Stone Cottage, near to Lake, and next to river and children's playground

Originally the wool store for the small hamlet of Laithes, Petteril View is a traditional detached cottage which has been extended to provide very comfortable accommodation for 8 people. Situated 4 miles from Penrith and just over 1 mile from the M6. Peteril View is a quiet retreat with easy access to Lake Ullswater, Keswick, the Eden Valey and the tranquil Caldbeck Fels. Nearby in Greystoke there is an outdoor swimming pool, an activity centre with quad bikes, archery, fishing, shooting and falconry. Eden Ostrich World at Langwathby and the Reghed Centre is nearby with its variety of shops, exhibitions, local produce, big screen cinema and children's play area. The nearest pub is approx 3 miles. Next door to the cottage is a small park with BBQ area, swings and a river with stepping stones. There are some very good restaurants within short drive, the Highland Drove in Great Salkeld serves excellent food at reasonable prices, and Sharrow Bay on Ullswater, reputedly the best in Cumbria

Rather late, but neverthelss sincere, I write to say how very much we all enjoyed our holiday at Petteril Cottage;. From the first to the last moment we were very comfortable, especially with the wood-burning stoves, so welcome during that week! which kept the two boys (and me!) very busy. I had forgotten how enjoyable it is to see the logs catch fire and burn and turn into beautiful flickering flames. Very good for relaxation!

Everything was impeccable, nothing had been forgotten and your standards are more than 100%.

If it is still available in August 2017 we shall certainly contact you to re-book. (We go alternate years to different branches of the family, next year it is Somerset and Bristol).

Perfect cottage for a cosy family get-together

I was so glad to have booked this property. The location made access (from Glasgow, Bristol, Manchester and London ) very easy. Excellent walking within easy reach. We were close enough to visit Ullswater, Keswick, and to climb Helvellyn, and with Penrith so close, we could stock up on supplies easily. The cottage was really cosy, with plenty of space for us all. We liked that it had it's own style rather than the soulless "corporate" feel you can often get in holiday lets. We could really feel at home here. Such a treat to have a large dining table, so we cooked in rather than eat out. Very well equipped with all the utensils we needed. The beds were all very comfortable, rooms were warm, water was hot. I should have read the instructions better, as no towels were provided. ( This had been clear, so it was my fault!). But we bought some in Penrith. The cottage was a perfect place to get away and I would definitely go again.

Charming Cottage on edge of Lakes

Cottage is full of character, and interesting objects, with the interior varying from a traditional-looking dining room to a more modern-looking lounge.

Outside space also appealing, with south-facing patio sporting a bench-table for outside dining (unfortunately our weather was poor for July so we couldn't take much advantage of this), and a bit of garden space.

Not much to do in Laithes itself, and some of the country paths are overgrown, but there are nearby attractions. Plus Penrith is a 10 minute drive for shopping, and eg. Keswick, Grasmere, Pooley Bridge, Glenridding are all about 30 mins or less. Sun Inn at Newton Reigny is only a few mins drive (good food), or 20 min walk, plus there's the Boot & Shoe at Greystoke and the well-situated Sportsman near Penruddock.

Facilities are fine - WiFi and Sky tv work well. Perhaps not completely 5-star facilities, but certainly 5-star value.

Great cottage & location

Great cottage and location. We did a lot of walking in the Lake District and it was perfect for North & Western Fells - Keswick, Ullswater and Glenridding. Penrith is a fabulous little town with everything you need. The hamlet of Laithes is lovely - incredibly peaceful and very pretty. Awesome wood burner in the lounge :)

Wonderful cottage with easy access to lakes

Lovely cottage exactly as described and perfect location to relax after a busy day visiting the Lake District. A small park close by with a stream gives fun for the kids whilst the patio area allows adults to relax also. Owners very helpful. Would definately visit again.

Half Term in Lakes

Lovely cottage. Full of character and well equipped. We enjoyed our stay.

Had a bit of trouble with the "gas" cooker as it was electric but we fathomed out how to work the oven eventually.

Will seriously consider coming back in warmer weather.

Located in a small hamlet, with the river Petteril running through,approx 4 miles north of Penrith and 7 miles from Lake Ullswater. Nearby are the villages of Greystoke with it's Castle, Blencowe and Newton Reigny. Reghed (one of the largest grass covered buildings in England) with its big screen cinema and shops is about 3 miles west. Center Parcs, Whinfell Forest is a few miles south of Penrith and day passes are available from the Penrith tourist Board. GoApe is located near Keswick which is about 9 miles away along with the North face cycle trail.

Other Activities: Quad-biking, shooting, activity centre, skiing at Alston 40 mins away .
