Our house has been designed for discerning travelers and tourists who want to enjoy their trip or vacation in a total way. A real home with all the comforts and warmth of Sicilian hospitality. The house is located on the ground floor of a small building of the early '900, typical of the historical center of Catania. It has a small courtyard equipped for outdoor breakfast. Everything is at your fingertips, metro, buses, trains, shops, supermarkets, outdoor markets, sea, monuments, museums, restaurants, night clubs. You can stay in the center of Catania, enjoy the city or choose to do something different every day: sea, mountain, Taormina, Piazza Armerina and Siracusa Noto or other destinations of our beautiful island.
This was the best experience ever! The flat is wonderful, so clean, that You can almost eat from the floor :-). Everything what You need on Your holiday (and much more) is there! The owners gave us the water to drink, some pasta and sauce to eat, cosmetics to use, fresh and clean towels. The wifi was working there. The owners were always in contact with us, answering any questions. What was the biggest surprise, after our arriving, they took few hours and showed us the city, with mentioning the banks, the groceries, the best restaurants and bars, best ice cream, best place to buy vegetables and fruits, souvenirs and monuments.
Near the apartment there is a very big market and flea market, where You can buy just everything, including the best tomatoes ever!
Once again: thank You for the accomodation, sorry for writing so late, and I hope we will meet again!
The property is located in a residential area near to all amenities. We were welcomed by Marina the owner who took time to explain a bit about Catania and make some suggestions about visits which were very helpful.
The apartment is very well equipped indeed, everything you could think of is there and more. The accommodation is large and comfortable and very clean, there is plenty of room for 4. We were travelling as a couple so very spacious indeed.
Marina is an excellent representative of the accommodation and of Sicily. Etna is a must and the guides recommended by Marina are first class, she is easily contactable and responds to any queries and questions very promptly.
I'm not sure I have the date exactly right, but it was early December 2014. I stayed twice. . . first time for 5 days, then a few weeks later, for one night before a flight out of Catania. The apartment is lovely, clean and cozy. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to be self-sufficient. I appreciated also the little things made available, like spices, some pasta and sauce and cookies. The bedroom upstairs is small, but still very comfortable; feels like it cradles you. It is not a difficult walk for any healthy person to get to interesting attractions, markets and popular eateries and cafes. Marina, her husband and sister, were all very warm and welcoming and helpful with any questions and info requests. They were responsive in a timely way to any calls or texts. I would (and indeed have) recommended this apartment to others. I just how it's available when we have a family wedding in Catania in 2016.
My wife and I stayed here for a week in February 2014 and we loved the place. Not only was it clean and orderly but Marina was so helpful and friendly and struck the perfect balance. She was so kind as to pick us up and drop us off at the bus to go to the ferry to Malta. The place is so close to everything downtown and as we frequently took day trips on buses having all of the bus stations two minutes walk away was just great. The only problem was that there were too many pastry shops and we got hooked on cannoli. Too Good.
Just walking in the neighbourhood was fun and interesting. Lots of places to buy food to cook at home. Just great. We loved it there.
We have been renting houses and apartments in Europe for fifteen years and I can honestly say we have never had one as well-equipped or as spotless as Marina and Andrea's apartment in Catania. They were totally patient and welcoming despite our arriving six hours later than expected due to canceled flights, etc. Still, they took all the time we needed to fill us in on where things were and even joined us for dinner one night at their favorite local restaurant. Hospitality is a wonderful thing. Don't let the neighborhood put you off. Andrea explained that Sicilians feel little personal responsibility for the condition of public spaces but are meticulous about their own living quarters. On-street parking was free and easy around the apartment but not so much in town, so we never tried to drive into downtown ... but once we got oriented, we found most of the city was within reasonable walking distance, using the car just for day trips to Siracusa, Taormina and such. If our travels ever bring us back to Sicily, we'd stay here again in a heartbeat! BTW, when you're in the downtown area, you must stop by Dolci Nonna Vincenza. Their pastries -- especially the cannoli -- are to die for! It's an amazing transformation to go from the rugged street environment into the "grandmotherly" atmosphere of their shop.
We stayed for 3 nights in this immaculately clean and well-decorated apartment. It is located in a quiet neighborhood a five minute walk to the train/bus station, and a 10-15 minute walk to the center of Catania. Marina was waiting for us at the apartment when we arrived and walked through a map of Catania with us, plus some recommendations where to eat. She was also kind enough to leave some dry pasta with a bottle of Sicilian tomato sauce, and had two different sized espresso makers with plenty of grounds. The bed upstairs was extremely comfortable with a warm duvet and two pillows each. We had a late flight on our check-out day, and Marina was kind enough to let us store our luggage in the apartment rather than at the train station. We loved using the kitchen with its beautiful blue tiles, and minus a nasty bout of food poisoning (our fault for getting ground lamb at the downtown market) we had zero issues during our stay. This was our first time using HomeAway, and we had such a good experience with Marina that we will definitely use it again!
The house is located in a strategic position. In few minutes walking you can get: buses, taxis, trains, underground, sea, equipped beach, theater Massimo Vincenzo Bellini, Via Etnea, Piazza Duomo. Few minutes by taxi or bus to the airport and the port. The typical open markets are at walking distance. Less than an hour by car to get to Mount Etna.
