The Perfect Paradise! We will be back to visit!!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and two friends just came back from Costa Rica, and I have to say that finding this amazing piece of paradise was one of the best things we ever did. We rented a 4-wheel-drive to get us there, and that was an adventure in itself! The pictures of the Oropendola House are gorgeous, but there is so much more beauty all around as well as in the small town of El Castillo. We had six people in the house, but could have easily had more. Very spacious and it has everything you need! If not, Agustin will get it for you!

After finding Nepenthe, and being welcomed by Augustin, we unpacked and went down to the Phoenix Restaurant, located on the property. WOW! Food, drinks and service was so amazing we went back several times over our 4 day stay. Thank you Juan and ladies cooking the food!

We ate breakfast everyday down at the Nepenthe Bed and Breakfast, and it was delicious every time! Odili, who cooked our breakfast, also came to the house our last night and made us a true, Costa Rican feast! Thank you Odili!!! It was Awesome!

Thanks to the onsite manager, Augustin, we got to hike La Fortuna Waterfall, visit the hot springs, go on an ATV tour and zip line.... all the activities were within 20 minutes. There are several animal conservatories close by. We saw over 30 monkeys climbing trees next to the Butterfly Conservatory. Thank you Augustin for setting everything up for us!!!

Gordan and Nancy, the owners, were staying at the B&B, so we got to meet them and hear about their amazing journey (the have also written it down for visitors). It was so nice to meet you both, and we will definitely be back to visit Nepenthe!

You truly have built a piece of heaven! Thank you for sharing it with us!!!

Beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

Overall excellent location and place to stay. Agustine and the staff were super responsive and attentive. Despite the location being a little rough around the edges, i.e. no AC, rough roads, and minor problems with electricity and water (note: these are regional problems not exclusive to just this rental/location) it was a great adventure and fantastic experience. Far away enough from the touristy crowds but close enough to enjoy all that Arenal has to offer. I can not thank Agustine enough for his attentiveness and focus on service. The breakfast was also fantastic every day we were there!

Fantastic view, great breakfast !

  • 5 of 5

We are a party of 10 and really enjoyed our stay. The views were stunning, with plenty of room both inside and outside to sit and enjoy them. We enjoyed the breakfasts and found the staff very friendly and helpful. The private pool was a great addition. Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely the most perfect place to stay in the region!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the amazing view, the lovely house and the friendly groundskeepers. We were treated like royalty every day and treated to the tastiest breakfast too. This was our first stop in Costa Rica and had we known how wonderful it was we would have stayed longer. The breathtaking views, lovely home with plenty of amenities and refreshing pool were the things dreams were made of. Agustin shared his knowledge freely and gave us great recommendations for expeditions as well as restaurants. This beautiful property is tucked away in the heart of the region with views that bring your soul to life.

The property was clean and the directions were accurate. There is an amazing restaurant on the property with lovely owners who are eager to please and happy to share their talent and love of cooking and hospitality. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Beautiful view!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed the Property. The first night we stayed in the B & B portion and then transferred to the house the next day. Augistin and the staff were very nice and accommodating. The view from the property is spectacular! The house is comfortable and spacious, but needs a little TLC. We were disappointed that the Jacuzzi and washer/dryer didn't work. The breakfast was very good. Overall a great place to spend a week!

Owner's Response: Thank you Judy for your comments, they help us improve the experience of future guests at our house. We are sorry that you could not enjoy the Jacuzzi, but we found the problem and it is now working, hopefully you can come visit us again and get the chace to relax on it. Also, washing machine and dryer are not open to guests use, in the future just ask for the service and we will be more than happy to help you! Thanks again. Agustin Piedra Manager

Secluded, yet so close...

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I just returned from a 4 day, 3 night stay at Oropendola home. Just like the first reviewer, we were hesitant to book, due to lack of reviews. Boy, we are sure glad we trusted our instincts! The home was way more space than we needed, but I would love to return one day to fill up the house with my/our family. Agustin, the manager, was prompt in emails and to address any needs we had during our stay, including arranging trips/tours. There is so much to do in the area, that a 10 - 14 day stay could easily be filled up with activities, or just lounging in the hammock, chairs, or pool. During our 4 day stay we zip lined, did a 3 mile nature hike, hot springs, La Fortuna waterfall, Arenal National Park, and took time to drive around El Castillo and get to know the locals and enjoy several of the restaurants available. The kitchen is fully equipped with anything you need, as well as the rest of the house. Included with your stay is a delicious, daily breakfast down at the B & B, Nepenthe, which is part of this property. We were VERY comfortable during the day and at night with the breezes blowing through the open (but screened) windows. There were ceiling fans throughout the home, as well. In fact, some of the nights were a bit chilly, leading to longer pajama pants....We also had one dinner at Agustino's restaurant, which was fabulous and is also on the property grounds. Everyone we met, from the owner to the property manager to the landscaper was so nice and accommodating. We traveled to La Fortuna one day to see the waterfall and visit the hot springs and we were so glad we chose to stay at Oropendola in El Castillo, since it is truly at sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of town. Where else can you awaken to the sounds of the local birds and howler monkeys? It was incredible! We even had a toucan in one of the trees in our yard. This was one of the best trips we have taken and will never forget. Thanks so much to everyone and we will see you again!! -Kari Highstead
