We’ve just spent a thoroughly enjoyable 10 days at Villa Kyparissi. The owners, Lida and Peter, greeted us on arrival and had helpfully left some basic provisions, including sufficient for our first breakfast. The villa is quite compact but suited us fine as a couple. The villa was spotlessly clean, and there were towel and bed linen changes plus a general clean twice during our stay. The two shower rooms were smart and quite spacious. There's plenty of space for sunbathing or simply relaxing, and the pool is a good size. The front terrace has a wonderful hillside view. The villa is fairly private although it is a little overlooked by the upstairs windows of the sister Villa Lyra. WiFi is available but it’s on the slow side. We didn’t find the satellite TV of much interest as the only English-speaking channel was BBC World. A DVD player is provided but there were no disks to watch. The local family-run taverna, Maklithari, was reasonable and friendly – their Greek deserves to be legendary – but those in Agia Efimia offer more choice and a sea view. Sea Rocks was outstanding, with a refreshing contemporary slant on Greek cuisine. We also enjoyed the food at Mnistires in the Odyssey Hotel, which similarly offers modern Greek food with impeccable presentation and service. Further afield, Assos is worth visiting if you can dodge the crowds, and there’s an uphill trek to the castle for those feeling in need of exercise. Fiskardo seemed rather spoilt by rampant tourism, with restaurant after restaurant in the overcrowded centre. Sami was good for boat watching and faint glimpses of the town as it used to be in Captain Corelli’s era.
Had a lovely time in Kefalonia made extra special by staying at this wonderful villa. The owners have thought of everything and we can’t fault it. The view from the veranda while having breakfast was just beautiful. Highly recommend this villa!
Idyllic and beautifully appointed villa
All I can say is “wow!” Nothing prepared us for this island’s beauty and the colours of the aquamarine sea! The drive to the villa from the airport was so scenic and after a delayed flight and little sleep what an absolute joy and relief it was to arrive and find it as stunning as the photos depict on this website! The owners, Luda and Peter greeted us warmly and empathetically on arrival. They had kindly bought enough basic provisions to keep us from having to jump straight back in the car again. They gave us excellent advice about the locality and had put together a book of the best beaches in Kefalonia which proved to be a v useful reference . The villa itself is well appointed with incredible views, well equipped and spotless too. The pool is generous in size and this is beautifully cleaned and maintained as are the surrounding gardens and patios.
Location wise I think we hit the jackpot staying here as we believe it is the most picturesque part of Kefalona and we travelled a lot over 10 days visiting Assos, Myrtos Beach, Fiskardo , Sami and nearby Melissani cave,, Skala, Agias Geranimus Monastery, and numerous outlying beaches All very accessible and the routes beautiful (if a little hair raising on occasion).
We packed in a lot over 10!days and allowed a couple of days to flop at the villa and enjoy the pool and tranquility but you could just as easily do this and no more if you enjoy R and R it’s the perfect spot! The nearest town is beautiful with a superb butchers, bakery,, supermarkets restaurants, bars, boutiques and picturesque harbour. It’s quite buzzy in the evenings and there are regular cruises which run from here to Ithaca and other neighbouring islands which we all enjoyed and would recommend.
We are a family of five with two teenagers and a six year old which normally presents challenges in pleasing everyone but not in Kefalonia. We all had such a wonderful holiday,.
Fantastic villa in great location
This is undoubtedly the best villa we have stayed in . The owners have furnished it to a very high standard and it is very well equipped. Lida answered all my questions very promptly prior to booking and was there upon our arrival. The villa is in a great location with stunning views . It was an excellent base for us to explore much of the island. The beaches were amazing with crystal clear waters and Lida had very helpfully produced a detailed beach guide. Thank you very much for a fantastic week . We will definitely be back !
Beautiful house, very well equipped, great location and amazing views
The house is perfect, nicely decorated, kitchen that is extremely well equipped, lovely bathrooms and great landscaping wit great patio and pool furniture. It also comes with 2 barbecues (1 has, 1 electric) and the hosts are attentive while being discreet. All round wonderful experience and we would definitely go back!
The closest beaches are within 5 min drive from Villa Kyparissi: you can go either to the famous Myrtos Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches of the Island of Kefalonia or to one of the numerous little beaches surrounding Agia Efimia with clear crystal waters, ideal for snorkelling. Or, you can rent a motorboat in Agia Efimia for a day and visit the idyllic bays accessible only by boat. A trully unique experience!
The simplest way to come to Kefalonia is by a direct flight to the Airport of Argostoli (= EFL), approx. 1 hour drive from the Villa. If there is no direct flight from your country to Kefalonia, you can take a flight to Athens and continue your journey either by connected flight or by rental car and ferry to Kefalonia. Should you need assistance by planning your travelling to our Island, please contact us. We will be glad to assist you. A car rental is during your stay at the Villa recommended.
5 min walk to the square of Makriotika with the well known tavern "Maklithari" (popular for its good Kefalonian food and the warm hospitality of the innkeeper), a café with delicious traditional sweets a mini market & bus station to Agia Efimia & Myrtos beach.
5 min drive to the picturesque port of Agia Efimia with several small flint bays ideal for snorkelling, super-markets, bakery, cafés, taverns, pharmacy, cash station, car, motorbike and motorboat rental, diving school, ferry to Ithaca.
The village of Makriotika is situated 5km (=5 min drive) from the picturesque port of Agia Efimia, framed by high mountains, on a height of more than 200m. The Kefalonians call it "The balcony of Pylaros", as it offers indeed a fascinating view across the wide valley of Pylaros: the port of Agia Efimia, the blue Ionian sea, the surrounding high mountains and the small traditional villages. Across the water, you can see the neighbour Island Ithaca and on some days you can even make out the mountains of Peloponnes.
Makriotika is located in the centre of Kefalonia, thus it is an ideal base for exploring the Island. Here you can taste the flavour of the authentic Greek life. A nice "Platia" (village square), small red-roofed houses with flower-filled terraces, a traditional café, a friendly tavern, a mini-market, a school and, as in each Greek village, a church. In the summer, the Platia is filled with playing children, native and emigrant Kefalonians and tourists. There are numerous beaches closed to the villa offering opportunities for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving in the summer.
The location is also ideal for nature lovers and hikers:
You can walk for example to Agia Efimia. You will pass through an old traditional village, above the valley of Pylaros and facing Agia Efimia and the sea. Or you can leave the main road and take one of the several paths going through the valley to Agia Efimia. You can also walk to the beautiful monastery of Themata (approx. 4 km) which offers spectacular views. A path from the monastery leads to the top of the wild mountain of Agia Dynati and its new aeolic power park, capable to cover big part of the island' s power needs. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to visit the Bavarian Horse Riding Stables in Sami (approx. 18 km from the villa) and take part in a horse ride: a completely different way of exploring Kefalonia, by following old donkey trails with wonderful views through olive groves and fruit orchards.
- English, German, Greek
My husband Peter and I live during the winter time in Germany. We love to return to Kefalonia and spend our summer time here in Makriotika, this picturesque little village with unique authentic Greek atmosphere and warm hospitality of the people. We have travelled a lot around the world and our dream has been to return sometime here to this beautiful place and create a Kefalonian holiday accommodation to remember. The project has been designed personally by us with careful consideration of all possible needs of our guests. Though, our aim has been to nest the property harmoniously in its unique wild-romantic environment without changing this. Since then, we concentrate our efforts on improving and enhancing the accommodation over time. Peter is a keen gardener, so he created a magnificent garden surrounding the villa with colourful Mediterranean flowers and local sweet herbs. A magical place to relax! Quite simply, "Our priority,...is Your enjoyment... ! " We invite you to to share with us the Kefalonian experience.
