Nestled into the hill against which the village rests, this is an exquisite holiday home. The architecture of this historic house embodies the essence of Provence whilst offering modern, charming and comfortable amenities.

Each room opens to a beautiful covered stone terrace and sunken parterre garden. Picturesque views from the terrace and plunge pool extend to the limestone mountains framed by the beauty of an almond tree.

The private terrace, complete with a sumptuous outdoor lounge setting and dining area, is the perfect place to luxuriate in the peace and tranquility.

You are at home when you arrive to local wines, fresh bread, herbs and all the basics to start your Provencal larder.

The house is filled with books and comfortable furniture and is part of the holiday refuge of an extended family from the Antipodes.

It is an idyllic location from which to explore all that Provence has to offer.

The home is maintained in the absence of the owner, by a trusted local, of whom any sort of assistance may be asked.

Perfect Provence

My wife and I spent a week at Vieille Amie in June 2015 and the whole experience could not have been better. The photos on the website did not really do the house justice and we were both delighted with the house, the views and the amazing terrace - where we spent most of the week!!

Maria greeted us on arrival and made us feel very welcome. We really appreciated that she had equipped the kitchen with bread, milk, wine and fresh lemons and basil. That was a wonderful, welcoming touch. The house is well equipped, beautifully appointed, very comfortable and having all rooms opening onto the fabulous terrace is a real bonus. The setting is very quiet and the views of the Dentelles spectacular, especially as the sun sets in the evening. It really was the perfect holiday bolthole for the two of us.

In all, we were so impressed that we are already plotting a return visit for next year and would thoroughly recommend Vieille Amie.

A Little Slice of Heaven

My friend and I stayed at this beautiful property in May 2014 for 2 weeks. Such a lovely location and from the moment we arrived we truly felt at home. From the eggs, milk, cheese and wine in the fridge to the fresh roses on the table well we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. The house was immaculate and had everything we could wish for - comfortable beds, 2 great sofas to kick back on to watch TV, a fabulous outdoor dining area (we spent a lot of time sitting outside) and above all it was lovely and peaceful. We hired a car which we used to pick up supplies in nearby towns, however we love to walk and would often walk to the nearest village for a coffee (approx 4.5kms one way). Maria the owner was an absolute delight to deal with and any queries we had were always answered promptly (we were lucky to get to meet Maria the day we were leaving and I have to say she's one of the loveliest, most positive people I've ever met). Yves the caretaker was never far away if we needed anything and was also a delight to deal with. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting a cosy little haven to retreat to after exploring the beautiful surrounds during the day. I will definitely be back. Tracie

Where to start! Thank you Maria for a fabulously relaxing week at Vieille Amie.

Maria could not have been any more welcoming and made us feel at home straight away. The Champagne, wonderful bottle of red and the rosé were all very much appreciated (as were the fresh loaf of bread and basic supplies that helped us enjoy our first night).

The property has clearly been a labour of love. It was spotlessly clean and the layout is fabulous with doors from the lounge and 2 of the bedrooms leading straight out on to the beautiful terrace.

It was extremely well equipped and even had a Nespresso coffee machine similar to mine (heaven!) and the all important Ipod docking station - I couldn't ask for more!

This is easily the best house we have stayed in during our many holidays in France and the view of the surrounding hills are to die for - watching the sun set over the hills was glorious. I am sure that there are many local attractions but we actually only managed to get out a couple of times - once to a market and also to visit the village of La Barroux just over the hill - the house was simply too nice not to be there.

The pool is small but was quite adequate for the 4 of us and my youngest spent much of her time in it!

I would also like to note that I had a problem after I had left because I stupidly lost an item of electrical equipment when I was packing to leave. Maria was most helpful, spending time looking for the item both inside and outside the house, after we had left, in an effort to locate it - thank you Maria it was a pleasure meeting you.

I would highly recommend this property.

Absolute perfection!

Myself and my family can not say enough about this property and the lovely lady who owns it. She was always available if needed [which was not often] but definately respected our privacy. Photos do not do justice to the home. It is decorated tastefully and comfortabley. Everything has been provided. The scent of fresh potted basil greeted us upon our arrival. The terrace is fabulous, providing complete privacy and wonderful view. With it the refreshing pool which is so nice after a long day of sightseeing. The town is intimate, offering nice paths to stroll in the evening, There is also a very nice restaurant with tables set under trees with twinkling lights. I thought that the town would be far from Avignon and the many other towns of provence but in reality it is very convenient with most of our sightseeing from 20 min to an hour away. There is a little larger town very near by that is also very pretty and has a nice grocery store. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer!

Title is appropriate

An ideal place for a relaxed holiday! The house, built on traditional lines in a historic village, is spacious, stylish, and thoughtfully furnished and equipped. A wide terrace overlooking the splendid view invites one to while away lazy days beside the pool... and there's a library with all the books you've ever wanted to read! But there's also lots to see and do in the area - walking, cycling, motoring to scenic and historic places; the owner has provided a good range of local maps and guides. We enjoyed some excellent restaurants and visited superb vineyards and wineries. Roads are good, distances not great, but you do need a car.

Provencal Indulgence

Set in a tiny French rural village amongst the astoundingly beautiful countryside, this was a wonderful retreat. We were able to indulge ourselves in all the time-honoured magic of surrounding Provence and then, at the end of the day, return to all the conveniences of a well-maintained modern home; or we could laze the Provencal day away on the sun-drenched terrace with occasional dips in the pool.

When the mood took us for travelling further afield, we found the location usefully central for (3 hr) trips up to Burgundy and down into Italy.

The Village lies in the Department of Vaucluse, in that part known as Le Haut Vaucluse-Provence des Papes (due to its proximity to Avignon and Chateauneuf du Pape – seats of the papacy in the 14th century). It sits in the pre-Alpes, close to the Giant of Provence, Mont Ventoux, the 1912 metre highest free standing mountain in France.

The village looks onto the famous lace like Limestone Mountains, the Dentelles de Montmirail, which act as the meeting point between the Alpes and the plain of the mighty Rhone river.

The hills around La Roque Alric are covered with wild rosemary, lavender and thyme, oak trees at whose feet truffles and mushrooms are found, and the crops of the local farmers; olive trees, fruit trees and grapevines.

For the outdoor lover, there is cycling, horse riding, walking and hiking the many dedicated paths, swimming (nearest lap pool at Beaumes de Venise), tennis (also at Beaumes de Venise), golf (Avignon, L’isle sur La Sorgue).
