Why Steve and Cynthia Chauvin chose Louisiana

Steve and Cynthia bought the initial property that became the Rosebarn after Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005. This property holds special meaning to them and their family (and dogs!) as it was a safe haven for them during the Katrina aftermath and clean up. There was a tremendous amount of creativity and thought put into the renovation to maintain the character of the building.

Beautiful setting, quirky house, great experience

  • 5 of 5

We had two families, 4 kids and 4 adults. The house is fun with a trap door leading to the two bedrooms downstairs. The fireplace, kitchen and sitting area were all great. The upstairs loft was many degrees warmer than the downstairs bedrooms but it was manageable. The dock and the location on Lake Rosemound is serene and we all loved it. We hike in Tunica Falls and spent some time in St. Francisville. Great location. We had a blast!

Family New Year's Eve

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay with our two young sons (3 and 2) who loved exploring the house and grounds. It was such an easy, relaxing vacation for us all especially with how they have everything set up and ready to go: beds made up, tons of towels, kitchen is completely stocked with cooking supplies, washer and dryer are available if you need them, fire pit outside, surround sound inside and out. It was a wonderful getaway for us, and there are a lot of sites (several plantations, Afton Villa Gardens, downtown St. Francisville) all within a short drive. We want to go back soon!

Gorgeous and relaxing fall break

  • 5 of 5

This was the most perfect place to simply get away for the weekend. It was quiet and relaxing with an immense amount of space, we absolutely loved. The on the lake dock was perfect for morning coffee and the backyard was great for a relaxing evening.

I will recommend this place for any of my colleagues and friends!

Family Christmas

We enjoyed our stay very much. The house was large enough to accommodate our large family. The grounds were perfect for our exploring grandchildren. We have recommended this home to friends and would love to stay there again.

The Rosebarn is located 45 minutes north of Baton Rouge on gorgeous Lake Rosemound. The Rosebarn is the perfect location for relaxing and leaving the work week behind you. It is a great place for bird watching (as it is on a bird sanctuary), biking, taking leisurely walks, spending time with friends and family in a quiet country setting. Come host a girls get away, a biking trip, a board meeting, a crawfish boil or a family reunion; the Rosebarn is spacious and stunning. It was renovated and designed by New Orleans architect, Steve Chauvin; and the house boasts a huge loft, spiral staircase, a gallery of windows and a gourmet kitchen with top of the line appliances. There are wrap around porches, a huge second story deck and a dock situated on the water. It is the perfect location for sharing a glass of wine at dusk, having breakfast while watching the birds or just getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The home is 20 minutes north of historic St. Francisville and its plantation homes, gardens, restaurants and antique shops. Rosedown plantation boasts a stunning home with gardens designed after the Gardens of Versailles The Myrtles plantation which is considered one of America's most haunted homes offers tours as well as fine dining. Audubon Plantation home is also 20 minutes away and the site where James Audubon, artist/naturalist, was thought to have drawn some of his work.

For the outdoor experience, Tunica Hills offers beautiful hiking with waterfalls and trails and all of the flora and fauna Louisiana is so famous for. Angola Prison's famous rodeo and art show is also a short drive away, as well as the prison museum. The Bluffs Golf Course is 25 minutes away and is an 18 hole golfer's dream! Designed by golf course architect, Arnold Palmer, The Bluffs offers challenging golf holes and open fairways. 10 minutes south of St. Francisville lies Port Hudson Battlefield. It was the home of the longest siege in American history. This is a must see for the history and Civil War enthusiast.

15 minutes north of the home, lies Woodville, MS. It also has many amenities as well as its own fine selection of antique shops. Another 30 minutes north of Woodville and you arrive in historic Natchez with its fine dining, casinos, shopping, museums and shops, as well. Natchez is rich in its Civil War history as well and the antiquing is unsurpassed.
