This villa offers the rare and sought after combination of a large, elegant villa with stunning river views and garden with pool yet within easy ealking distance of a beautiful historic spa town in northern Tuscany, with bars and restaurants just 5 minutes away on foot.

Strong, free wi-fi throughout the villa.

Easy access to public transport mean that it's possible to leave the car behind and make day trips by bus or train.

Guests can choose to rent either the top floor (4 large bedrooms, all with ensuite shower room) or the whole villa (6 bedrooms, 5 bath/shower rooms plus seperate toilet). With either option you will be the only guests staying at the villa and will have sole use of the loggia, garden, terraces and splash pool.

The views are breathtaking, looking down on the river below. The loggia with its three terracotta arches is the perfect spot to relaxi with friends and family and a glass of Tuscan wine.

The splash pool is ideal to cool off in on a hot summers day and the terraced gardens provide for relaxing under the Tuscan sun or dining al fresco with is a traditional chimney barbecue.

The Villa is on two floors. The top floor has 4 large double bedrooms all with ensuite shower room, kitchen, lounge area with open fire place, another living/dining room, plus of course the loggia with its terracotta arches, stunning views and further seating. For those choosing the 6 bedroom option this includes also the first floor with a larger kitchen/dining room, 2 double bedrooms, one bathroom (with bath) and seperate toilet.

Bedrooms are made up with high quality white cotton bedlinen and towels. Pool towels are provided.

As many of the bedrooms are large it is possible to make rooms up with extra beds or to make some rooms with twin single beds instead of double beds. We aim to be flexible and we will try to arrange the rooms to suit your groups needs. Please contact us to discuss your ideal sleeping arrangements.

The villa is very well equipped with everything you need for your holiday: guidebooks, maps and local information, plenty of novels, DVDs and CDs (mostly English language) to choose from, board games and a wii video games console with a good selection of games.

A welcome basket is provided with local specialities, Tuscan wines, and some basics to ensure a stress free start to your holiday.

The villa is reached by a series of steps and is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

The accommodation is an historic Tuscan villa making it ideal for larger families or groups of friends.

About Rod and Caroline Swail

We are originally from Great Britain where we worked in hotels and teaching.

Rod and Caroline Swail purchased this villa in 2006

Why Rod and Caroline Swail chose Media Valle del Serchio

The view! Looking down onto the river and the old stone bridge, with the surrounding hills is an amazing view . It's a view we never tire of as it's always changing; every day the water level, movement and light is different, but always beautiful. The town of Bagni di Lucca is a charming place, beautiful scenery and a lovely, easy and relaxing atmosphere. It's a great place to unwind.

What makes this villa unique

Whilst other properties had views, or were large, we knew this particular combination was fairly unique: a large villa with an amazing view yet within easy walking distance of bars and restaurants. When we are on holiday we don't want to always have to drive home after a meal, a leisurely stroll along the river is far nicer! It was unusual to find somewhere so close to town yet with a superb view and outside space. We knew this villa was special, a magical combination, and we love to share this with our guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A fantastic stay in a charming town in a wonderful house full of charm and good atmosphere. Hospitable and helpful hosts who did everything so that we might feel comfortable and have a good time. It was with sadness we have to leave, but we are looking forward to come back. And we would definitely recommend Villa Toscany Rosalena to everyone. We were a family of ten people, from 2 years and up to 60 +, and the place was great for all of us. Several different common areas we could use both indoors and outdoors. Toys and games for the little kids, and we adults had fun in the pool even if it was not very large. The kitchen was well equipped and gave us the opportunity to create superb dinner dishes. The barbeque space was a cool oasis with trees that umbrella by day and fireflies danced around in the evening which made the atmosphere magical.

The rooms were large and cool, spacious and with enchanting views. Newly renovated in every room.

A beautiful property with loads of character and charm.

  • 5 of 5

This was a super place to stay. With sun deck, plunge pool and beautiful loggia, all overlooking the delightful river, it was difficult to drag ourselves away. But the charming villages and the proximity to Lucca and Pisa made day trips well worth it.

There is a great BBQ area if you weren't in the mood for eating out, but also many quality restaurants and trattorias.

Our hosts made our trip even better providing useful local knowledge and information. Rod was on hand for any questions or emergencies(we broke a shelf!) but we never felt that he was intruding.

We cannot recommend this villa highly enough.

Lovely views, overlooking beautiful villas, interesting buildings and the river Valley.

  • 5 of 5

Rod met us as we arrived late and made sure we got installed safely and easily. The wine and food set out for our welcome was really appreciated and a nice touch.

Villa Rosalena is spacious and clean and has many interesting features. All the mod cons, and every bedroom an ensuite. It was very cosy and we'll miss waking to the beautiful vistas. Really good spot to explore this part of Tuscany. Make sure you take time to walk in both directions from the villa because there's lots of places nearby worth a look.

Everything it said it was!

  • 5 of 5

Have to say, it was everything it said it was. Communication with the owner very good prior to our arrival, meet us when we arrived, offered suggestions on where to go etc, do ask him as having lived there for 10 years he should know! Clean and tidy when we arrived, had the whole run of the property, all 4 beds made up for a party of 4, we could have had a room each! The view is to die for. In the older part of Bagni and a car is needed to get to the supermarket is it is in the newer part and that is a good walk. Local bar and restaurants just up the road. Whilst there we visited Lucca, Florence (by train from Lucca, 15 Euros return, although you could drive to Prato) and Pisa. So much to see in Florence you need more than a day. In fact you need more than a week for the same reason. I'd happily recommend it. Also offers B&B.

Brilliant, helpful owner and lovely, clean villa

  • 5 of 5

Listing description is spot on. This villa and everything in it is spotless with plenty of room to spare for us 9 ladies. Beautiful views, quiet and relaxing area with bars/restaurants with very good food with 5 minutes walk. Rod, the owner is so welcoming and helpful. Couldn't have asked for more, nothing too much trouble. Definitely would recommend this property.

The best place to be.........

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family stayed here in June and we had the whole place to ourselves. Very large house well fittted out including a dishwasher 2 fridges and a great Barbeque. We took the owner Rod's advice and did the local walk over the top of the hill behind the property. It was such a lovely route and showed lots of places that we had not guessed were there. All the local restaurants were very special and not expensive. We went to Lucca and Florence but always couldn't wait to get back to the arched loggia to watch the lights come on in the town and to gaze at the river. We will definitely be back.

Bagni di Lucca is a historic spa town in northern Tuscany. It is the ideal destination for those who want to enjoy a relaxing holiday amidst stunning hill and mountain scenery.

This small, tranquil Tuscan town on the banks of the River Lima has all the restaurants, bars, supermarkets and other facilities for an easy vacation along with superb open air public swimming pools and the thermal spa. In the past its thermal waters, mild climate and beautiful setting attracted a C.18th and C.19th 'who's who' of poets and princesses whose legacy has left the town with many elegant villas and a genteel atmosphere.

Bagni di Lucca makes an ideal base for walking holidays with so much stunning scenery all around and the countryside is dotted with medieval hill villages unchanged for centuries.

It is ideally placed for day trips throughout northern Tuscany. By car or public transport. the charming walled city of Lucca is 25 minutes away and Pisa airport only an hour. The Versilia coast is easily reached as is Florence. By car the cinque Terre and Siena can also be visited as day trips.
