Set in almost 5 acres of land and surrounded by open countryside, Eiras Velhas is situated on a private estate 8 km from Lagos and 3 km from the beautiful bay of Praia da Luz. It is a short walk from the village of Almadena with its restaurants and cafes and a few kilometres from the fishing villages of Burgau and Salema. The beautifully renovated old farm buildings cluster round a sunny courtyard containing large bougainvilleas, old vines and trees, a working well and a fish pond. The whole estate offers a high degree of seclusion and security making it ideal for families and larger groups. Guests are invited to enjoy the mature gardens, lawns, large sheltered swimming pool and sunbathing terrace. There is also a BBQ area and summer kitchen shaded by flowering vines and a huge pepper tree, for informal get-togethers. Self-catering accommodation comprises one 3 bedroom cottage and two 2 bedroom cottage. There are also two 2 bed studios available for any number of nights required.

It all started in 2010, we were looking for a change and along came the opportunity of trying something completely different. We have always enjoyed travelling and experiencing different cultures, the timing was good for us to do something for ourselves. Our kids were now adults and we couldn't think of a reason not to give it a shot. Having years of experience in accounts and customer services this was the perfect area for me to transfer my skills. Alan, my husband has spent his working life in engineering so we really feel we have all bases covered. We rented the property and ran the business for 5 years having completed the purchase one year ago...

Why Kathy Reid chose Praia da Luz

We had only been to Portugal a couple of times before we decided to up sticks and move here. Sounds crazy we know! There's something about the place that makes us feel instantly at home and relaxed. Maybe it's the locals? So friendly and so easy going. The roads are quiet, the beaches are peaceful. The air is so fresh and clean your whole body feels better for it.

It was love at first sight with our property. Those gates and the long long cobbled driveway, down past the pond, it all unfolds the further you look around. The old farmhouse and barns were already made into apartments when we arrived so not too much structural work needed to be done. We have plans to continue with updates to the apartments over a period of time. And of course how can we overlook that beautiful pool. 14 metres long and surrounded by all of that greenery. Heaven.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We fell in love with the rustic nature of this property. Nothing is straight (much to the annoyance of my husband!) Every room is different. That's one thing we're not..a generic hotel chain. We put thought into our apartments and fill them with home comforts and finishing touches which we think you, our guests, will appreciate.

We have our own well which dates back from Roman times, we use this water to irrigate the grounds.

The farmhouses themselves date from the early 1900's. The walls are so thick they keep very cool inside. We love the views from the terrace on Bird of Paradise. 360 degree view of countryside and of our gardens. The pool as already mentioned is the jewel in the crown. So refreshing!

In total there are 5 apartments in an 'L' shape around the pool. The greatest benefit of this is that if you are staying as a large group- for example a 3 generation family- you can each have your own private apartment with bathroom and dining facilities but still be together. The communal areas are great socialising spaces.

We live in the main house on-site so we are handy if you need anything or have any problems but far enough away to leave you to it.

"What a fantastic holiday!"

Paraiso Jardim is a little paradise. The setting is absolutely lovely and for a large group (20 of us) having separate apartments worked brilliantly. The apartments were all lovely and the communal eating area was great with plenty of room for all of us. The pool was big and very clean and well maintained.



The whole set up was great and Kathy and Alan were fantastic and always on hand to help or advise. It was the best family holiday we have had and we will definitely go back!

“Lovely holiday”

We've just returned from a lovely break at Paraiso Jardim. Kathy and Alan were great hosts, very friendly and hospitable. The apartments were very clean and the location in my opinion excellent. The pool is a great size and the accommodation is suitable for couples and families looking for a restful holiday. Largos (10 min drive) is a must for a night out and burgau, best beach in my opinion is 5 min down the lane, you can walk if you wish. But in the heat could be hard work. Parking right on the beach and lovely beach bars. . On top of that the weather is fab, but take a jacket as the wind can be quite chilly in the evenings. Would I recommend this venue, most definitely, myself and my wife will return again next year. We hired a car for the duration which I believe is a must. We visited the beaches West of Lagos and found some little gems. Atlantic sea cold but exhilarating. Nice to return to the pool for the late sun.

5th Time!!!

Once again (must be 5th visit?) we've stayed at Paraiso Jardim with its clean sunny big blue pool, large shady garden, charcoal grill barbeque area with tables, kitchen, washing machine etc, and everything you need laid on by the owners, Kathy and Al who are always so helpful and friendly. We've got to know the area well by now, and in our opinion there's nothing we've seen that's anything like P.J. and its great setting. The classic cobbled little village of Almadena is across the road and has bars and restaurants (In a couple of which you seldom hear an English word. Fantastic...we're actually in a foreign land!) and a mini supermarket. The surroundings are real old style Portuguese with a few small farmers, livestock and lots of herby smelling wild country full of birds. You can get around by bus, but they're not that frequent so you need to plan, but in any case if you get caught out, the odd local taxi ride won't break the bank.

What a beautiful location

What a lovely location and a great place to stay.

Kath and Al, from the start made the family welcome, this continued throughout the holiday. On arrival, when driving up the cobbled roadway from the main gate, it immediately instilled that Algarve feeling - beautiful blue sky, warm breeze, lovely buildings and a great feeling of tranquillity.

We stayed in the apartment ?Vine?. It was very spacious and well fitted out with all the facilities and utensils that we required. We found the outer dining area exceptionally useful for evening meals with large tables / chairs, very roomy, with additional fridge / freezer and the view looking out over the courtyard was picture perfect. Bedroom space was more than adequate both in floor space and cupboards, as was the living space, kitchen and bathroom. Overall the apartment was beautifully, well furnished, clean and well decorated.

The pool and pool area was well kept, with plenty of sun beds, and a attractive table area for afternoon sit arounds.

Kath & Al?s place is ideally located for local restaurants and bars with local beaches / towns a short ?hop? away. Great location can?t wait to go back.

Best hosts I have ever met....

There was a downside ? we had to come home!!!

We are so happy that you enjoyed yourselves, people work all year for that 2 week holiday in the sun and we feel it is our duty to ensure you have the best holiday you can no matter what your hobbies are, I know Cal enjoyed the horse riding trip we organised for him and Nick enjoyed the karting. This really was a good find. We enjoyed our stayed in Bouganvillea in July 2013. Liked the swimming pool, quiet garden and with both separate facilities and communal area we could choose either to cook/eat separately or mix with the other families in the bbq area.

Kathy and Alan's knowledge of the area was very helpful in choosing which beach to go to or where to visit.

Definitely we plan to return - it would be great to come with friends and to take the whole place.

All together yet seporate

If you want a Holiday with Family and Friends this is the place for you,

plenty of area for you all to play "we are all kids at heart" and a good size pool so you can bomb the kids, and when you have had enough for the day you can go to your own apartment to Chill,

Bars and restaurants 5 minute walk 10 on the way back, Bus stop next to the Bars Very handy,Nice walks and lots of hidden gems like hundreds of terrapins living in the reservoir 5 min walk on the road to LUZ,

We are booking again may try October I don't like it too hot it evaporates the drinks, This is a good clean and very friendly are of Portugal good walks and plenty to do, Hope to see you their I will be the big kid bombing in the pool in the day or the old man drinking a port outside his apartment with His wife saying HOW old are you, Thanks to Kath and Alan for a hustle free and very friendly stay Its like going to your Mums,

Eiras Velhas is only minutes drive from some of the Algarve's most beautiful beaches – Praia da Luz 3km, Burgau 3km, Salema 8km - and the spectacular west coast.

Travel:

Eiras Velhas is just off the main EN125 main road which joins the A22 motorway at Lagos making it less than 1 hour from Faro Airport and approximately 2.5 hours (motorway all the way) from Lisbon. Car hire is strongly recommended.

Distances:

The historical town of Lagos is 8km east from Eiras Velhas.

In addition to golf, the area has a wide range of sporting facilities including the newly built motor racing circuit, windsurfing, sailing, surfing, diving, horse riding, tennis, bowls, dolphin watching and deep sea fishing.
