1 bedroom detached cosy garden cottage

Bedrooms 1
Space 538 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Sleeps 2 plus room for travel cot with garage and gardens

Situated in the grounds of the owners holiday home, 'Trinabelle' is an historical building newly renovated in 2010 with a newly fitted separate kitchen and lounge dining area on the ground floor and original narrow stairs leading to the bedroom with en-suite shower room. There are exposed beams throughout and electric heating for all year round enjoyment.

There is a rose garden to the front with the rear garden mainly lawn with a small wooded area to explore.

The property faces west and is ideal for enjoying afternoon sun and beautiful sunsets. Patio furniture is provided for outside dining together with 2 sun loungers and BBQ. The separate garage is available for storing your car and bikes, if you bring them with you. The cottage is ideal for those simply seeking a relaxing break with afternoon strolls to view the waterfalls and the White Abbey (L' Abbaye Blanche) or equally those seeking adventurous activities. More info on website

If you are seeking a peaceful break...: you may enjoy the fact that 'Trinabelle' is in a quiet French village. The cottage is raised from the road and provides views of the garden, local stone houses and countryside beyond. You could easily leave your car in the garage all week and walk/cycle along the many footpaths or long distance cycle paths. The area is quite hilly and from several viewpoints around the area there are magnificent vistas available. From La Petite Chapelle you can see as far as Mont St Michel on a clear day.

Local bars and restaurants are all within a short stroll of the cottage and the market town of Mortain can be reached via the waterfall walks or on the country lanes and if walking back after dark the high street road is lit all the way back to the cottage.

The rose garden at the front is a great place to relax with the patio bench and table right outside the cottage.

The rear garden is all lawned with a small wooded area.

If you are seeking something energetic then...: might enjoy the numerous activities available very close by. Within walking distance there is a tennis court (small fee payable locally) and an open air public swimming pool in the summer months. The local Go Kart circuit is open to the public and is just over 1 mile away. Rock Climbing in Mortain can be arranged through the activity centre in Torchamp (a short drive away) as can canoeing and other outdoor activities.

Bikes can be hired from the local hire shop in the Village at reasonable rates but if possible we would recommend you bring your own as they can be stored in the garage.

There are some quite challenging VTT ( Mountain Bike ) courses locally and the area provides quite testing running terrain too.

Within 3 miles there is an adventure park with an 800m zipwire course and the world famous Hackett Bungy Jumping is available within a 45 minute drive.

There is also a local activity park with a waterpark and various theme park rides a short drive away.

If you want to use the area as a base....: .... then it is a great base to tour the many Normandy attractions.

Easily reached by car you can find superb sandy beaches (some with views of the historical Mont St Michel), Mont St Michel itself, St Malo, World War 2 landing beaches, Bayeux Tapestry, Caen Memorial, various zoos, Interesting market towns (such as Domfront) and many parks and gardens.

Mortain is on the edge of a French National Park and as such makes for some excellent countryside for driving tours.

About Steven Read

Jenny and I first bought our holiday home in Normandy in 2007 and always wanted somewhere with a little cottage that we could renovate and rent out for holidaymakers. As such we renovated Trinabelle in Oct 2010 and have had many guest who have enjoyed their holidays there ever since.

Steven Read purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Steven Read chose Le Neufbourg

We were attracted to this part of France as it is relatively easy to reach from England and we also love rural green rolling countryside which this area of Normandy offers in abundance. As we are both quite active and enjoy walking, cycling and running the location we chose is ideal for all these activities.

What makes this cottage unique

Our favourite things about the cottage and the area are the 2 beautiful waterfalls within such a short walk. Trinabelle herself faces west and it is wonderful on a warm summers evening to either sit on the patio just outside or throw the door and the window open and relax on the sofa and watch the sunset.

The stairs are the original stairs and as such are quite narrow with a bend at the top. Equally very tall people will need to be aware of the beam at the top of the stairs. There are 5 steps from the road up to the property - there is a grab rail to hold onto. The oven is a double electric oven with grill. There is an electric wall heater in the kitchen and the lounge and bedroom. The doorway between the kitchen and lounge is equally old and low and care must be taken to mind your head.

Nice simple clean cottage in good location.

As we arrived on a Saturday (from Uk, so pm) a small welcome pack would have been helpful- just some milk, a baguette and some toilet roll.

Comfortable Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in this garden guesthouse, and found it to be very comfortable. It is an excellent place to stay in order to see the Normandy countryside. Visiting the WWII beaches, the WWII cemeteries, Mortain, Mont St. Michel, Bayeaux, Granville, Cancale, St. Malo, and the many surrounding villages are all fairly short drives away. Especially appreciated was the garage to park the car, as one was needed on this vacation. There are many trails around for hiking, and also a running/hiking trail on the bed of the old train tracks nearby. We hope to return to this area in the future and would definitely contact the owners to stay there again.

Toller Urlaub in der Normandie!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Wer was sehen will und nur ca. 100 Kilometer (maximal) (St.Malo, Caen, Falaise, Bayeux, Le Mt. DANKE!!!!!!!!

Car: recommended

Le Neufbourg is a small bourg village 1 mile north of the market town of Mortain. The area is most famous for its 2 magnificent waterfalls, La Petite Cascade and La Grande Cascade (both a short walk from the house). The area is well suited for walkers and cyclists as the GR22 long distance footpath runs close by and there is easy access to a cycle route that follows the path of the old railway as far as Mont St Michel. There are several bars/restaurants and boulangeries within walking distance of the house. In the local area there is the chance to enjoy other activities such as the open air swimming pool in the summer months, go karting, tennis, cinema, zipwire course and rock climbing. Further afield there are indoor pools, canoeing and Hackett bungy jumping. Beaches are within an hour as is the historic Mont St Michel. Granville port (within 1 hour) provides access to the Channel Islands. The area is also a good base to visit the WW2 landing beaches, Bayeux tapestry and St Malo.

Other Activities: Zip wire adventure park, Go Karts
