Charming Old Farmhouse Combines Serenity, Curiosity, Adventure And Convenience!

The 1860s Waterfall Retreat sits on a beautiful one acre lot with waterfall views & access to Flory Park via a picturesque footbridge - perfect for special pictures and memories. The park inspires you to fish Mill Creek, play in the playground, ride bikes, boat down the creek (be careful of the dam) and has a great dog-friendly trail that provides clean up stations. The 1860s Waterfall Retreat is constructed of old Lancaster brick and is located in the historic town of Fertility. Though updated, the home is best for older mature children due to unique furnishings and natural age aspects of the home's construction. Convenient location to all things in downtown Lancaster (Route 30 & Lincoln Highway) minutes to outlets, Sight & Sound, American Music Theatre, 15mins to Spooky Nook Sports, and right in the heart of Amish Country. The house has two separate living levels (duplex) and the old home layout with the two original front doors, transom windows and original white pine wood floors. The beautiful views of the waterfall through the massive sliding doors or from the porch are a highlight of both the first and second floor living spaces. The unique 2 unit layout was created in the early 1900s to accommodate a live in caretaker for one of the early owners of this old house. The layout provides the perfect opportunity to plan a retreat with family, friends, possibly even in laws and still have your own space to get away within the home. The bedrooms are historically cozy and charming, while the 3 living areas and 2 kitchens boast a very comfortable space for entertaining and socializing. The 1860s Waterfall Retreat looks forward to being your home base, as you will be able to relax on the property, explore PA Dutch Country, go antiquing, outlet shopping, wine tasting, brewery hopping, etc. and enjoy all that the property and area has to offer. Please note that the convenient location of this home is also the historical Strasburg Turnpike and still connects Lancaster to Strasburg; therefore, it is a very busy road and you are able to hear the traffic noise. If you are a light sleeper, please feel free to bring noise cancelling headphones or use earplugs provided in the bathrooms. As for experiencing the area, please message me if you are interested in meeting my Amish friend (‘framily’), Barbara, who runs an in home hobby shop for making greeting cards, as she loves meeting my guests. About Suzi

Lancaster has always had a special place in my heart with its rich culture, history, great food but mostly because Lancaster is where my Grandparents lived! With my current career being a USA international field hockey umpire, it only made sense to buy a property near family and the USA Home of Hockey. I have owned this home since 2015 and am constantly updating it while also trying to preserve its charm.

Why Suzi chose Fertility

This property is a dream home with enough land to keep me busy outside and all the inside charm and character that an old 1860s farmhouse can provide. The house has two living units divided between top and bottom living levels. This listing reflects renting the entire home. A lot of blood, sweat and tears have gone into restoring this house, and I hope that you get to enjoy its serenity and can keep coming back to see all the progress I will be making on it in the years to come. It is so unique to own my own park like setting and to have the park, creek and waterfall all right there. Because I love the outdoors, hiking & fishing - this is the perfect location to enjoy it all with my best friend (my dog, Vernie).

What makes this farmhouse unique

This property is close by to Amish country and even has a rich Amish history, as several families have congregated here for years over the 4th of July. The balance that this house provides between the convenience of the location and the unique country historical location in Fertility, PA is the perfect blend for today's world. The views from the 1st & 2nd floor living areas and the porches are priceless. In the summer, the lush green and fruit trees with the waterfall sound in the background is so peaceful. Feel free to pick some raspberries on the property or eat a few of the pears from the pear tree. The first harvest of applesauce from the apple trees was absolutely wonderful! The beauty of the fall leaves and especially the bright yellow leaves on the unique Gingko tree central to the backyard is also a favorite view. Our neighbor spotted bald eagles soaring above the creek, and I have spotted a buck crossing the dam and running through the park. The shopping is pretty amazing here as well, whether it's a bargain at a flea market, mud sale or auction or heading to the outlets that you enjoy - we have it all in Lancaster County. I have my favorites, but this home is only 500 yards from the Old Mille House Shoppes that features beautiful primitive and country decor - the quilt in the 2nd floor master is from there. I hope you will be able to share with me some of your favorite views and photos from your stay or maybe even introduce me to something new in Lancaster County.

Perfect for small or large group

The house reminds me of my grandparents house. It is a lovely old place that has been upgraded with new appliances and perfectly working plumbing. Each floor has kitchen, large living area, dining, two bedrooms and a bath. There were 3 large flatscreen TV's; one downstairs and two upstairs. Our large group of eleven rented both floors and found it very comfortable. The grandparents and couple with two youngest children stayed downstairs, using the two bedrooms and sleeper sofa. Three other adults and two teens occupied upstairs, also using a sleeper sofa. There is a very large second floor deck that we used for a cookout. Sixteen people were not crowded at all. The house is on a lot with a river next to the back yard. Very scenic and lovely. The kitchens were stocked with coffee and tea, some snacks and a few basics. Obviously, previous roomers had left behind a variety of canned goods, etc, as did we. There was plenty of furniture, both indoors and on the deck. Beds were comfy; linens were nice. An added bonus was the use of a very nice laundry room. Overall, we were extremely pleased. A very few minor negatives: stairs are very narrow and steep like most old houses. There is an outside stairway to the second floor deck which would probably be the best way to bring in luggage. It is located on a busy street, on a curve. The parking was adequate but you must be cautious entering and exiting. We thought it was a real gem and would highly recommend it.

Beautiful setting for a family reunion!

We and three of our daughters' families enjoyed this beautifully situated, restored farmhouse. Having a self-contained kitchen apartment on each level gave some privacy when needed, but the gathering spots on each level and the upper deck provided lots of chatting space. The yard and view of the waterfall from the back are unbeatable, and the yard adjoins a park where we took a nice Sunday walk. The kids enjoyed playing ping pong on the old cement ping pong table and tumbling in the grass. Having space for our dog to join us made it the perfect spot for a Memorial Day weekend. Suzi anticipated our needs and immediately addressed a small maintenance issue that arose. We would love to return!

Perfect Vacation Home for Four Couples

My friends and I chose this house because the four bedrooms all have queen beds. This made it ideal for four adult couples--no kids' rooms with twin beds that someone got stuck with. The setting was lovely from top to bottom, from furnishings to amount of space through the beautiful view. Proximity to Lancaster city and nearby Wal-Mart, while still having the lovely nature scene in the background, made it an ideal location. We definitely appreciated the stocked kitchen. Only downsides were the road noise (not actually a problem late at night during sleep), and parking was somewhat cramped, but the rest of the amenities more than made up for it. I would definitely recommend this home!

Authentic farmhouse feel, beautiful views

Spent Easter at this beautiful place. Hospitality was wonderful, Suzi was very helpful. Bedrooms were comfortable and the kitchen, ( we stayed upstairs) Was clean and had everything I needed and more! But my favorite thing was to sit in the living room or on the deck and bird watch while watching the waterfall. I definitely recommend this place.

Perfect, dog-friendly home and "home base" for exploring "Pennsylvania Dutch" country

My family (including grandma, tween son and two dogs) drove up for an extended weekend to spend some time exploring the area. We loved the house. The farmhouse has so much charm, but every convenience we needed. Suzi even stocked up on coffee, bread and yogurt for us. The setting is very nice, and the trails behind the house were perfect for walking the dogs. I was so happy that we stayed here, rather than in downtown Lancaster. Suzi's recommendations for food were also spot-on. We met Suzi when we came in, and she was so accommodating. We really appreciated being able to bring our dogs as well. As the listing mentions, the street in front of the house is quite busy, but the parking area is expansive and big enough to pull in and turn around. We'd love to come back sometime!

The retreat is central to everything Lancaster county. Only a 5-15 minutes from downtown Lancaster with amazing restaurants and shopping, Amish Country, Outlet Shopping, Central Market, Spooky Nook Sports, Dutch Wonderland, American Music Theatre and Sight & Sound Theatre, Bird-in-Hand, Intercourse, Antique shops, Fishing & Hiking, and so much more. You will need to spend lots of time in order to truly experience all Lancaster County has to offer. My favorite spots are fishing along the creek, going to Root's Market on Tuesdays in Manheim, and just enjoying the backyard of the 1860s Retreat with my dog.

Cancellation Policy:
CANCELLATIONS. (a) If the Property becomes unavailable to the Tenant prior to occupancy, for any reason, Landlord agrees to refund the full amount paid to the date of cancellation, and Tenant agrees to release any claims against Landlord. (b) If, for any reason, the Tenant cancels this Agreement more than 15 days from the Arrival Date, Tenant will receive a refund of amounts paid, less a $100.00 cancellation fee. For Tenant cancellations made 14 days or less, all monies are forfeited unless Landlord is able to re-rent the Property under the same (or better) terms and conditions of this Agreement, for the full Term reserved. If the Property is re-rented under the same (or better) terms and conditions than this Agreement, Landlord will refund amounts paid, less a Cancellation Fee of $100.00. (c) There are no cancellations permitted within 13 days of Tenant Arrival Date. All amounts paid (Reservation Deposit and Final Payment) will be forfeited. Failure to pay the Final Payment in a timely manner will be considered a cancellation under this subparagraph and will result in forfeiture of the Reservation deposit.
