Rancho Escondido features private, hacienda-style living in the coveted Bonanza Creek Ranch neighborhood just to the south of Santa Fe with easy access (15-20 min.) to the historic downtown plaza and quick access to the Albuquerque Sunport International Airport (45 min). Our home was built in the traditional pueblo style with thick adobe walls, plaster, wood ceilings and vigas, brick floors, and beautiful hand carvings throughout the house. The house is passive solar and has unique sun rooms and exposed adobe walls to capture the heat of the sun, keeping the house naturally warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Rich with cultural history, this horse property is the perfect getaway for visiting Santa Fe and northern New Mexico, fly fishing in the Pecos River (fly fishing guides available), hiking and mountain biking in the National Forest, a long-term or short-term artist or writers retreat, or month-to-month rental while you move into the area.
Rancho Escondido is fully furnished with locally made, artisan furniture and decor. The living room features a wood stove that fully heats the home throughout the winter (central heating and air conditioning available as well), handmade windows and doors throughout, and all of the comforts of home. The fully stocked kitchen includes a Cuisinart coffee maker (w/ organic, locally roasted coffee), dishes, cookware, and partially stocked pantry (organic rice, noodles, popcorn, oatmeal, sugar, cream, etc.). Guests will enjoy in Farmers Market tokens to enjoy and taste our locally grown produce at the famous market on Saturday mornings. Walk out the kitchen onto a covered patio with outdoor dining and a Weber BBQ - great for parties and entertaining. The Master bedroom features a locally made King bed, full closet, TV, and beautiful master bathroom. The room is built in traditional passive solar with an exposed adobe wall and small doors to open and close to control the heat. The two guest bedrooms feature queen beds, goose down comforters, organic linens, a closet. Both guest bedrooms have a loft area – one with a Queen mattress and one with a Queen air mattress. The passive solar sun room features a flagstone rock floor, hand crafted window and doors, a locally made sofa bed (twin), and additional eating area. The Dining Room features all antique furniture with easy access to the kitchen and sun room. A flagstone walkway leads you through the backyard to a garden area, basketball court, and outdoor entertaining. The backyard features an outdoor fireplace with rock seating.
The ranch (5 acres) includes a horse barn and is situated among the largest horse properties in the area. Horse boarding is an option for guests who want to bring their horses. You can ride from the property. Please inquire about fly fishing guiding services in the nearby Pecos River. The property is well situated for winter skiing at Santa Fe Ski, fly fishing and hunting nearby, and enjoying the cultural events that Santa Fe has to offer (Indian Market, Spanish Market, Fiestas, etc.). Rancho Escondido offers a secluded and private oasis, yet is only a quick 15 minute drive to the historic plaza and downtown Santa Fe. Perfect writers or artists retreat with nature as your muse!
Born and raised on a diary farm in Iowa, I am a 7th generation farmer that understands the value of working the land and has deep roots as a community builder. Continuing in my family tradition of social entrepreneurship, I have built a consulting business for the past 11 years to write federal grants and secure the resources necessary to address food security, health, and economic development through a Health and Wellness Community model. My two beautiful daughters (Sofia - 4 years; Marisol - 2 years) have traveled with me on over 50 round-trip flights to communities across the nation where we work to build a culture of health. The girls and I have traveled to over 11 countries together studying models of community health improvement that could be replicated here in the U.S. We love traveling and hope that you are able to enjoy our home as we have for the past four years. This home will always have a special place in our hearts. We know we will move back one day and hopefully continue the practice of growing our own food and living from the land. This property is located near the famous 26,000 Bonanza Creek Ranch and several "old town" movie sets. You can often see movies being produced in the area and even go see the set if its not closed. This area is considered the historic Turquoise Trail and there are many art studios, historic sites, and towns along the route that have a rich history of northern New Mexico. Visit the historic town of Cerrillos and Madrid, along the Turquoise Trail, and only 10-20 minutes from the house. A great destination to explore the area!
Beautiful adobe style hacienda! Absolutely loved the location. Close to all you want to do whether it was in Santa Fe or Albuquerque, but away from the city crowd. The house was comfortable and true to description. Easily accommodated the six of us plus another 3 family members that would join us for dinner some evenings. We watched the sunrise every morning while drinking coffee. The house is fully stocked via kitchen, bath and bedrooms. The owners were extremely accommodating and easy to work with. We are looking forward to coming back this summer.
PS... Great little restaurant down the road. San Marcos Cafe. Be sure to go there at least once for breakfast during your stay.

This house is very clean, fully stocked, spacious, and beautiful views. I would definitely rent this house again!!!!!
This enormous and beautiful home is well-priced and can accommodate families quite well. The property is surrounded by valley and mountain views with great sunrises and sunsets and a billion stars in the night sky. It is also the quietest place I've ever been. The bed was extremely comfortable and the living room, where we spent most of our time, simply a welcoming and warm place to gather. The kitchen was spacious and extremely functional with everything needed to cook a gourmet meal.
The home was clean and ready for guests. We had no issues with the property. I highly recommend this for couples and families looking for a quiet place that seems far away from the world, but is fifteen minutes from shopping and most everything you may need.

This is the best rental we have ever had! It was immaculately clean and had all the comforts of home. Monica was a pleasure to rent from; she was very friendly. The house was the perfect size and had accommodations for all of our children ranging from toddlers to teenagers. There was plenty of room for everyone and the property is absolutely gorgeous. We loved every second we stayed there.
