About Rachel
Hello, my name is Rachel and along with my husband, David, we own the two properties we have on Owners Direct. We are a family of 4 and although British, we are now based in Singapore. Over the years, we stayed in many different holiday homes in many different countries and for our properties, we wanted to provide something that really worked - both for us and our visitors. We believed we've created two homes from home and have had many compliments on both places. If you choose to stay in one, we hope you will very much enjoy your stay - we always enjoy visiting either house ourselves.
Why Rachel chose Alcalalí
We bought Casa Mariposa early in 2005. Despite visiting other areas of Spain we always found ourselves drawn back to the valley and after a whole year of searching, we finally found what we were looking for. We love the location - quiet and private yet not isolated and, of course, our wonderful views across the valley. I can't imagine how many hours we've spent on the naya just watching the light change as the sun moves round! We love the late afternoon and evening when the low light creates the most magical glow on the many white painted farmhouses and the villages below us. Furnishing the house from a range of local shops, was a real pleasure. I wanted to provide comfort and simplicity but with a homely feel too. and believe that has been achieved.
What makes this Villa unique
The valley has everything we want to make a great family holiday. There's plenty in the region to keep us all entertained. Then afterwards, nothing beats returning to the peace and tranquility of the the villa and dinner on the naya or maybe a local restaurant. Then, of course, there are the hours we've spent lazing in the pool on a hot summer afternoon. Having children of our own, we have installed gates around the pool terrace to give parents of young children peace of mind so youngsters can play away from the pool. We've equipped it with everything you should need and are often complimented on this. In Casa Mariposa, we really feel we've found somewhere special - it's always hard to leave and we have many returning guests who have fallen in love with it too.

Nice place, good location but could use some TLC
Nice stay, location lovey and peaceful but the place could use a little maintenance (flaking paint, broken tiles etc.) but nothing too major. Overall pleasant stay.
Relaxing week in Jalon valley
Communication with owner was prompt and efficient. Property had everything you needed. Great views across the valley. Relaxing stay.
Best Villa yet in Alcalali
Villa Mariposa was perfect for our family of five. Everything we needed was there including one of the best views possible in the Jalon Valley. Sitting in the Naya with my morning coffee before the kids woke up, looking across to the Col de Rates was the perfect start to every day. Beautiful, well looked after property in a great little village with restaurants and bars to choose from. Hopefully we'll be returning next year...
Thanks for the lovely review Mark and I couldn't agree more about the naya, it really is the perfect place for that morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.
You are most welcome to visit again.

Lovely villa and location
We would highly recommend this villa. Pool is plenty big enough for at least 6, nice rooms, although slightly odd layout, and the view are fabulous. It has a lovely outside area to eat and drink, which is also nicely sheltered. Brisk 15 minute walk to a typically Spanish town, which has 3 or 4 nice places to eat. Rachel and Angie were very accommodating.
Rest & Relaxation
We had an amazing week at this beautiful villa. So peaceful and relaxing with stunning views across the valley.
The perfect base to explore the area. We can recommend a visit to the Fonts del Aguar waterfalls; if you go at around 4pm, you'll miss the crowds, we found the best placed car park to use was at the very top of the hill - just keep driving up through the village and it's on the left. We also found a lovely small pebble beach at Altea called Playa O'lla with loads of free parking at the back of the Hotel Gadea. It was not too busy with a lovely beach bar, plenty of shaded sunloungers to hire and also pedalo's, paddleboards & canoes if you want to go and explore the island just off shore. If you're visiting Javea, we can recommend a delightful little restaurant called Attico with great views across Javea Bay, situated at the top of the Hotel Javea, it has a great daily set menu, well worth a visit.
All in all we had a great family holiday and it was so wonderful coming back to the peace and tranquillity of this lovely villa to rest and recharge our batteries.
Excellent villa with great views
Thoroughly recommend this villa, great location and had everything you could need.
