About the property

4 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8

This lovely house is spacious and while the setting is pastoral the house is very contemporary, well appointed, clean & tastefully decorated. Situated on 6 wooded acres, perfect for family vacations and lends itself well to entertaining small groups. The fully furnished downstairs is perfect for children with room for activities & play. There is plenty of space in this house for everyone to be together balanced with areas that give you the ability to have complete privacy.

Fabulous fully equipped chef's kitchen, including double ovens, new stainless steel refrigerator and dishwasher & large cook top island, with seating for 4, opens to a large comfortable living room with high ceilings & TV area. The kitchen is roomy and accommodates cooking at all levels.

There is also a BBQ grill available on a small outside back porch off the kitchen. There are glass sliding doors that lead from the kitchen area to a charming fully screened in porch, which is tucked into the trees giving you a feeling of being in a tree house with flickering views of Lake Garfield. Plenty of space for sitting and entertaining with inviting wicker couch, chair and chaise, plus two comfy chairs and ottoman. There's also a dining table for six people.

A great room and formal dining area includes a gorgeous farm table that seats 8 guests. Beautiful sunny room with super high ceilings and stone fireplace.

Comfortable and roomy seating area with two couches, rocking chair, recliner chair with ottoman & TV/stereo

First floor has the master bedroom with a queen size bed and a recently renovated full bathroom with a large walk in shower and double sinks.

Upstairs includes an open air office loft that give's you a bird's eye view of the house and views of the outside. Office is set up with high speed internet, wifi and printer/scanner/fax.

There are two guest bedrooms with queen size beds, full closets and high ceilings with fans. There is a full bathroom including a tub/shower located between the two bedrooms.

Finished downstairs area, newly renovated in 2015, includes a charming open living/recreational area with flat screen TV/stereo and a bedroom with two twin beds and a full bathroom with walk-in shower. This area is accessible from inside the house but very private from the rest of the home and has it's own access to the outside.

There are A/C units on each floor and large ceiling fans for cooling, however because of the elevation and shade of trees, this house stays relatively cool in the summer.

There is a washer & dryer downstairs in a laundry/utility room off of the living area.

A very private driveway leads you to a circular parking lot which accommodates 4-6 cars.

There is an outside shower at the back of the house available. Outside area has beautiful stone walks and plenty of places for outdoor seating on stone patios.

The house is partially handicapped accessible, please inquire for more details.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I hesitate to say what a fabulous time we had, because I'm afraid we won't

be able to find availability in the future. Our family of 5 adults and 1

child enjoyed a long weekend at this remote but luxurious house. 5 minutes

from a gourmet general store, and 15 minutes from "civilization" it was a

welcome retreat. Beds were comfy and despite hot and humid weather, we

stayed cool with the fans and A/C units provided. Of particular pleasure

was the best stocked kitchen I'd ever seen. Oxo utensils, German knives,

all the bowls, platters, pots, pans and silverware you could ever need. Our

only advice would be to stop at the large grocery store in Lee or Great

Barrington before arriving, then you won't be tempted to spend all your

money at the fabulous general store down the road (which closes at 6pm).

Save that place for when you're seeking out homemade soup, fancy cheese,

pies better than my mother makes, and gourmet chocolate - or when you run

out of eggs.

Warm, well-kept getaway

  • 4 of 5

We were pleased to find this well-appointed, thoughtfully furnished home in Monterey, MA. It was also helpful that the owners had organized help for managing the property who were extremely accommodating.

Four adults shared the house, and we had as much privacy as we needed to relax.

My only caution is that the house is indeed secluded which meant a lot of driving.

Owner's Response: We were happy to have your group as guests for the month of August. Part of the charm of Monterey, and this house, is that it's secluded & private, yet very close to all of the best attractions in the Berkshires.

Lovely, spacious wooded get-away with spectacular kitchen

  • 5 of 5

Six grad school roomates enjoyed a 30ish-year reunion at this glorious home tucked into a lovely wooded area. There was enough room for us to do a bit of work, take a few conference calls and best of all --- cook and eat and reminisce and laugh. The kitchen had all we needed in terms of utensils, and we loved the quality and style of the dishes and platters and cups and glasses. Definitely NOT picked up a KMart nearby. We also appreciated the welcoming bottle of wine from the owners and the Nespresso coffee pods. Chris was very helpful in providing info on hikes and restaurants nearby. We had an enjoyable trip to North Adams to see Williams College and spent hours as MASS MoCA. We highly recommend this home to others.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

The minute you drive up to the house, a smile will hit your face! From the beautiful perennial gardens that welcome you, to the airy, well-decorated post and beam home you walk into, you will be so happy you chose this place to stay.

The main level provides you with 2 large living areas. The first room you enter has a pot-belly, wood-burning stove, and is comfortably decorated. It opens into the well-appointed, spacious kitchen. The second living space is bright and welcoming. Plenty of seating surrounds a stone fireplace. A large dining table is the perfect compliment to the room. All the natural wood in this home is just beautiful!

Sitting on the porch is like sitting in nature with all the trees nestled around the property. The master bed & upstairs bedrooms are equipped with very comfortable beds. The lower level bedrooms -- the beds were not comfortable.

We were a group of 5 women who came together for a long weekend reunion. We loved Lake Garfield for swimming and relaxing and strolling through Great Barrington.

I would absolutely recommend this lovely home for any length of stay. You will not be disappointed!

Excellent - better than the photos

  • 5 of 5

We spent a 4-day summer weekend at the house which is much nicer, spacious and well-appointed than is conveyed by the photos. It was perfectly clean and the kitchen had more than ample dishes, cooking utensils, etc. which was important to us as we like to cook elaborate meals. The house provides great privacy; there are no other houses in sight (at least in the summer) and there are lots of rooms, and an enclosed porch if someone wants to do their own thing. The gardens as one enters are pretty but the outdoor area behind the house is small, not much if you have young children who want to play outside. But Garfield lake has a nice, family friendly beach and is very close, about a mile down the road. We went there every day. One drawback is that the soundproofing between the first floor bedroom and the bedrooms upstairs is poor. The bedroom on the ground level, however, is very private and quiet.

Wonderful family get away

  • 5 of 5

We rented the house for the month of August and had a wonderful time. It is a great family gathering spot - lots of places for people to sit and chat and a kitchen hat is well stocked. It's super close to he Monterey town beach as well. The hosts and caretaker were all incredibly nice and responsive. We miss this place already!
