PAST REVIEWS from guests:

We had a fantastic stay in NY in Bruce's apartment which was exactly as described. The apartment was in a great location with lots of choice right on the doorstep or wherever you wanted to walk to. Bruce kindly provided breakfast for us too which was greatly appreciated. An excellent host and place to stay if you're visiting New York - would definitely recommend.

Chrissy From Southport, United Kingdom · November 2015

Didier From Paris, France - August 2015

My friend and I enjoyed a 5 night stay at Bruce's security building apartment in the East Village. The apartment is quiet and comfortable and in an area surrounded by restaurants and cafes. The subway is a short walk away. Cyndi and Bruce were extremely helpful in providing information about local restaurants and transport and breakfast supplies to get us started.

Linda From Melbourne, Australia - October 2015

Patrick From Sweden - October 2015

Apartment worked out very well for family of four ( 2 large teenagers). Bruce was easy to contact and was on hand to meet us and show us how everything worked, and provided lots of useful info. Apartment was in good order, and in a good location. Glad we stayed in village rather than in the main tourist areas.

David From Cleveland, Ohio - September 2015

Bruce was a great host. This was our first experience with XXXXXX (another booking site) and we couldn't have been more pleased with the results. It was the combination of price point, location and Bruce's wonderful reviews that drove our choice of this property. The apartment was in a perfect location (my son lives a block away), clean and very quiet. Bruce stocked the frig with breakfast items. Such a gracious gesture for the travel weary. Bruce was there to great us when we arrived and was full of helpful hints on getting around East Village. Would definitely recommend one of Bruce's properties for your NYC experience. I definitely plan to return!

About Bruce Weston

Update December, 2015 - Almost 6 years going strong, welcome and hope you join the growing list of my Best Weston guests!

Update February 2014 - After 3 great years of success renting out rooms in my apartment, I have now 3 more apartments and this has become a full time job, with my lovely lady, Cyndi (and her apartment) I met 2 years ago. Rather than looking through all my listings and confusing yourself, I suggest just shooting me a message and let me know your dates, the make up of your party (singles/couples/kids/grand peeps, sorry no pets) and any special needs you may desire. Take a look at my reviews and well, you'll get the picture!! I'll be delighted to add you to my wonderful guest list now topping 46 different countries!

As you'll see my original profile info below, I'm quite happy to say the last 3 years have been wonderful. I've met so many great people, both here and on my travels. Having me as your host, will certainly make your life easier here in the Big Apple. Pleasure, business or both I'm happy to share my vast NYC knowledge with you.

June 1, 2010: As a long time resident of NY, I've been living in NYC for the past 5 years, but grew up in the suburbs about 30 miles east on Long Island. Currently, I'm working as an Interior designer / General Contractor with an emphasis on performing the finish work myself and crew(s).

After traveling all around the U.S.A. for a Sales job for a few years after graduating college, I've learned a ton about the hospitality business, traveling in general and have how to treat people by doing my very best to surpass expectations. I provide excellent customer service, clean rooms in a great neighborhood, all in a beautiful apartment in the best city in the world, New York City!

Bruce Weston purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Bruce Weston chose Alphabet City

After living in NYC since 2005 and moving to the East Village in 2008, I knew this was home for me. I love food and a relaxed environment, which the East Village surely is. But fear not any action, as there's plenty in any direction from here, buy yet, I'm on a quiet street for sleeping. What's unique about this building, is that it has an elevator. Most buildings in the East Village are pre-war, so that means 5 or 6 floor walk-up. This building, used to be a school in the 70's, but was purchased and remodeled into 225 unit apartment building, completed early 2000's.

What makes this apartment unique

24 hour doorman

Roof Terrace (shared with all in building) with spectacular views!

Gym + Laundry room in basement of building

Accommodating in spite of delay in arrival. Everything was ready for us - even breakfast fixings. Allowed us a late checkout. Very pleased & will use again.

Large and convenient location for us

The apartment was furnished for guests who enjoy TV and beer. We would have liked a few more amenities like coffee and tea cups and bedside lamps.

Family-friendly, great location!

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 6 - including a 9 year old and a 6 month old - enjoyed a wonderful 5 days in NYC at this property. It was very quiet, yet close to subway lines and oodles of delis and shops close by. We "ate in" almost every evening, because the kids don't share the same excitement as adults of NYC nightlife. Some was delivered, some we picked up on our own. Even with the two kids, we walked a lot, and the proximity to 1st Ave was helpful. Grandma & grandpa slept comfortably on the sleeper sofa, the 9 year old "princess" had the smaller BR, and mom & dad shared the other BR with the 6 mo old in a Pack n Play (furnished by Bruce). Bruce gave us very helpful advice abouit places to go, when to arrive, etc., that added to our fun. Considering that we spent less than the cost of two hotel rooms in the center of Manhattan, we feel we also got good value. Not quite as comfy as our own home (and beds), but very good for the cost we incurred.

Great location, safe and warm but could use a little attention

  • 3 of 5

The East Village is a great neighborhood, easy to get around, lots of restaurants, bars, stores within easy walking distance. The subway is two blocks away, taxis and Uber are always available. Bruce's two bedroom condo was fine, it had the basics and was clean, warm and we always felt safe. He leaves you what you want for breakfast, which is a nice touch.

However, if you tried to put 4 people in this space, it would be very crowded. Forget about trying to squeeze in 5 or 6. First, there is no place to sit and eat a meal except at a tiny bar with 3 barstools very close together. There is one bathroom, so you have to be happy to share that bath. The bedrooms are big enough but each has only one side table, so if there are two people in each bedroom, only one person has a table for a lamp, for a water glass, etc. The living area has one couch and a nice TV. The kitchen is minimally equipped: there is not a frying pan bigger than 7 inches, so you can't fry bacon unless you cut it into pieces. There is one small cooking pot, one large pot. The coffee pot makes enough coffee for two people. There are no wine glasses, just a lot of beer glasses. No tin foil, no plastic wrap, no spices, no storage containers so if you have leftovers, you are out of luck. So although it has a kitchen, it isn't really set up for cooking other than perhaps scrambling eggs. (Not that you want to eat in when in NYC but sometimes it's nice to at least have the option.) When we arrived Bruce assured us a plumber was coming to fix the toilet, which ran constantly (what a huge waste of water) but that plumber never arrived. We ended up turning the water off to the toilet when we left the house as to not waste the water. (We in California are very conscious about wasting water, of course, due to the 5 year drought.)

Again, we liked the place and we loved the East Village. But for less than $500, Bruce could make the flat so much better, cozier, (better bed covers, for example, instead of those shiny ones that belong in a motel), a few extras in the kitchen, a bathmat that doesn't look like it had bleach spilled all over it, maybe an unused bar of soap. It's those little things that make you love where you stay. I would go back to the East Village in a heartbeat but would probably try a different place to stay.

Quiet 2 bedroom in East Village, NYC

  • 5 of 5

We just finished renting a wonderful true 2 bedroom in the East Village. We couldn't have stayed in a better place. It came fully furnished with plenty of towels, sheets, paper products and kitchen accoutrements. We loved that they had lots of reading lamps throughout and two comfortable beds, with TVs in every room. We especially appreciated having an eating area in the kitchen and a living room to hang out in. The hosts were easy to work with and responsive throughout our stay. Plus, they asked what breakfast foods we wanted and already had the refrigerator stocked with food for us. The apartment was in the back and extremely quiet. Air conditioning very welcomed during the 95 degree heat wave. An additional perk was the elevator, so no schlepping bags up 3 flights of stairs. Located just 2 blocks to the L subway line, so easy to come in from JFK. We never heard the neighbors. Very clean. Would definitely stay here again.

The highly desired EAST VILLAGE neighborhood is quite lively after the sun goes down. The East Village has been heavily built up over the last 10 years and located on the East side of Manhattan from 14th St down to Houston (same as street zero) which borders the LES (Lower East Side). Tompkins Square Park is 2 blocks away.

The East Village offers over 400 restaurants, cafes, bars and shopping along with a beautiful Tompkins Square Park which has a few playgrounds for kids, basketball courts, dog run and plenty of benches and grassy areas to relax and catch some sun or live music as there are free concerts on weekends and usually daily jazz musicians just enjoying making music. You can walk to Italian, French, Indian, Mexican, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vegetarian and American restaurants within a 5 block radius. If you're too tired and beat up from touring NYC and don't feel like going anywhere, you can simply order in and have anything delivered to the apartment (usually until 11 pm or midnight). Just about all of these privately owned restaurants are MUCH better than midtown/tourist-trap food chain restaurants that over charge for mediocre food and drinks. There are at least three 24/hr places to eat within 2 blocks. About 90% of the buildings in the area are walk-ups and this building has an elevator and is wheelchair accessible. There are about 50 restaurant/bars/cafe's within a 3 block radius, along with shopping and Union Square is only a 10 minute walk.

Times Square (City Center) is about a 30 minute walk or 10-15 mins by subway.

Empire State Building is 20-25 minute walk or quick subway or taxi.

Downtown (Freedom Tower, Statue of Liberty, Wall St., etc.) is a quick 15-20 minute subway ride or 45 minute walk, or 20-30 minute bus ride.

Central Park is about 20 minutes by subway.

Getting Around

There is subway (L train) that is 2 blocks away (2 minute walk) that can bring you to Union Square (2 quick stops) to trnsfer to any other line to get anywhere else in NYC, Brooklyn or Queens. Williamsburg is a quick 8 minute ride and one stop away.

There is a Bus on the corner, which is less than a minute walk.

And you can get a taxi pretty much any time on my block within a few minutes.

Personally, I recommend walking to your destination, as it takes 20-45 minutes to get anywhere in NYC, FROM anywhere in NYC whether you walk, take a subway, taxi or bus. , Walking is free, healthy, the safest way to travel, plus you get to see cool things along the way by walking. If you're tired, take a taxi back home.

As the Subway is so close, it's really only worth it for long trips (UWS, Brooklyn, Queens or Staten Island) as you could probably walk to your destination in less time if you account for waiting for the train, going under/above ground with the crowds, etc..

AIRPORTS (JFK, Newark or LaGuardia) all are 30-90 minutes from my building, after your plane lands, depending on customs and traffic.
