Great Mountain Location with Panoramic Views of lake and mountains

Eagles Nest vacation rental home is a true mountain location with panoramic views of Columbine Lake, the West Needles Mountains & Hermosa Cliffs north of Durango Colorado, about a 5 minute drive to Purgatory Resort from this Bavarian styled chalet.

In winter (November through April), It is NECESSARY that you have a four-wheel-drive vehicle, a vehicle with medium to high clearance and winter/snow tires.

This 3 bedroom home is nestled in the trees overlooking Columbine lake near Purgatory Resort. Sleeps 10, 6 adults and 4 children, in 3 bedrooms with a king , a queen and two twin beds as well as 2 sets of bunk beds tucked in the office that are perfect for children. Great open living space perfect for family gatherings. plus a cozy den and an indoor hot tub with a shower. Great wrap around deck with a grill and deck chairs.

The Space:

This mountain home is large enough to comfortably sleep ten people and accommodate the same with a large kitchen, dining and living rooms, plus a very large wrap-around deck for great outdoor living space with huge, panoramic views of mountains and lake. The den is separate from the great room and main living spaces affording a secondary room for guest comfort.

The master bedroom includes a king bed and gas fireplace. Also on the upper level is an office with computer desk sofa and cozy in-closet bunks for the kids. On the main level there is a bedroom with one queen bed and another private bedroom with two twin beds. A full bath with dual vanities and an additional powder room service the main level bedrooms and living space.

Guest Access:

Guests have full access to the entire home and grounds surrounding the house.

Interaction with Guests:

Concierge services available and manager is on call when guests are present.

This a true mountain getaway with modern comforts in a location that is convenient to all high mountain activities in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado.

Eagles Nest was a great place for the family to enjoy the Durango/Purgatory/Silverton area.

We needed a place large enough for three generations. We wanted to be close to Purgatory, to enjoy the summer activities but also easy access to Durango and Silverton/ Ouray areas. The property exceeded our expectations. The views were fantastic! Would like to return to the Eagles Nest someday. Great memories!

Christmas Vacation

Great house! Plenty of room! We loved the location. The property managers even set up a Christmas Tree for us prior to our arrival. Drive way is very steep, but well maintained and kept free from snow (as best as possible). Great communication with the property manager prior to our arrival and during the stay. Couple things we didn't like was televisions and lights. My family is TV watchers - and there is only one TV in the house, in the den. Being the holiday season, the girls like to watch Hallmark and the guys want to watch the bowl games. Granted, we were out doing stuff most of the time, but when we were at the house we would have liked TVs. Second thing that we found confusion was the light switches. Took us a while to figure out where to turn on what and the lights were limited. Now, with that said - during the day - you didn't need the lights. There were WONDERFUL views with the huge windows. The great room was AMAZING. Huge windows with views of the valley. Fireplace was great and we had plenty of wood available. Master bedroom was HUGE and very nice. Location is great, if you are a skier. Its literally a mile from Purgatory. For us, we went into Durango every day - which is a 20 mile drive. Still, not a bad drive as it is very scenic. There is a convenience store just a mile away and there is a bar/grill very close also. Overall, we would definitely recommend this place and if we go back to Durango, would stay here again!

Real Life Snow Globe

Our stay at Eagle's Nest was fantastic. The house itself lives up to the online photos and is actually more beautiful in person. The interior is very comfortable and the art and decorations in the house are spectacular. I felt like I was staying at a friends home instead of a rental, because they haven't put any of the "nice things" away and that makes it feel more even more homey. We were there the week before Christmas and when we arrived there had been quite a bit of snow in the area. When we drove into the neighborhood it was like driving into a snow globe. The trees were laden with snow and the view out of the picture windows in the back of the house is the most beautiful winter scene I have ever experienced. The picture windows all have window seats so you can sit there and take in the view in comfort. The kitchen was very well stocked and the layout of the house made it very livable for 9 people. We never felt like we were cramped and were able to spread out and enjoy the solitude. The drive to the Purgatory Ski Resort is about 4 minutes, so the location for people who are skiing is ideal. The drive to Durango is about 30 minutes, but it's a beautiful drive and the town is really charming. The only two downsides to the property are the driveway and the water heater. When we arrived we didn't have any trouble navigating the steep driveway because there was a layer of packed snow on top, and our AWD vehicle navigated it easily. The only problem was after the snow plow came and plowed the drive. Then it became like an ice rink and we couldn't walk down the drive without falling down, much less drive. We had one vehicle slide off the bottom of the driveway and we had to have it pulled out by a local man with a skid steer. 3 hours and $200 dollars later and it was out. From what we heard from the men pulling us out it is a very common occurrence at this property during the winter months, and they have had to pull people out many times. The only other downside was the hot water situation. There were lots of people taking showers and there was never enough hot water to go around. Someone always wound up taking a chilly one. Some shower scheduling had to be done to make sure everyone had warm showers. All that said, this is the most beautiful home in Colorado I have ever stayed in, and the winter wonderland we stared at for hours through the picture windows made it all worth it in the end. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing home with us

Great Thanksgiving getaway!!

We had a great Thanksgiving at this home!! Very well organized with clear instructions and information provided. While we were snowed in on Sunday (the driveway at the house is not plowed), we planned ahead and parked our car down the hill to make sure we could leave on-time. The house is warm and comfortable with an interesting layout. All the amenities needed were provided and the kitchen was very well stocked. The hot tub was great and was a must-have for our reservation. There are many animals hung on the walls around the house so take note if this would make you uncomfortable. It is a 30 minute drive to Durango and there is not much around the home besides nice walks and some hikes (what we were looking for). Thank you again!!

Owner's Response: Thank you Cort for writing the review. Normally the driveway is plowed but I think everyone was taken by surprise with this storm. We will check in to it to make sure they stay on top of it.
