About Tanya Schilleman
Interacting with people, especially our guests gives me great satisfaction. Being blessed and in a position to live at the West Coast is a pleasure that I love to share with our guests and I find it a most joyous feeling when our guests check in an also experience what I see on a daily basis...the utter beauty of our West Coast nature, the white sandy beaches, our marine life, our abundant birdlife, our unique sunrises over the sea, our pink sunsets... my happy place!!!
Tanya Schilleman purchased this Villa in 2018
Why Tanya Schilleman chose Saint Helena Bay
The ever changing "painting" of the ocean right in front, the unique birdlife, Cormorants flying low past the villa in the mornings, Oystercatchers enjoying a ray of sunlight on the rocks, dolphin & whale spotting right from the comfort of the lounge, verandah or sundeck, all to be enjoyed from the villa without having to leave the premises... The protected bay where you can swim, SUP, kayak and snorkel... The clean, white sand of the beach... The peace and tranquility with gorgeous sunrises to be enjoyed with your first cup of coffee in the morning. Catch the first warm rays of the sun from the unique sundeck upstairs or verandah on ground level!
What makes this Villa unique
Mustique BeachVilla is located approximately 30m from the ocean, with a boardwalk leading directly to the beach. One is surrounded by nature and nature scenes, the peace that you will experience when you arrive here for the first time, a tranquil space, the calm waters right in front of the villa, with interesting rock pools to explore and a lovely protected bay where you can swim or kayak and sometimes have a pod of dolphins joining too. The villa offers peace and tranquility but is still situated centrally in St Helena Bay in a gated estate, so you do not have to travel far to buy fresh bread or croissants from the bakery, however back at the villa you are once again confronted with nature and this to me is the best of two worlds, being able to travel approximately 1,2km to the nearest shops and yet once you are at the villa you have no idea of city life or road noise. Mustique BeachVilla is north facing toward the ocean, with never-ending ocean views, a warm home in winter and cool bedrooms in summer.

St Helena Bay is the only place in the West Coast where the sun rises over the sea, which is a very important motivation to come and reside at BeachVilla Mustique. Our beachfront villa offers spectacular views over the ocean, thus an ideal address for whale and bird watching, as well as early morning beach walks, swim, paddle or exploring of the many interesting rock pools, all located right in front of the villa.
St Helena Bay is home to the fishing industry and has the largest concentration of fishing factories providing more than 50% of the fish produced in South Africa on a yearly basis.
Catch a glimpse of the 'snoek' boats going out to sea in the early hours of the morning and returning later in the day filled with snoek. "Snoek season", a most exciting time of the year, with snoek a very special fish found only off the african coast. Snoek roe, also called 'Cape caviar' is a particular delicacy with snoek quiche, snoek samosas, snoek soup etc. being very much part of the local cuisine.
With Sandy Point Harbour a 'stones' throw" away from Mustique BeachVilla, walking along the beach to the harbour when the snoek boats come in, make it easy and adds to an interesting stay when you as guest can buy your own, fresh snoek directly from the snoek boat.
St Helena Bay is quite centrally located and one of the many little fishing villages of the West Coast. By car very easy to explore different villages around the area in and around St Helena Bay riddled with many lovely beaches, which makes your journey to St Helena Bay a magical getaway. St Helena Bay, a coastal fishing village offers many magnificent beaches to discover, some of them well known and visited by families, surfers, kayakers and others are well hidden, serene and quiet little spots which I will be happy to let you in on these little secret gems.
The West Coast offers magnificent flowers in the "flower season", an annual affair, as for a few weeks during August and September the flowers bloom everywhere! The plants respond to rain by bursting into colourful, abundant flowers, which in its part again attracts bees, insects, birds, little bokkies that just love the taste of the leaves and bulbs. Once again, I will happily furnish guests of all the places to visit to make your stay a memorable one.
Last but not the least reason, once again to come and visit St Helena Bay, is to see our magnificent whales! An incredible experience to watch the whales whether you are in a boat or walking along the beach or even relaxing at the villa and a whale decides to have a leisurely swim past....these awe-inspiring creatures just never seizes to take my breath away when they glide past. Annually, between June and November Southern right and especially Humpback whales migrate, giving us a chance to watch them in the bay with their calves, gently gliding past.
