Tranquillity and beyond

  • 5 of 5

Came across this little jewel whilst travelling around Texas from Liverpool, England. Stayed for a total of 4 nights whilst exploring the wonders of the Big Bend National Park. Our cabin was immaculate with the comfiest of beds. The temperatures in July were challenging to say the least for us Brits but the giant wind fan and air con unit was well received. Great market nearby called Cottonwood too. There is no price you can place on feeding one's soul and in our opinion this cabin is worth its weight in gold. Great views, great sleeps and an excellent escape from the rat race. Karen it was a delight to meet you.

Cute spot, convenient to Big Bend and Terlingua

  • 5 of 5

Karen's place was pretty much perfect for what we needed to be able to go in and out of Big Bend (national and state parks), as well as see around Terlingua - very close to the little restaurants and stores in town!

Attentive hostess full of kindness

  • 5 of 5

Karen was most attentive to anything we might need. It was fun to watch her sit on the front porch at the Hardware store and visit with her customers. We brought most of our meals precooked and frozen so all we had to do was heat them in the microwave. When we needed more frig/freezer space for our waters/teas, Karen let us use the one in her bbq trailer. Since there was no kitchen sink, we had fun washing dishes in the bathtub and using my dish drainer. Yes, we did have flickering electricity the three nights it rained, but it was never off for long and added to the adventure of being remote. It was nice to have a whole week without television. The wifi made it possible to get and make calls and to read emails on Ipad so we weren't totally out of range to be contacted.

We enjoyed this porch with small table for my husband to read outside. The orange chairs were even more comfortable. One night we woke up at 5 something and went outside to see the stars after the moon had moved away. I just drank in the night sky. What a beautiful creation the Father has made for His children to enjoy!

Grace, the neighbor, was also kind to let us use her washer before we left.

We enjoyed the Ghost town in Terlingua, various hikes in Big Bend, and even a mishap in the Hot Springs that meant a trip to the ER in Alpine where all the staff were kind and attentive. The staff at City Drug in Alpine were most helpful with the prescriptions we needed to fill before returning to our vacation.

We would definitely book to stay with Karen again. The drive down 118 is gorgeous. We had never come to Big Bend using this western route but it is our favorite now. We returned to the Metroplex through San Anglo using 67 and 377. We were surprised how nice that drive was compared to using I-20 which was more familiar. Most of the time the speed limit was 75, except through the small towns. We made good time, except for long stops at Wal-Mart.

Perfect location for Big Bend

  • 5 of 5

This place is cute as a button! We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We were within minutes of the Big Bend gate. Laundry and grocery are pretty close, just down the street. Karen was easy to reach with any questions we had. We would stay again and strongly recommend this property.
