Lisa Barill purchased this house in 2013
Along with the lovely tree lined streets and safe neighborhood, one of the most desirable features of our guesthouse is definitely the beautiful landscaped yard and swimming pool. The relaxing atmosphere and environment makes even a business trip seem like a vacation.
Your stay in the guesthouse offers the advantage of having a full kitchen and a outside barbecue grill , when you want to stay in and prepare meals. You are also walking distance from many wonderful restaurants, cafés and coffee shops, for times when you want to dine out.
My family stayed here 6 nights. There were five of us total--myself along with 3 teens and a 4 year old. We arrived and Lisa's daughter walked us to the guesthouse. There is plenty of sleep space with the two bedrooms and fold out couch. Plus there is plenty of lounge around space in the living/dining room. The home is clean, bedding clean, bath clean. The bathroom and kitchen stocked with items you might need, but not travel with, which I appreciated when we needed scissors and a bandaid. As the week went on I noticed very small things, like oh that vent is a little dusty. One of the outdoor steps is warped, again no big deal. I would take this place over a hotel. It was a very cute home, it was clean, safe, comfortable, the grounds are well maintained and pretty. As mentioned in previous reviews the main home is occupied by students. There is a private entrance so we never had any interactions other than hi and bye as we're coming and going if they were outside. It was mostly quiet our entire stay, one night Friday or Saturday evening was a little louder, I think the students were winding down at weeks end, but no big deal. I would recommend Lisa have a window covering for the sliding glass door. Even with that and small things I mention I give the accommodations an an A. My family enjoyed our time here and would happily stay again.
I asked prior to my arrival date if early check in could be accommodated. I was told yes, with an hours notice. I called day of arrival only to find out that was no longer an option. In fact, I was not able to check in until 4:30- which is after the listed check in time on this listing. Cleanliness left a bit to be desired. Hairs on all the linens- sheets, towels. Previous renters contact lenses stuck to the top of the nightstand.
Similar to a previous reviewer, I too was kept up until 3am with noise from the main house. I was in town for a very important work trip, so I could not afford to be up half the night. I left two days early due to noise and asked if I could get a refund on those days, but never received a reply.
There is a great hotel up the road for half the price. I would highly recommend it to future travelers.
I was looking for a nice affordable place for my mother, my partner and I to lodge for my niece's wedding. Did I get what I paid for? I never got to meet Lisa. She agreed to an early check in as long as we could give her an hours notice. I gave her an estimated time the day before and then texted an hour before to say we would arrive at 1pm. She was unable to meet us but said she'd be there in 25 minutes. Never showed. She gave us permission to let ourselves in as the door was unlocked. A pile of laundry was on the floor and a girl came in and quickly scooped it up. We needed a key and communicated as much to Lisa many times. She promised to put it under the mat and we could leave and lock up. We returned at 8:30pm and no key under the mat. I had to call her again, went to the main house and the girl that had the key wasn't home. Another random tenant got me the key out of the girls room after she got a call from ? Not nice, not friendly. The place looks like the pictures. Not as clean as it could be, the stairs down from the main house are busted up, towel hook on the back of the bathroom door is hanging by loose screws and the excess of decoration inhibits any practicality of surfaces or function. We were there for three nights and the third night the 20-somethings with European accents living in the main house hosted a Halloween party - outside and eventually in the pool. I'm pro fun and pro party. I just thought that was pretty weird to rent a guest house and have a costume party right outside the door.
So - for young travelers I suppose it's better than a hostel. Lisa didn't follow through on anything she told me.
This property was exactly what we wanted for 2 adults and 3 young children 9,6 and 4.5. It was clean, tidy and had everything we needed. The pool was the icing on the cake! We were very happy there and even when we caused a terrible lot of stress to our hostess because I had mucked up our booking, both the hostess and her daughter were just so wonderfully understanding that under other circumstances it just would have just been horrendous for them. They treated us with such compassion we were made to feel less guilty and very grateful.
This property is ideal if you want somewhere you can relax and enjoy your holiday. It is easy to get around all the LA sights as it is close to the freeways and interstates. There are lots of shopping areas nearby and driving there was simple and no stress.
I would recommend this property to anyone wanting a great home away from home. Nice people, nice address and very relaxing. I hope we get the chance to stay there again one day, the children certainly hope so!
The neighborhood was beautiful, safe and plenty of parking. Lisa was very friendly and more than willing to do what she could to make our stay pleasant. Beautiful yard and very clean guest house. Her and her daughter were both very available by phone/text which was helpful. There was plenty of shopping (grocery, pharmacy, etc) and restaurants nearby although most of what we did was in LA and along the beaches. It was a 45 minute drive to the LAX area and that was during the non-rush hour times and NOT using Interstate 405.
We had 4 adults and 2 teens and even though there was enough bed space, the pull out couch was less than ideal. It is old and the frame must be tweeked because it took us 10 minutes to even get the bed unfolded as the frame was jammed inside the frame of the couch and then the one corner dipped so far that my mother-in-law had to sleep with her head at the foot and my father-in-law slept in the chair with his feet on the corner of the bed. The teens slept in the twin beds and they said they were super squeaky and woke them up every time one would try to roll over. We were disappointed that we had to ask for the spa heat to be turned on (30-45 minutes before we wanted to use it) and unfortunately when they did try to turn it on, the heater caught fire and we never did get to enjoy it. Not sure why, but all 6 or so garbage/recycle cans were already full when we got there and so it made it hard for us to dispose of our waste upon leaving 4 days later.
Overall, I would recommend this property, but not for more than 4 people unless she replaces the couch/hideabed. She did have an air mattress available, but we didn't use it.
Recommend highly, great value for all that's offered. Will definitely stay here again when in LA area. As lovely as pictured, friendly and accommodating hostess!
