About Tom & Leann Howard

We are Tom and Leann Howard and have two adult children and a few Boxers. Our son John is the oldest and our youngest is daughter, Jessica. This Craftsman Style Cabin was constructed by us, the Owners.

It has taken a few years and we are so excited to finally be able to share it with others! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Tom & Leann Howard purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Tom & Leann Howard chose Hot Springs

We fell in love with the property because of the beauty and abundance of outdoor activities available. Where else can you enjoy the River and Mountains and have the quaint town of Hot Springs nearby and also a short drive to Asheville, NC.

Tom grew up camping in Paint Creek (Just down the road from the Cabin) as a child and spent many summers swimming in the clear cold water and hiking the many trails that the Cherokee National Forest offers. We accidentally stumbled upon this spot on a full moon night after a visit to the Hot Springs Spa Hot Tubs. We fell in love with this spot and couldn't get it out of our minds. It is an amazing place to decompress and enjoy family and friends.

What makes this cabin unique

River front, private, large outdoor living space with room for several tents in the summer if needed. Also access to 5 acre common area that has pavilion and fire pit and ability to pull out larger rafts there. Common area is owned by 6 different owners inc. us and if you happen to meet them they are a cool bunch to get to know. "There are some restrictions to use of common area." Great place to ride Bicycles, walk, hike, sit around and play music and get inspired by nature. Avid bird watchers tell us that this area is a local hot spot for bird watching. Short drive to Asheville and about an hour and a half to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the areas of Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and theme park, Dollywood.

Peaceful. Beautiful home.

This house is beautiful, clean and well maintained. We enjoyed our stay! The river views are wonderful and we saw a lot of different species of birds as well as tons of bunnies! The 'one-and-a-half' lane mountain road in took some getting used to for this city-girl but it was worth it. If you want an unplugged digital free vacation - this is the place to be. Limited Wifi in the house allowed us to check our email and look up restaurants but that is about it. The dish worked great to watch some shows on a stormy evening. All in all we loved this house and Hot Springs. We will be back.

My husband wanted to buy it.

  • 5 of 5

We came to celebrate our anniversary and the house was perfect in every way. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of lifes anxieties, with moderate seclusion, yet still be able to grab a quick bite to eat, then this is the perfect escape. It was just the two of us, but there was plenty of room for another couple. The home is exactly as pictured but better in person, when you see the attention paid to fine and subtle details. very well constructed. The floors are beautiful. The bathrooms are large and nicely done. The showers easily accommodates two. There is no tub, which wasn't an issue for us. We had plenty of towels and wash clothes. The beds are comfortable. I slept well. The wrap around porch is amazing. It is very spacious with a picnic table to enjoy meals and offers fantastic views of the river. Every evening and early morning we had rabbits visit. We also spotted a family of deer in a near by field, and on our last day, was fortunate enough to see a black bear swimming in the river. The evening light show put on by lightning bugs was pleasant and reminiscent of my early childhood days. I really enjoyed it because i haven't seen lightning bugs in years.

We loved everything about the home, my only suggestion would be: to cut back some of the brush and river bank grasses for a clearer, more open river view. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back again.

Fun getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was brief, but enjoyable. The house was on a private stretch of the road with nice river views. Convenient access to the Pisgah National Forest, waterfalls, hiking trails, water adventures and more. We enjoyed our time on the wrap around porch watching the river flow, while beating our kids at Foosball ;-).

Sweet dreams

  • 5 of 5

It was rustic and homey. We really enjoyed the house being on the river and were very lucky to have nice weather along with a bon fire every night seeing stars without any lights obscuring our view. The craftsmanship of the cabin was very detailed and functional. Most every household items you could need was on site. There were lots of things to do close by. We enjoyed hiking and scenic driving. We would love to stay again!!!!

A week here was just what the doctor ordered! Great cabin and very good hiking in the area. Town of Hot Springs is a very good time, with plenty to do to entertain yourself. Food was over the top at every location we ate. I would strongly recommend this cabin and location. Owners we're outstanding in all aspects. Be ready to relax to the 24 hour sounds of the French Broad.

Didn't Want to Leave

  • 5 of 5

We met my brother and his wife, who live in Florida, because NC is half-way between there and PA. After we arrived we spent most of our time sitting on the amazing porch, mesmerized by the sounds of the French Broad River flowing past the front yard. There wasn't a neighbor for miles. The town of Hot Springs is 6 miles away and very convenient for food and dining. Asheville is about an hour away.

The cabin itself is modern and clean and comfortable. The bed in the upper bedroom looks out on a an upstairs balcony where you can sit and look at the stars at night. There is a modern kitchen and bathrooms.

Five nights is far too short a time to do and see all there is to see even in the immediate area of the cabin. But we found that we preferred just to sit on the porch and relax anyway. We would definitely go back.
