About Uzumlu & Getting There: Uzumlu is a quiet tranquil village just a 15 minute drive into the mountains from Fethiye, a bustling harbour town. The journey along the gentle winding road follows a stream cut into the mountain rock, along which there are many water fountains flowing with natural spring water. You will often see families stopped at these sites filling up their water bottles for the day ahead! As you arrive in Uzumlu, you are greeted by olive groves, fields of vegetables, and amongst many other fruits, an abundance of pomegranates and prickly pear trees. You will suddenly find yourself surrounded by stunning views of the impressive mountain range and National Park.
The village centre has many traditional Turkish houses where you will often find families sitting selling their hand made crafts and fresh produce on their door steps. There are many flights from various airports to Dalaman-50 mins away. It is recommended to have car hire from the airport and we can arrange this or transfers for you.
Other Nearby Places to Visit: Hisaronu and Ovacik are located just outside Olu Deniz. Hisaronu has numerous nightclubs and bars and many restaurants to suit any palette. You will also find many clothes, jewellery and gift stores. Ovacik is more of a residential area with a high street lined with bars serving a range of traditional Turkish and English food.
Kaya is an ancient village containing the ruins of 2000 stone houses, all of which were abandoned in 1912 by its Greek inhabitants. It is known as the Ghost Town, and well worth a visit. Within the Ghost Town are a couple of recommended wine houses, and the British owned horse riding stables, Perma Ranch, is also located there.
A short drive from Uzumlu is the ancient city of Cadianda. Cadianda is a Roman city which has been partially excavated to reveal extensive ruins which include Roman baths, tombs, a stadium, theatre, and water cisterns.
Gocek is an up market marina town in the most magnificent setting. It is favoured by many celebrities and the yachting community. Tlos is a Roman ruin set on a rocky summit which has over 200 tombs built into it. There is an ancient amphitheatre where you will still find much Roman writing carved into stone. The remains found there have been dated back to the 4th century. Saklikent Gorge is one of the worlds' most narrow gorges, it was discovered in 1989 and is now a national park. Here you will find a number of restaurants where you can sit at your Turkish table and dangle your feet into the gorges' water which flows beneath you. For a small fee you can cross the bridge into the gorge and enjoy a walk through the waters. Or amongst other activities, take a river rapid trip on a raft. We will be pleased to give you advice on where best to visit.
We are Matt and Alex and we have 2 young children, Gracie and Joshua. We travelled to Turkey on our honeymoon in the summer of 2006 and totally fell in love with the country. So much so that we actually bought this villa during that holiday. Ever since then we try to get over there as often as possible during the year and have never looked back. We are both into our sport so have purchased mountain bikes for the villa and we enjoy to explore the villages and mountains. Getting up nice and early for a run in the morning is always a must for us; taking in the breathtaking views and enjoying the tranquility before deciding how to spend the rest of the day. The villa is now perfectly kitted out for young children and it feels like home from home for us. We have recently added a low wrought iron fence, matching that of the terrace, separating the garden from the pool so that we can enjoy the garden and be sure that our toddler cannot reach the water. We were extremely apprehensive about renting our second home out but the knowledge that many families have been able to enjoy the house as much as we do truly is rewarding. We have a very good friend who looks after the villa whilst we are away and he also takes care of any guests during their stay. He has been a god send; without him we wouldn't be able to offer the house for rent.
Alexandra and Matthew Bennion purchased this villa in 2006
Why this property??? The pictures speak for themselves! We sat on the dusty, bare terrace during the viewing and realised that we had a problem. We had fallen in love and it was way above our budget!
Since that date we haven't stopped improving the property; adding more and more of our own personal touch year on year. It certainly does feel like home and we certainly aren't without any of our home comforts whilst we are there. It is relaxing, peaceful and truly stunning. Just a 10 minute walk takes you to the center of the village where there are a number of restaurants and shops to keep us entertained. The locals absolutely love the children and they are so warm and welcoming to the British people. We have developed good friendships with them over the years and always look forward to seeing them and sharing a beer or two.
This house is perfect for those who enjoy sitting in the sun all day like myself but also for those like my husband who would prefer to spend time in the shade. During the summer months, the terrace and garden seating area are in the shade all day whilst the pool area is in full sun. During the winter months when the sun isn't as high in the sky, the terrace is in the sun, giving a lovely warm temperature to enjoy sitting outdoors. The drive way is easily large enough to fit 4 cars in if there are 4 couples who would prefer to have the freedom to do their own thing during the day time and meet up again in the evening to enjoy a BBQ and drinks. With the house being open plan downstairs, we have had families of 12 stay and say that they do not feel as though they were short of space. There are a total of 5 different seating areas, 6 if you include the poolside, between the indoors and outdoors to give everyone their own space.
Thank you for letting us stay at your lovely villa again!
Our favorite place is sitting on the terrace and eating breakfast and taking in the beautiful views of the mountains and village, and the stunning sunsets in the evening whilst enjoying a very competitive game of scrabble!
The village shops are great for the everyday essentials, but if you want to do a big shop there is now a Tesco (called Kipa) on the main Fethiye road.
Take the mountain bikes out early in the morning into the village, the freshly cooked bread is still warm and there is a lovely breeze back to the villa (if you cycle fast enough!)
Thank you again Alex and Matt for all the help and info.
I’ve just returned from spending a week at this Villa and it was possibly the most relaxed week of my life since having Children (and they came with me!)!
I don’t really know where to start… The villa has spectacular views of the mountains that surround it, the sunsets are to die for! You can view the sunset from the back of the villa but we tended to all gravitate to either the shaded seated area in the garden or from the veranda. We tended not to walk into the village until the sun had set, not just because it was cooler but because we did not want to miss the sunset.
The owners have thought of everything, it is evident that they spend a lot of time holidaying in the villa and as such, it’s well thought out, spacious, well equipped and safe for children. The pictures don’t do it justice, it’s far bigger than the photos make it look. I had loads of questions about the villa and the village and the owners answered all of them before we went, they are so helpful and even if you have a question whilst you are there, they would be happy to help. They have also arranged for a gentlemen called Metin to be on hand if you need any help whilst you are there. Metin is fantastic! Nothing is a problem for him and being local he can arrange most things for you, if needed.
I have a two year old and a three year old, so I obviously had concerns for their safety. Not here. The owners have installed baby gates at the top and bottom of the stairs (These are removed when parties without children are staying) and then the veranda is completely fenced off with a gate leading down to the garden and then the pool is completely gated so the kids can play in the garden without being at risk of going near the pool. This was ideal for myself and my family as I didn’t feel like I had to keep my eyes on them constantly.
The pool is maintained to a high standard, with the pool man coming every other day, you will only notice that he has been because the pool is slightly fuller – he must come very early in the morning. The garden is well maintained and the shaded seated area was a godsend. When my kids weren’t in the pool, they spent several hours each day sitting on the bean bags in the shade; colouring, stickering and watching films/cartoons on the iPad. The Wi-Fi is excellent and I was easily able to stream films in the shaded area even though the modem was inside. There was 8 of us staying at the villa and even with us all using Wi-Fi at the same time, it was never slow.
This was our 6th visit to Uzumlu in the last 6 years, but our first stay at this villa. We are a family of 5, and Beyaz Ev suited us perfectly. It was very clean, well equipped and very spacious. The bedrooms all had air-conditioning units which is certainly needed during the summer months. We spent many hours in and around the immaculate pool, and the covered terrace is ideal for escaping the midday sun, and for evenings sat out enjoying a glass of wine whilst watching the sunsets (and the hubbie cooking the bbq!). The villa is about a 15 minute walk in to the beautiful and traditional village of Uzumlu, where you will find plenty of small shops stocking your everyday items, and a selection of very friendly restaurants serving good food. I would certainly recommend this villa, and hope to return ourselves too.
This is a lovely spacious, well-equipped villa in a peaceful village but within easy reach of the beaches and nightlife around Fethiye - we've stayed in plenty of villas over the years and I would thoroughly recommend Beyaz Ev.
What made our stay really special for us was Alex and Matt who are such genuine people and go to such lengths to help, both before and during our stay. They seem to share the Turkish spirit of hospitality which is the thing we love most about the country and this gave our visit a really personal touch. They know the area incredibly well and when they say people in a restaurant or on a boat are their friends, they really mean it (some have even been to stay with them in England) so do take them up on any of their recommendations.
The villa itself is very big and airy, with a well-equipped kitchen and a huge veranda with fantastic views over the vally to the hills beyond. There's a good pool which is not overllooked, with plenty of space around it. It's also much cooler in Uzumlu than down on the coast which made the nights much more bearable. There wasn't a mosquito in sight which meant we could sleep with the windows open and be woken by the clinking of bells as the goats were taken up to the pastures in the morning past the back of the house.
Uzumlu itself has a proper square and enough bars and restaurants to provide some variety if you decide to eat there but you shouldn't miss buying fish in the Fish Market in Fethiye and taking it to the fruit and veg market next door and having it cooked there, away from the fishy smells.
The ruins at Cadiana (or Kadyanda) are a revelation. You drive up for about 20 mins up a pretty rough road but as you are among the pine forest it is lovely and cool up there and completely devoid of tourists (or it was at 10am-12 noon). You climb up a steep winding path and then come upon the most amazing amphitheatre, forum etc hidden amongst the trees, with astonishing views all the way to Fethiye. Even if you're not into historic ruins, we would recommend this.
I don't normally write reviews after I've been on holiday but I always look at them and thought I'd make an exception as we had such a lovely time. Hope you like your stay as much as we did!
Beyaz Ev is a beautiful villa in the friendly town of Uzumlu. It is a lovely spacious villa that easily catered for our extended family holiday. We spent many happy hours in the swimming pool and made use of the facilities including the villa's bbq. It is well furnished with modern furniture and the kitchen was very well equipped, a real home from home.
Uzumlu is a small village where you can sample a taste of Turkish life. It has a well stocked convenience store, a nice wine house and a small selection of good restaurants. Everybody was very friendly and helpful.
Only 15 minutes away (by car) is the seaside harbour town of Fethiye which is one of our favourite Turkish resorts. You can also easily visit Olu Deniz which has great beaches and sports facilities. There are many great places to visit in this area of Turkey!
We would certainly recommend a hire car and the owners arranged a spacious car at a reasonable price. We were also picked up and returned to the airport and the hire company were again friendly and reliable (they even took us to a shop on the way to the villa to buy some essentials).
But our lasting memory will be enjoying the pool and enjoying Beyaz Ev's stunning views particularly in the early evenings while sitting on the large terrace watching the sunset over the mountains.
Excellent villa with beautiful private pool area. Located within a 10 min walk from the traditional village of Uzumlu. The villa has 3 good sized bedrooms and is ideal for a family holiday. A fantastic, peaceful location yet only a 15 min drive to the coast
Beyaz Ev is a lovely villa. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet, the mountain views, the great pool and sitting on the terrace. The villa itself was very spacious and comfortable. The owners were extremely helpful and we had everything we needed.
The village of Uzumlu has a lot of character and remains unspoilt. There are several good restaurants and shops for fresh bread and basic provisions. We also found the locals to be extremely friendly.
There is something for everyone here as there are lots of places to see and things to do. We managed to please a thrill-seeking teenage son with quad-biking, white water rafting and scuba diving and a sun-seeking daughter with beautiful beaches such as the famous Olu Deniz. There was also plenty of sight-seeing and ruins for us to enjoy. One of the highlights of our holiday was Saklikent Gorge where you can sit in a cafe by the river's edge and dangle your feet in the turquoise water - or race down the river on a doughnut!
We recommend a car to get the most out of your holiday, although there are frequent dolmus (mini-bus) from Uzumlu to Fethiye. You can get dolmus from Fethiye to lots of places and there are plenty of day trips and boat trips.
We all agreed it was one of our best holidays and look forward to returning.
Uzumlu is a quiet tranquil village with stunning mountain views and a small number of restaurants, shops and an internet cafe, just a 15 minute drive into the mountains from Fethiye, a bustling harbour town.
Fethiye was once a minor fishing village but is now a thriving tourist centre, with a vast choice of restaurants, bars, cafes, shops and a weekly market. The extensive harbour boasts an enormous choice of tourist trips for you to enjoy. There are many gift shops in Fethiye where you can buy products such as Turkish rugs, pottery and jewellery. Also locally is Olu Deniz which is famous for being the most photographed beach in the world. The sheltered lagoon has a wonderful backdrop of pine forests and mountains, and is the perfect place to witness the sunset. There is a cool, laid back atmosphere with a good selection of restaurants and bars. There are numerous activities happening here such as paragliding, canyoning, micro-lighting and amongst many others, scuba diving.
Other Activities: Boat trips, Roman ruins to explore, shopping, eating out, canyoning.
