Set on a rocky hill, right next to the sea, Salobrena is a jewel on the Costa Tropical. Due to it's historical importance, the holiday development has been strictly controlled to protect the agricultural plain and retain the town's Andalusian charm. Salobrena has all the facilities you need for a great holiday and there are plenty of restaurants, shops, supermarkets, banks, an open market, a tourist office and sports centre. There are local fiestas and events throughout the year. About Carol Driver

We live and work in England, but almost always holiday at the house in Spain. It is very much our second home.

Carol Driver purchased this house in 2005

Why Carol Driver chose Salobreña

We moved from a house in the mountains after falling in love with Salobrena. It is one of the few places where you can enjoy an unspoilt coastline away from mass tourism. The climate is perfect - warmer in winter and cooler than the mountains in summer. Plus you can enjoy views of the snow capped sierras while sitting in 20 + degrees.

What makes this house unique

We find the property convenient for shops, restaurants and the sea, while been out of the bustle of the lower town. Sometimes its hard to move from the roof terrace because the views and day long sunshine are just too alluring. When you are out and about there are plenty of country and seaside walks, along with a wide variety of restaurants and bars. Granada is also only 50 minutes away if you want a bigger cultural centre for the day.

Access is easy with motorway links from Malaga and Granada airports.

A charming property and a lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from an enjoyable fortnight in Salobreña and this perfectly situated town house in the friendly Barrio Juan XXIII was perfect for us. With a regular (half-hourly) bus service running into the centre of Salobreña, it was ideal for my elderly parents to enjoy the area as much as we did. It costs 1 euro each way and the bus stop is literally round the corner. For the fit and able, the walk into the modern town is only 5 minutes down (and 10 minutes back). The beach is around 10-15 mins walk. Salobreña is ideal if you have your own car, but there is a bus service to Granada, Malaga, Almuñecar and many other places from town. We enjoyed days out to Nerja, Granada, Alpujarras, Malaga (and Torremolinos), as well as leisurely days on the roof terrace or at the local beaches. Although my father stayed in, three of us took the walk down to La Caleta and walked back along the beach. There are plenty of supermarkets in Salobreña and we tried them all, from Dia (budget but good for day to day provisions), Mercadona (amazing fresh fish) & Supersol (fantatsic charcuterie). We also went to the local market for fruit & vegetables on Tuesday and Thursday. The great thing about Salobreña is that it feels like 'real Spain' - not really any shops selling tacky souvenirs or Flamenco shows for the tourists - it's very much a place where Spanish people live, spend their weekends or have a holiday home. We saw a few English families dotted around but not many. At night-time we relaxed on the middle terrace with a glass of wine and good food. We ate out a couple of times at Pesetas (just a short walk away in the Old Village) and we also enjoyed an open mic night of Spanish poetry on the old square (again, just a short walk). Give yourselves a couple of days to get your bearings and if you decide to drive, the roads aren't as bad they first seem! We managed to park our car outside without a problem for our entire stay.

Booking: Excellent communication from David from start to end. Very easy booking process and organised paperwork.

The house: Marti greeted us promptly on arrival and showed us everything and explain what we needed to know - I think she's American. We were staying for two weeks, so she provided us with ample towels and bed linen for the duration of our stay. Everything was very clean and tidy. The house is very comfortable, great terraces - as described and photographed - lovely views, rubbish collected daily - perfect!

Owner's Response: Glad the alternative accommodation was good. The council decided to dig up the street that week and the disruption was too great. Just a one in a million chance.

We spent a month at the townhouse in Salobrena and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • 5 of 5

The townhouse in Salobrena is located on the side of the steep hill that makes up much of this lovely Spanish town. This two bedroom house is very well equipped and would work well for one or two couples sharing the space. There are two bedrooms on separate floors and two bathrooms as well. On the middle floor there is a well equipped kitchen, with a clothes washing machine, and a small living and eating area. There are two terraces, one off the upstairs bedroom and another on the roof of the building and these provide wonderful views of the mountains of Sierra Nevada and the sea below. The town itself is charming and very un-touristy. Spanish is spoken everywhere and we rarely heard any English or other tourist languages although this probably changes in the busy months of summer. There are three major grocery stores as well as many other shops in the town. Salobrena is an easy drive to other places like Nerja, Malaga, Granada and Corduba. The owners Carol and Dave provide a lot of information for renters as well as a welcome package of a few supplies and the caretaker Marty is a big help to travellers who do not know the area. We stayed at the house for most of the month on March and the weather for the first two and a half weeks was cold and rainy. After that the weather warmed up and we were able to enjoy eating outside on the terraces. The house is equipped with heaters in all the rooms as well as air conditioning for hotter months. This is an excellent rental opportunity especially for travellers who wish to settle into one place while they explore the area.

Town house real Spain

  • 5 of 5

Lovely comfortable town house with every thing you need, three levels with great roof top terrace, all spotlessly clean.

Well located for all bars and restaurants with good local shops.

Nice welcome pack with Marti to greet us, and give information and advice.

Thanks to David for a lovely stay.

Real Spain

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable townhouse, with all mod cons, and retaining traditional Spanish character.

Spotlessly clean.

The roof and side terraces are wonderful places to sit and enjoy sunrise and sunset, with views over the town, towards the mountains and the coast.

Marti, the welcoming house manager, was on hand to ensure we had a full introduction to the house and Salobreña.

There is a welcome pack on arrival, a great gesture, and a substantial folder, with tips and tourist information.

David and Carol also provide relevant, timely, helpful information, from the time of booking the house, to arrival, and beyond.

The townhouse is ideally situated in the old town, with supermarkets, shops, bars, the Moorish castle and beach all within reach on foot ( albeit via steep steps ), or bus, with a bus stop situated nearby.

All in all, a fabulous week, and we would recommend this super property for a very enjoyable stay to anyone.

Thank you to David, Carol and Marti.

Lovely rental in the heart of old Salobrena with fabulous views and fab restaurants on the doorstep

  • 5 of 5

Set on the hillside our rental was right in the heart of everyday Spanish life. Clean and well looked after (and now with air con). Fabulous views from the rooftop terrace, great for bbqing and relaxing. Amazing restaurant (Bar Pesetas) 5 mins walk away that serves wonderful fish whilst offering an amazing view over the rooftops. The pebbly beach is 20 mins walk down the hill ( lots of steps so if you're not particulary fit then there's a 1/2 hourly bus that stops right outside the property that will take you to the beach/shops etc).

Further afield, if you prefer a small cove type of beach there's a pretty place, Playa de la Rijana, the far side of Motril. You need a car to get there and parking is just off the main road with a walk downhill to the beach. Canoes, paddleboards and a beach bar...fab.

Definately recommend staying here. The owners we so helpful leading up to the holiday and Marti who looks after the property was very welcoming and accommodating. Great for visits to Granada as only an hour away.

The large, clean beaches are just a 10 min walk away (20 mins back). Here there are many good seafood and specialist restaurants. You can take the little local mini-bus which passes the house every half hour to the beach or town. Pedaloes are available in the summer. Snorkeling is also a favourite with the locals and visitors alike. There are horse riding facilities 20 mins away.

Granada airport is 50 mins away. Malaga airport is 70 mins away. Almeria airport is 90 mins away. Granada has bus and train stations. Buses run from Granada to Salobrena daily.

The town centre is a 10 min walk (15 mins back). Almuneca is 20 mins by car and has diving and other water sports facilities. Motril, a large town, is a 10 mins drive. Granada, 50 mins drive, is good for clothes shopping and of course the Alhambra Palace and its many historical buildings. The Alpujarras, an area of outstanding rural beauty, are a 30 min drive. Here there are lots of interesting walks.

Further Details:

Excellent bars/restaurants just further up the old town, with wonderful views from their terraces. Further up is the old church and Moorish castle. Supermarkets, cash points and many shops in the main town. There are several good seafood restaurants and music bars,
