About Francoise

Retired teacher from college, Grammar School and later, University ( Paris 8)

One daughter married with three sons; Head of IT in a manufacturing industry in Preston (Lancs) Chief governor of a Special School in Blackpool

Francoise purchased this apartment in 1984

Why Francoise chose Goutte d'Or

Loved the local scene, particularly the bright colours under this northern sky.

What makes this apartment unique

Direct access to the outside was terribly important to me as was the fact that, surrounded by private and communal gardens, the flat was free of traffic noise, particularly in the early hours when lorries start delivering.

Beautiful apartment, close to the metro, spacious and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

I loved my stay! The apartment was lovely, and had everything one could need. It had a charming atmosphere with beautiful terraces. It was very easy to access the metro and was walking distance from many landmarks in Montmartre. I would absolutely return!

Clean and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is very clean and comfortable. We had enough space for a family of four. I can tell the owner has upgrade a lot of things for this apartment to make your stay enjoyable. Whoever cleans this property does a very good job because I don’t see any dust in anywhere. The kitchen has all the utensils we need to cook for our breakfast. Plenty of plates and glasses for us to use. The apartment has separate wash and dryer which we prefer. However, the dryer handle is broken and the door can not be closed. We end up having to use a chair to hold the door close in order to make it work. The dryer is also pretty old. The apartment is in an African Neighbourhood. When you get off from the tube station, you will pass several African grocery stores. There are a lot of African people standing outside chatting and shopping. When we return from sightseeing in the evening around 11 pm, there were a lot of garbage on the street. However, once you enter the apartment building, it is so quiet and clean. It is almost like two different worlds. The lady who gave us the keys and showed us the apartment was very nice and helpful. Her English is good too. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in this apartment except the dryer and outside of the apartment.

Owner's Response: It is true that one of the 2 clothes dryers in the kitchen, has a broken door handle and that, if the door is maintained closed with something, it still does the job. When a great many flats in Paris have no dryer to offer at all, I think that one in full working order and one in relative working order, is still a fairly acceptable deal. Recently, a lot of specialised African food and ware stores have opened in and around the street. As a result, the rubbish lying in the streets late in the day which the Local Authority, have to clean up during the course of the night is something the Town Hall is trying to solve but has yet to find the right solution...The extravagant amount of packaging necessary to import these African vegetables and fruit is greatly responsible! Another consequence is a higher concentration of people from African origin, coming from all over Paris and the suburbs to do their shopping. France is a multicultural country ( the French football team who have just won the World Cup illustrates this to perfection!). Serious travellers, ready to confront reality with the usual " cliches " and eager to perceive new trends in today's Western European Capital cities will probably appreciate the chance to see for themselves and as the numerous reviews about the flat show, in the past, many did indeed!

Well-kept, welcoming and charming

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay immensely. The flat was comfortable, tidy and had everything we needed. We found the neighborhood interesting and lively. Francois provided detailed instructions on how to find the flat and plenty of suggestions on things to do.

A great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We have been to Paris previously, but this time we are delighted to have found this place! The peace and quiet inside the flat after a very busy day followed by the interesting and good natured bustle outside felt absolutely lovely! in Paris where, private gardens are a rarity, we were surrounded by greenery! We found it very comfortable, clean and particularly well equipped. We liked the fact that it was clearly somebody's home, not just another tourist flat even if there were no obvious personal belongings around. Through the books, the CDs, the DVDs available and the pictures on the walls we thought we could sense some of the spirit of the French owner and that also made us feel good about our choice. We look forward to our return next September for the Ryder's cup...
