Lovely house in great location
Have rented here for many years. Beautiful, well equipped, large house in great location for restaurants, beaches Spain etc.
Heated pool a real bonus in late autumn. The current agents keep the place spotless and are extremely helpful and leave a good welcome pack. One slight criticism... maybe the towels and bedding are getting a bit tired. The family are already looking forward to next year if the house is still available.
Thank you for your review. Noted about the towels and bedding, new ones will be purchased over the winter, ready for the new season.
Staying in Monte Francisco
Nice big property, which is what my group of 12 people needed. Fab house (no. 3) although pool smaller than the one next door (no. 2), which we had stayed in previously. We had ‘pool envy’!
Great location for trips to Spajn, and nice restaurant in both Monte Francisco and nearby town, Castro Marim and Vila Real do Santo Antonio.
Fab breaches along the coast line also. Car hire definitely recommended, although there is a good taxi service, too, if you need it.
Thank you for your review, much appreciated.
coughtrey 26 june - 3 july
very impressive property, lovely 5 double bedrooms in the house, great pool area with lots of sunbeds and cushions. The annexe was disappointing, the smell from the drains in the ensuite was unbearable. The games room was a huge bonus to keep children out of the midday sun. Unfortunately two things let the property down
a) the outdoor eating area was round tables, square ones etc very inconvenient to eat as a group
b) the standard and quantity of cutlery, utensils was poor and did not allow 13 people to eat together.
Overall an 8/10 week.
I take this opportunity to ask for our deposit to be refunded.
Thank you for your review, much appreciated. Your comments have been noted, and steps to improve the villa have been taken.
THE PROPERTY OVERALL WAS IN A POOR STATE OF REPAIR AND IN SOME RESPECTS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE
I HAVE SENT THIS E MAIL TO THE OWNER WHO SO FAR HAS NOT RESPONDED:-
I have now returned from Monte Francisco having enjoyed our holiday but I am sorry to say it was a holiday which would have been more enjoyable had we not experienced the numerous defects and problems of the Villa. I list below these defects and issues.
Curtain rails not secured to the walls and hanging loose
Curtains not fitting
Shower in the upstairs bathroom not fixed to wall
Shower downstairs inadequate, small and dirty with shower head fixing needing repair
Numerous light bulbs blown
Light fitting to the kitchen needing total overall
IN THE ANNEXE
Numerous light bulbs blown
No electricity socket for the bedside light in the bedroom
Shower screen needing repair
Water boiler making very loud noises(explosions almost)
Sink wastes system leaking and causing strong smell of sewage
Toilet and cistern rocking and insecure
Pool ph value wrong causing irritation to eyes and skin rashes
The sink waste pipes, the light fitting in the kitchen, the replacement of bulbs, the annexe shower screen, the boiler noises and the pool PH values were all eventually corrected by Purple Parrot but I had to make all the phone calls and alter our arrangements over numerous days to be in attendance for these repairs to proceed.
I regret to say the overall standard of the Villa falls well short of our expectations and left us very disappointed particularly with the standard of the Annexe. Indeed had we not bought three air fresheners and had the sink waste repaired the Annexe would be uninhabitable.
I write to you not in anger but to convey my disappointment with the villa. Our holiday was enjoyable but would have been more so had the Villa been up to standard. In view of our experiences I look to you to make a substantial refund in addition to the breakages deposit.
In this period there was an exodus of the manager and several staff at the same time from the management company. The situation has been dealt with and the villa is now back to its previous standard reflected in the reviews by other guests .
Lovely luxury villa with games room
Spent a lovely family holiday here two weeks ago. Our ages ranged from 3 to 64 years. There was plenty of space for us all and the house is very well equipped. The games room offered table tennis, pool and table football and a large fridge freezer which kept our beer nice and cool. The swimming pool proved very popular and we opted for the heated option even though the weather was very warm. This made all the difference for the younger children (and myself). The shady terrace at the front of the villa provided a lovely place to sit at all times of the day. Watch out for the lawn sprinklers early morning or late evening!
The location of the villa is very convenient for the main road between Spain and Portugal. We had no trouble getting there from Faro airport and travelled into Spain several times. The village itself has a small shop, two bars and a Snack bar which has a large restaurant room at the back serving excellent food. I can recommend the fried prawn starter and fish dishes. There are a number of supermarkets and beaches within 15 minutes drive. Praia Verde beach is beautiful and also the town of Monte Gordo which has a lovely beach, great bars and restaurants and amusements which open late evening. Kids and young adults can recommend the "Fun House" there.
This was my first time in Portugal and I thoroughly enjoyed staying in this lovely villa.
I am very pleased you enjoyed your holiday and that the villa was a good contributor to it .
Nice Villa in good location.
With myself and wife plus my two children's families this villa fitted our needs admirably being very comfortable and roomy. Initially we were not sure about the size of the pool but it turned out very well, the children living in it when we were there. Castro Marim is a nice town and we were lucky they had their Medieval Market and Castle experience whilst we were there which was a real bonus. As I said the location is very good in that we were able to visit Seville one day, (Hours drive), a water park another(45 minutes away), and several beaches nearby.
Thank you for your review, much appreciated.
Special interest holidays:
On the outskirts of Vila Real de Santo Antonio (approx 5 minutes drive) there is a municiple Sports Complex which is one of the most highly regarded centres in Europe. The complex is a high performance training centre and it is recognised by the Portuguese Olympic Committee as an Official Training Centre. Aside from athletics it is also a tennis club.
This part of Algarve coast enjoys long sandy beaches. Between Tavira (30km West) and Monte Gordo (6km S/E) there are 5 blue flag beaches. The fantastic soft sandy beach of Praia Verde is less than 10 mins drive from the Villa. Car parking, beachside restaurants and bars all present. Villa Real, less than 10 minutes away has a wonderful marina.
Just over the border, (Ayamonte is 10 minutes drive) are the beautiful unspoilt beaches of Isla Canela.
Car hire is recommended, although there are taxis available from village/locally. Faro Airport is 40 mins drive, Seville Airport 80 mins drive. Airport pickup is available if required. There is also a rail service from Faro to Villa Real, costing less than 5 Euro per person. Taxi from Villa Real station to the villa is approx 8 euro.
5 minute walk into local village. 5 minute drive to the ancient town and castle of Castro Marim. 5 minute drive (can be walked) to the new clubhouse at Castro Marim golf course which has a fine restaurant. 10 minute drive to the marina town of Villa Real. 10 minute drive to Monte Gordo. 10 minute drive to Ayamonte, Spain. 20 minute drive to Tavira. 40 minute drive to Faro.
There are 4 Water Parks and 2 Theme Parks along the Algarve all within 1 hours drive, Zoomarine and Villamoura water parks approx 45 mins. The villa itself is close to a huge nature reserve which has designated nature trails and bird watching facilities. There are lots of locations offering organised activities, such as horse riding or 4X4 'Safaris', within easy driving distance. For those of you who enjoy a night out on the town the nearby Monte Gordo and Ayamonte (Spain) offers lots of bars, restaurants and clubs as well as featuring a great casino complete with nightly live shows for a really great night out. Tavira, about a 20 min drive, is really worth a visit.
The old passenger ferry between Vila Real and Ayamonte, (approx 2 Euro) is worth a trip, it lands within a two minute walk away from Ayamonte's central square with all its surounding cafe/bars and shops. There are also river trips from Vila Real up the Guadiana to Alcoutim.
There are mini-marts (corner shop style) in the village as well as several bars/cafes/restaurants, mostly less than 5 mins walk away. For proper supermarkets, Banks etc Castro Marim and Villa Real are a short drive away. Directions in the villa to the best local supermarkets will be supplied.
There is free internet access available at Castro Marim (in a small square opposite Caixa Geral De Depositos bank) and Vila Real (behind block furthest away from marina in square) in council operated internet shops. There is also an internet cafe at Monte Gordo, its one of the first shops you come to on the beach front when travelling from Vila Real. But if you have a laptop which has Wi Fi, it will work anywhere in the square at Vila Real. It costs 5 euros for 1 hour, but they only accept Visa credit cards.
