House in El Olivar, Vejer de la Frontera, Costa de la Luz, Spain - Secluded Property in Large Garden & Pool, 3km from the Beach.

Situated in a rural location between Vejer and Barbate, Casa Jose is one of a handful of secluded properties that lie off the local road. It is backed by pine forest and faces the countryside. This is an unspoilt area of Cadiz province with the traditional tuna fishing port of Barbarte in one direction and the beautiful and historic, fortress hilltop town of Vejer in the other. The house is suitable for those wanting an informal and relaxing holiday. The accommodation is simple but comfortable and has been refurbished over a 6 year period to a high standard. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living/dining area with kitchen. The well tended gardens have mature palm and fruit trees. The large swimming pool is situated in front of the house. There is a roof terrace, plus shaded area for eating outdoors and barbecue. Pets welcome at owners discretion!

About The Owner

We are both in early retirement from rather stressful professional jobs.However we did not want to stop entirely. Refurbishing Casa Jose has been an ongoing project from a busy London life.

The Owner purchased this house in 2004

Why The Owner chose Vejer de la Frontera

It had the potential for change and this mainly tourist free area of 'real Spain' for most of the year.

What makes this house unique

It is in a unique semi-rural location on the migration route for birds coming from Africa via the Straits of Gibraltar. It over looks rolling countryside but has the benefit of having the beautiful white village of Vejer behind it. It boasts a well kept pool and garden of it's own.

Notes on accommodation: Pets are generally welcome but at owners discretion. We do not rent out the property during the winter months. Outside: Large mature garden. There is a porch in front of the house and a further shaded tiled area at the side of the house suitable for eating outdoors with a large table and 6 dining chairs. A barbecue. The pool is 8 x 5m with sun loungers and chairs. Also a roof terrace with views over the countryside seating and a shade. Utility Room: Separate utility room with automatic washing machine, iron, ironing board and cleaning equipment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / laundry service: All bed linen and bathroom towels provided - please provide own beach towels. House cleaned and linen changed weekly. Other: Porch for relaxing/eating/siestas.

El Palmar beach is the nearest at 5km away. There are many long sandy beaches all along the coast - from Cadiz to Tarifa.


Jerez is the nearest airport - 70km away and about 50 minutes drive. Gibraltar is 85km away and Seville and Malaga about 2 - 2½ hours drive away.


Vejer de la Frontera is 3km away and is a hill top 'white town' with Moorish castle and walls. Just a few kilometres away is the site of the Battle of Trafalgar. Cadiz is said to be the oldest port in Europe and is worth visiting. Jerez, famous for sherry and bodegas to visit and sample! Plus the Andalucian riding school and flamenco bars. Tarifa lies further down the coast and is a centre for water sports, whale watching and a trip to Morrocco - Tangiers on the ferry (40 mins).

Further Details:

Vejer has large and small supermarkets as well as shops selling fresh food. There are banks, bars and some very good restaurants. A 20 mins drive away is a country club with golf course and activities for all the family. The nearby port of Barbate has a good market - especially for fish and larger supermarkets.

Booking Notes:
Please email interest, if you decide to book you will be sent a booking form by return. If booking more than 10 weeks in advance then a deposit should be paid followed by half the full amount no less than 10 weeks before. The final payment to be made to the managing agent in Vejer on receipt of keys.

Changeover Day:
Usually Saturday - Saturday during July - September, leaving by 10am and arrival not before 1pm. Outside high season changeover day can be more flexible. However please ask!
