Paradise tucked away in the Hills of Costa Rica.
We stayed at the Villa for 7 days. I will say that getting up to the house can be a little daunting if you are packed car of people and luggage. The roads are very steep and require much attention. You will definitely need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. However, the drive up is definitely a fair exchange for the view. Waking up everyday and walking out to see the spectacular infinity pool, lush greenery, butterflies playing in the yard, and ultimately the bright blue ocean beaming back at you over rolling hills was something that made this place very hard to leave. We cooked quite a few days and the kitchen had everything we needed. The only issues we faced with the home was showering; it was a little tricky to get hot water downstairs and the water pressure upstairs was temperamental. There were a few bugs in the living room, but you are practically in the jungle so it was nothing we weren't prepared for, and not overwhelming by any means. This also meant though you caught great glimpses of lizards, butterflies, and iguanas in the backyard. Over all the home was lovely and comfortable. The pictures are true to the homes beauty. As for leaving the home, with the condition of the roads around it did take us at least 35-40 minutes to get anywhere close (i.e. playa negra, tamarindo). I am not sure if that was just due to the rainy season or not. We rented a car from Diego and it worked out alright. Diego was great, always has a smile! He transported us to and from the airport, informed us of Costa Rica and all it had to offer, even drove out to meet us when we had a flat tire and had it fixed within a few hours. He went above and beyond and we really appreciated him. Anna was so much fun to have around. She has a wonderful sense of humor, is a great cook(ask her for a costa rican dinner!), and although she doesn't speak english we had no problem communicating with her(even with our lack of good spanish). She came MWF and made the house immaculate! She swept, cleaned, did laundry, mopped..you name it. On one of our last days Carol, Andreas' wife came by the guest house and chopped down coconuts from the trees for each of us and prepared them to drink from. That was so cool!! Overall this was a perfect place to really get a true feeling of living in Costa Rica. The home is tucked away in a remote area that is very quiet, relaxing and beautiful. We had a great time for our first trip to the country of Costa Rica! Until next time. Pura vida!
Beautiful Home with wonderful service
Our multigenerational family of 8 ranging from 4 to late 60's spent two lovely weeks at Villa Meridiana. The home is truly stunning, and very spacious. Watching amazing sunsets each evening and listening to the jungle come alive at dusk was one of our favorite things about the home, and certainly not something you could experience in a more populated area or hotel. Anna was sweet and hardworking and we enjoyed visiting with her on her days at the house, or at least trying to talk! My spanish is not great, nor is her English, but she was still lovely to chat with (and she cooks a fantastic traditional Costa Rican meal if asked)
Diego was very attentive prior to and during our trip and was very helpful in getting multiple adventures lined up in advance for us, which was much appreciated. We did have a few issues during our stay which I will warn future travelers of. This home is quite a ways up in the hills, which is one of the features we loved, but not far from some lovely beaches and in easy day trip distance to most adventures you could want to do.
We loved visiting Lolas and the surrounding beach to the north and to the south San Juanillo is beautiful. The nearest restaurant, Los Tuquitos, was recommended by Diego. The pork there is AMAZING and I fell in love with this strange beet/potato salad that I cannot wait to try making now that I'm back at home. Also, eat all the pantacones you can get a hold of, they are delicious! They have them at Los Tuqitos and Anna makes some that are superb. I bought plantains shortly after arriving home and am excited to try to make some!
My only complaint of the property would be that the plumbing and water could really use some updating. We had issues with a couple of the toilets (admitteldy at least partially our fault - you cannot flush toilet paper and I think our young children had a difficult time remembering). Taking showers was quite difficult with the poor water pressure in the upstairs master bath, and the hot/cold water in the main bathroom tub functions poorly causing users to choose between either scalding water or a dribble of cold. I did mention these issues to Diego upon our departure and have confidence he will address them promptly.
All in all this was a great home and suited our need and desires.
Espectacular, tranquila, segura y privada
Pura Vida - and Villa Meridiana is the place to experience it!
Every detail of this beautiful home - from the lovely Spanish tile to the well placed hammock - charms the traveler, and invites one to settle in to the rhythms of the forest. Our family spent a delightful holiday with this as our home base for exploring all the Guanacaste area has to offer, from zip lining through the canopy to snorkeling off the headlands north of Tamarindo. Just hanging around the house, with its spectacular setting high above the forest and its ocean views, was a big part of each day. Local produce stands and markets kept us well supplied, and there are many restaurants serving both local cuisine and even Italian style pizza within a short drive. Perhaps our best meal was when we engaged Anna, who is an excellent housekeeper, to cook for us what we brought home - fantastic ceviche, fried fish, guacamole (never had it before with boiled eggs, but we will again!), and best of all, tostones! Everyone associated with the Villa, with a major thanks going out to Diego, went out of their way to make our visit one we will not forget, and a great family memory.
We had the most incredible time at Villa Meridiana. Everything was perfect. The photos of the house do not do the house justice it is even more beautiful in person. It is in perfect condition and everything you could possibly need or want is on the property. Including the most wonderful cat Mimi, she made the experience even more special. We were 20 min to the most beautiful beaches and activities by way of our 4 x 4 vehicle which is a must to access the property but well worth it. The home was private and safe to a fault. There was wild life everywhere, the monkey's outside of our kitchen door were a real treat. The swimming pool was just the right size and many of our days were spent just lounging around by the pool. The property manager and house staff could not of been more accommodating and took care of anything you needed. They arranged transportation to and from the airport and set up the many activities we did while staying at Villa Meridiana. I have already recommended the home to many of my friends and would absolutely stay here again! Thank you for the wonderful vacation!

lovely villa in the mountains
Villa Meridiana was a perfect spot for our family vacation. Top of our list was the gorgeous pool and grounds. the house was clean and well maintained. Diego the property manager was fantastic! He was there with answers to questions and was a great host throughout our visit.
Plenty of room for all, the kitchen had all the basics provided to prepare meals. Though a bit of a drive to the beaches, Villa Meridiana was centrally located to all the places we wanted to visit; Playa Avellanas and Marbella for surfing and Pura Aventura (Diego works there) for a top-notch zip line experience. were our favorites. Be sure you have a 4WD vehicle, the road to the house (as with many Costa Rican roads) is an adventure.
Overall a great stay, we all enjoyed immensely!
