The Pines includes a gourmet eat-in kitchen, butler's pantry, formal dining room, music room, library/game room, mud room, parlor, 10 bedrooms- 5 with king size beds, 2 with queen size beds, 1 with 2 double beds, 1 with 2 twin beds (can be combined to king) and 1 with a double sofabed. The outdoors features 4 porches overlooking 5 acres and original 1850s barn. Although The Pines is elegant and antique filled, it has provided families and travelers a warm welcome and comfortable stay for over one hundred years.
My husband and I enjoy travel in Tuscany and the English Countryside and wanted to live in a similar area near our business in New York City. Pine Plains turned out to be perfect.
The Pines offers us and our guests the opportunity to travel back to the age of elegant rural life enjoyed in the Hudson Valley and the Berkshires. It's location provides the best of country living, sporting and vacationing.
I highly recommend renting to Hana, her family and friends. They were timely with their payments and took great care of the house. They are welcome to stay with us any time.
We could not have asked for a more elegant yet comfortable, accomodating, down-right inspiring place to be together with a group of friends and family. The attention to detail and art of how this home has been cared for and restored is incredible. Every one of our guests loved their time at The Pines, and I so appreciated the kindness, generosity, and professionalism of the owner and wonderful manager Melissa. We will remember our time there for a long time, and hope to have a reunion someday in the future!
I held a corporate off-site with 7 executives at the house and it was perfect. The house had individual rooms (8+) and bathrooms for everyone, and plenty of rooms for breakout sessions (game room, piano room, multiple outside areas, library, kitchen, dining). Not to mention the house is beautiful and well kept. I tend to be a picky guy and this house is excellent.
Other notes: great wifi, good service at arrival/departure/during stay, well equipped house (sheets, towels, kitchen, coffee) and walking distance to grocery, restaurants and hiking.
My partner and I chose The Pines as a place for us and some friends our to stay during the weekend of our wedding. Sipping whiskies in the parlor, communing with old friends over dinners, and lingering over coffees & pastries on the inviting covered porches made our stay an exquisite component of our wedding.
The enormous home provided several spaces for our group of 10 couples to convene - the parlor with a piano, the drawing room with its game table, and the cozy library. Somehow, though, we always ended up in the well-stocked kitchen where we prepared meals for 22 with ease. Being walking distance from a grocery store made it wonderfully simple to dash out and get whatever it was that we had forgotten.
The spacious rooms were well appointed with luxurious bed and bath linens. Each was sufficiently cooled with its own A/C during our unseasonably warm and humid stay. And being an enthusiast of historic architecture I particularly admired the period-appropriate renovation of the bathroom in the room we chose.
The magic of this place to transport you to another time did not stop on the main floor, or even in the bedrooms. This being a wedding weekend we asked about laundry facilities and I couldn't help but feel I was in the labyrinthine servants' quarters of Downton Abbey when I was shown the facilities in the basement. We were offered the use of washers, dryers, ironing stations and even a steamer - invaluable for a weekend involving formal wear.
We were welcomed warmly upon arrival and attended to promptly by Melissa when we had questions or requests.
Upon our regretful departure we asked how soon we could come back, anxious to experience its seductive charm again.
David and I had an amazing weekend stay at The Pines with our family and got married on the grounds. Our guests said it was the most enchanting wedding they've ever been to. The house is gorgeous with amazing charm. Each room is more beautiful than the next. It felt like we lived in a museum for a weekend without the fussiness of guards. WeThe amenities are spectacular. We stayed 10 couples with 2 kids extremely comfortably, we can't wait to stay there again. Melissa the manager was always available to help with anything we needed. Great communicators and gracious hosts. The land is beautiful and the small town is delightful. I highly recommend this house, especially for larger events. This will be an u forgettable stay for you anyone that visits this house.
We rented the Pines for my partner's 30th birthday celebration. The property is singular with beautifully appointed rooms that transport you to a different era. Lot's of original details restored meticulously and the home is outfitted with every modern convenience - best of both worlds. The grounds are equally as beautiful and the porches surrounding the house provide a nice place for a glass of wine and an afternoon chat. The weekend was one for the books.
In a word, my experience at The Pines was AWESOME. The house is an absolute gem; a 1870s Victorian that looks gorgeous in the VRBO pics and even more so in person. It was lovingly restored by the owners, Jorge and Eileen, who are engineers with a very keen eye for detail, historical accuracy, and beauty. They graciously gave my group of 40+ guests a tour of the house which covered the local history, stories about the house and its residents, and the step by step of the renovation process. The house manager, Melissa, is very attentive and helpful. When one person locked their room key in the room, she quickly came over to help and when my group left behind several items after we checked out, she put them in a box and mailed them to us. I am looking forward to coming back and definitely recommend this house to anyone looking for a venue for a special event like a reunion, wedding, birthday party, or just a getaway from NYC/Boston, etc.
The Pines is located 2 hours north of New York City in bucolic horse country just east of the Hudson River and west of the Berkshires. The area is known for world class hunting, equestrian events, polo, hiking, antiquing and scenic country drives. Like Tuscany and the English Countryside, it is a center for organic farming and artisanal foods. It is a perfect location for a country vacation, wedding, family reunion, hunting excursion or foodie getaway.
