About this property

Enchanting cliff top house

Casa del Tajo - 'The House on the Cliff' occupies a unique position, overlooking the spectacular mountain scenery of Andalucia. It is close to the village swimming pool (July/Aug) and only a short walk from the centre of the picturesque mountain village of Comares, which stands 700m above sea level .With breathtaking views from the house you can survey the mules and goats being taken down the steep track that winds below the cliff. Look out for kestrels, that nest on the rock beneath you. Comares, with narrow, cobbled streets,is steeped in history and can be traced back to the 3rd Century BC. Today there are bars, restaurants, a bank & a small supermarket. The pace of life is slow and in keeping with the past. The house consists of 5 bedrooms,4 doubles and 1single.
(The bedroom in the dome is self contained with its own kitchenette, living room and shower room with a double bed settee in the living room) 3 bathrooms ,one with bath, two with shower cubicles ,kitchen / diner ,living room /diner. The house is on several different levels with fairly steep stairs inside and steps outside, not really suitable for very small children but fine for slightly older ones. It is about 50 minutes from the beach by car.

Amazing, unique property but need a car
We had a really amazing stay at the villa. It is certainly unique and quirky! The roads up to the villa are a bit twisty but in good condition so there is nothing to worry about from that perspective. You definitely need a car to enjoy the area, but Comares itself has everything that you may need for a stay if you aren't able to get out and about too much. The property itself has plenty of room in distinctly separate areas which is a good thing in a larger group and it had everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay. It was very clean and there was always somewhere to sit in the shade within the gardens. The views are obviously spectacular across the countryside and up into Comares, there is even interest in the climbers underneath your feet! We had mountain goats trotting through the gardens too, which was certainly an experience! The top "apartment" into the domed ceiling is airconditioned, but the rest of the house does not have air conditioning and, on occasion, although there were fans provided, on the hottest days it was quite warm inside the villa. However, very often there was a mountain breeze that swept across the villa which was extremely welcome most afternoons! Kate and Tim were very helpful and welcoming, they are lucky to have such a lovely property in such a nice area with commanding views across Spain. Comares itself has a swimming pool close by which we all enjoyed for very little expenditure: 1 euro for kids 2 euros for us adults. As expected, this house is in a *relatively* remote area, so to get anywhere does take some time, although actual distances are not that far, but you can get to the beach within 40 minutes or so by car and into Malaga within an hour so there is plenty to do around the area. In summary, book it! You won't be disappointed!

It was amazing - the views are just great and once you find the best route up the mountains getting to places was easy. Keeps you fit too.

Verified traveller

It is an enchanting cliff top house
This is a completely different place to stay. Yes it is quirky, but you have so many different options, of where to eat, sleep or to relax. We chose to sleep in the dome, as you wake up looking across the valley. You also have your own private Balcon Comares and yes, you do see people climbing the rocks below you!.
