Superb spacious 73 square metre first floor apartment, south facing with superb outlook, well appointed for self catering but with the bonus facility of an excellent restaurant below that can provide breakfast and dinner. The accommodation comprises a reception hall, 2 double bedrooms, each with its own balcony and en suite bathroom, and a large living/dining/kitchen area (with 2 sofa beds). The kitchen area is fully fitted with a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, oven, hob and microwave. There is a large private sun terrace for the exclusive use of our guests. There is a sauna and fitness room for communal use in the basement of the premises. The apartment is located on the edge of the village just 300m from the local shops. In the village there is a wellness centre with a large outdoor swimming pool and extensive sauna, steam room and beauty treatment facilities. The area offers year round activities, with 4 local skiing areas (including snow sure Obertauern) with 300km of downhill skiing and extensive cross country skiing.

Additional Details: The rental of this apartment includes the use of the main property garden and a storage room for bicycles, etc.

There is a heated ski and boot room for communal use.

There is an excellent restaurant situated at ground floor level of the main property which offers breakfast, lunch and evening meals by arrangement with the proprietor, Albert Steiner.

The village is just 300m away and has 2 supermarkets, a post office, banks, hotels, bars, restaurants, several shops, and a 'wellness' centre with outdoor swimming pool and leisure facilities. There is an outdoor funpark on the edge of the village.

There is bicycle and ski and boot hire available in the adjacent village of Bruckdorf, (Pichler Sports, next to Billa supermarket), together with ski schools.

The excellent free local ski bus service serves all 4 of the local ski areas, including Obertauern - the bus stop is just 300m away near Adeg supermarket.

The Tourist Office in the town square has full details of seasonal activities and bus timetables.

Mountain Biking: Since 2001 the Lungau area has expanded its already substantial mountain bike network. Fifteen newly accessible, continuous, uniformly labelled mountain bike routes, covering a total length of over 560 km on diversified routes in Lungau’s mountains are waiting to be discovered. The quiet valley roads offer less strenuous biking for those who wish to conserve energy!

Amateurs and pros alike have over hundreds of kilometres to challenge in the mountains. You will be rewarded for your athletic efforts with the unforgettable experience of the province of Salzburg’s environment.

The climate of Lungau enhances your health! A holiday in Lungau is twice as healthy because of its location at an altitude of over 1,000 m above sea level. Most recent studies have shown that a vacation at this altitude has resulted positively on one’s health: the production of red corpuscles is stimulated and a longer vacation has proven sustained weight loss.

Bikes can be hired locally.

How to get there and other information: Budget flights are available from regional UK airports to Salzburg (125 km) and Klagenfurt (133 km), from where cars can be rented. Travel time is 1hour 15 minutes from Salzburg, 1 hour 25 minutes from Klagenfurt. Flights are also available to Munich, Innsbruck, Linz, Graz, Vienna, Venice, Trieste Ljubljana and Zagreb. Please note that a 'vignette' is required to travel on the motorways in Austria - these can be bought at petrol stations to cover various time periods. Typical cost is about 8 euros for a week.

Drivers should carry their driving licences in their cars - there is a 20€ fine for not being able to produce a licence on demand to the police!

Die Wohnung hat einen sehr schönen Grundriss. Der Wohn-essraum mit Küche ist sehr gemütlich eingerichtet und man hat einen sehr schönen Blick auf die Berge vom großen Erker aus. Die Wohnung ist freundlich und hell. Es ist sehr sauber. Der Raumservice ist gut. Im Haus ist ein Restaurant. Der Ortskern mit weiteren Gaststätten und einem Supermarkt ist 5-8 Gehminuten entfernt. Unsere Söhne, waren auch begeistert; vor allem als wir ihnen sagten, dass wir ein zweites Mal in das Apartement fahren würden. Empfehlenswert.

5 Sterne gebe ich gerne.

The apartment is supplied with linen and towels, at a rate of 7 Euros per person per week, and cleaning will also be carried out at the end of your stay at a charge of 45 Euros, all charged on site. There is also a small tourist charge of 1 Euro per day per person, payable on site. Breakfast is available daily in the restaurant beneath the apartment, as are evening meals. There are sufficient beds to sleep 8 in total, but a maximum of 6 would provide optimum comfort. The sauna and fitness room are available at a small charge on site.

Very spacious, clean & homely accommodation, perfect for our two young children & with all the kitchen equipment you could possibly need.

Food & hospitality from Hana & Albert downstairs was fantastic.

Would love to return in the ski season once our youngest is old enough!!

Great stay in Lungau

We enjoyed our stay a lot. The appartement is really spacious for two. The view from the appartment over the valley is great.Two south facing balconies are ideal for relaxing in the sun which often shines in Mariapfarr. The location is very good for hiking. A lot of tours starts near by. Albert and Hana Steiner provides and supports us whenever needed. The restaurant directly below the apparment offers a nice collection of typical and delicious austrian dishes. Also worth a visit is "Almstüberl" above Mauterndorf and also "Burg Mauterndorf" with museum and good restaurant.

Excellent accommodation close to Obertauern skiing

This is a first class apartment with beautiful views in a lovely part of Austria. Absolutely no hesitation in giving it a 5* rating. We stayed in the apartment for a late-season family skiing holiday earlier this year (2016). It was perfect for our family of four (two young children) and 2 grandparents - spacious, comfortable and warm, with a very welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant beneath the apartment, which offered freshly made local dishes, was very good, hospitable and extremely convenient!

It's an easy and picturesque drive to Mariapfarr from Salzburg airport. The village itself is around 15 or 20 minutes by car from the Obertauern lifts, but that's not a problem as it means you can see more of the area!

The skiing in Obertauern was ideal for our party - with plenty of snow (and sun) at the end of the season, and lots of variation for different levels of ability. Excellent ski school (Krallinger) for our children (ages 3 and 5) - attentive, flexible, small class size and great English tuition. A variety of valley walks and other options for non-skiers, including an indoor/outdoor pool in nearby Tamsweg.

We are hoping to return again next year, and would happily recommend the property and region to friends and family.

Marvellous holidays at Mariapfar

Dear Peter,

When we arrived in the area of Mariapfarr, we were surprise by the spectacular landscape. And more when we discovered the warm apartment in a nice sunny atmosphere. Besides, it's a big apartment. From the terraces, we could observe the landscape with the beautiful flowers at each windows of homes.

We were welcome by Anah. She's a very nice person. She speak English very well. We ate in her restaurant. The cooking is fabulous. I advice has everybody to spend a few days in your apartment and to taste the cooking of the restaurant of Anah and Robert.

Thank you very much Peter for your apartment and thank you very much to Anah, Robert and all their team.

Wonderful accommodation in a magnificent location

We loved our 7 night stay in the apartment. The accommodation was ideal for two couples and we all enjoyed waking up to magnificent mountain views, blue sky and warm sun.The accommodation has two south facing balconies and a separate sun terrace,ideal for a barbecue.We enjoyed the restaurant on the ground floor,the sauna and the hospitality of the proprietor Albert Steiner.

Our main objective was to enjoy the local walks and we experience six wonderful days walking and cycling in the Salzerburgerland region.We used ski lifts in Obertauern and Fanningberg to gain height and walk in the alpine meadows with the most amazing views.

The accommodation and the area is ideal for a most peaceful,yet energetic holiday break.

Sehr schöne Wohnung mit wunderbarem Ausblick

Wir (2 Erwachsene und 2 Kinder) haben unseren Aufenthalt in dieser wunderschönen Wohnung sehr genossen. Der Kontakt mit Peter vor Reiseantritt per Mail gestaltete sich nett und unkompliziert. Ebenso angetan waren wir von unseren Ansprechpartnern, Albert Steiner und dessen Partnerin, vor Ort. Bei Fragen hatten Sie immer ein offenes Ohr und auch bei einem Anliegen kümmerten Sie sich sofort darum. In der Wohnung haben wir uns sofort wie zu Hause gefühlt. Die Küche ist perfekt ausgestattet, optimal für Selbstversorger wie uns. Als besonderen Komfort empfanden wir die beiden Bäder, die an die jeweiligen Schlafzimmer angrenzen. So hatten sowohl unsere Kinder, als auch wir unser eigenes Reich.

Das absolute Highlight war natürlich der herrliche Blick, den man vom Wohnraum aus über die umliegende Landschaft genießt. Am letzten Abend haben wir und dann noch ein Abendessen im hauseigenen Restaurant gegönnt, welches auch sehr zu empfehlen ist.

Ein rundherum gelungener Urlaub! Wir kommen wieder!

In the holiday region of Lungau, Mariapfarr is recognized as the sunniest resort in Austria with a healing climate. Its stunning Taurach valley location at an altitude of 1100m also provides an abundance of snow for a wonderful winter experience. There is an abundance of prepared trails for skiing, cycling, walking and horse riding. There is also the terain for serious mountaineering and ski touring. The capital of the region is Tamsweg, just 6.5 km away, and offers many leisure activities and cultural events. There is an adventure pool with the longest 'black hole' in Austria. The beautiful city of Salzburg is only 75 minutes away by car and offers a plethora of culture as well as shopping in the unique old city and modern centres. Salzburg also boasts a fine selection of restaurants, and is of course the birth place of its most famous son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and is the home of 'The Sound of Music'.

Ski: The skiing here is an undiscovered gem - there are 4 separate ski areas totalling 300 km of piste runs, all reachable by the free ski bus service within 30 minutes, or less than 20 minutes by car. Obertauern is the most well known as being the most snow sure resort in Austria with a season extending from late November until early May. The other local areas of Fanningberg, Grosseck-Speiereck, and Aineck-Katschberg provide wonderful skiing on relatively empty slopes with an abundance of welcoming huts.

Cross-country skiing in snow-covered valleys and the sun shining in your face – that’s pure relaxation. And at the same time breathing in clear, healthy air and admiring the frost covered surroundings – that’s cross-country skiing in Ferienregion Lungau. There are also approximately 70 kilometres of skating tracks for skating enthusiasts. All together, the Lungau cross-country network encompasses 150 kilometres of well prepared tracks.
