Big Apple Retreat, your home away from home
Hi my name is Peter and I grew up in New York City. I work as a consultant and rent my place out from time to time to offer people a comfortable and private place to stay while visiting New York.
Owner/Manager purchased this Apartment in 2002
Why Owner/Manager chose Maspeth
This corner property is located in a safe and quiet neighborhood right on the out skirts of Manhattan. It is also accessible to downtown Brooklyn and is very convenient to public transportation and stores.
What makes this Apartment unique
The apartment offers a private and quiet place for you to stay after getting back from your daily activities. It has a 12x12 patio in the back of the unit for entertaining, and offers private parking for your car.

Great place to stay and great host.
This apartment was perfect for our family of five. We were looking for something more spacious than a typical hotel with 2 beds and this worked out great. The location was in a neighborhood in Brooklyn/Maspeth and we always felt safe at any time of day or night. It was about a 15 minute walk from the apartment to the M Line subway for our daily ride into Manhattan for sightseeing and we even got home after midnight a couple of times but still felt safe enough to walk back to the apartment. There are bus stops even closer (1 - 2 minutes) if you don't want to walk to the subway line. The apartment had everything we needed and plenty of space to not feel crowded. The only exception was sharing a single bathroom with 5 people but we managed. Peter was a great host. We communicated mostly be text and he took care of everything we needed and left us alone the rest of the time to enjoy our trip. We would definitely recommend this place to others.
Great experience in Queens
Beautiful apartment in a nice family friendly neighborhood.
Functional clean apartment that worked well
Apartment is 2nd floor - 1 unit above & 1 below; stairs narrow, fairly steep, but manageable. Is as pictured in listing. Very clean. House on corner in congested, but fairly quiet, residential neighborhood, one block from major busy street with small stores, fast food, services, etc. Parking for 1 car behind house was arranged by owner - very helpful. Owner made contact ahead; arranged entry on arrival, then came by to explain functions, arrangements. Helpful; made it easy. Bedrooms small but functional. Bathroom modern and same. Kitchen basic but has everything appropriate. Did not actually cook - but got good take-out & delivery from local places. Unit worked very well as a base of operations and place to sleep for our purposes of doing family business in near-by part of Brooklyn. Not the Ritz, but clean functional accommodations that worked well for our family. Would recommend.
Great place to stay, owner has a very good customer service , place is very clean nice not far from attractions hopefully I’ll be back gain recommend this place
As soon as we got there it was obvious that the apartment was not the same one as advertised on VRBO. We had rented a three bedroom and what we got was a two bedroom. The owner told us that VRBO had made an error. Of course, there’s no way for me to tell if there was an error or if this was deliberate. He immediately offered to refund our money. So, upon arrival our options were to get a refund or take the smaller apartment. After driving 1,100 miles we were in no position to start looking for another place for THAT NIGHT!
He did gives us a refund of $30 per night which hardly makes up for the extra bedroom. We really didn’t have any options and we were forced to accept the smaller accommodations.
The accommodations were adequate with two major drawbacks. We rented in the middle of August. Before renting, we inquired about air conditioning and were told the unit was air conditioned. What we found were two very small window units in each of the bedrooms. There was no AC for the living room or kitchen. If you cranked the air up, the bedrooms got very cold and the living room was comfortable. The kitchen never got cool. On top of that, the owner requested that the units be turned off when we weren’t there so we were always walking into a hot apartment whenever we returned.
The other problem was that the apartment was on the ground level of a very old house. EVERY footstep in the apartment above could be clearly heard. There is obviously no insulation between the floors. You can hear voices, laughing and TV noise all day and night. Not a pleasant situation.
The reviews we relied on were good but, of course, the reviews were for the three bedroom apartment which we never saw. Buyer beware.
Very cozy and close to anything you might need
Enjoy the neighborhood the apartment perfect location
