Studio Apartment Right On The Beach, Perfectly Suited For 2 People

Say Aloha to this beautiful, oceanfront property and charming 2nd floor studio perched on a bluff overlooking Charley Young Beach.

With the most fantastic ocean views all throughout the apartment, this Classic Beachfront Studio is down-to-earth and elegant in it’s simplicity. It is relaxed and well appointed with an heirloom-style dining table and 2 chairs, the livingroom/bedroom area has a beautiful couch & end tables and a comfortable Queen sized bed with an ensemble of crisp Hotel Collection linens. The screen doors open up onto a sunny lanai with a backyard garden view and just beyond that, view of the sandy beach and gentle surf. A fully separate unit, it has it’s own private entrance in back of the main house, a fully-equipped kitchen and a private bath with fluffy bath and beach towels. The apartment now has a brand new air conditioning system to keep you cool and comfortable but it's also very pleasant if you want to turn it off, open all the windows to let in the tropical trade winds, scent of the ocean and sound of the waves. Amenities include WIFI and a flat screen T.V., 2 beach chairs and umbrella.

A spacious grassy oceanfront area in front of the main house with a hammock hanging in-between the coconut trees is all yours to use during your stay with us. You'll be able to spot sea turtles swimming all year round and Humpback Whales in the winter season. The sunsets here are eventful, every evening the sun goes down with a spectacular show of color.

The Original Charley Young Beach House

The property has been in the family for generations and is situated at the entrance to one of the best beach parks on Maui, Charley Young Beach, which is named after my husbands grandfather, Charley Young, who came to Hawai'i in 1932 as a military reporter to cover the infamous Massie Trial. Settling on Maui, he purchased this oceanfront parcel and built a house for himself and his wife, Betty, and became a well known public figure and reporter for the Maui News and Honolulu Star-Bulletin in the 1940’s and 50’s. The house still stands today, relatively unchanged with all of it’s ‘Old Hawai’i’ charm, telling generations of family history.

The Neighborhood

Charley Young Beach Park is surrounded by an old neighborhood with a mixed demographic and has a very local feel, the antithesis of a fancy resort establishment. The entrance to the beach park is located on Kai’au Place in Kihei, the Hawaiian word Kai’au translates in English, “swimming sea” or “a nice place to swim”. This beach is well known for it's gentle surf and perfect for swimming, snorkeling, stand up paddle, fishing, and there's miles of sandy beach to walk in either direction. If beach activity is what you are after, the location just doesn’t get any better than this, vacationing on the southern coast of Maui, you’ll feel removed from the ordinary and yet have complete access to the center of bustling Kihei town. Most everything is a very short car ride or within walking distance to the beach house- grocery stores, farmers markets, coffee shops, cafes, restaurants and fine dining, shopping, entertainment, and all the accoutrements you can think of to keep happy and comfortable during your stay.

About Derrick & Arlene Salomon

Family owned, my husband Derrick was born and raised on Maui in this very house. He is a Real Estate Agent, an amazing Chef and has been in the hospitality business for many years, he loves people and really understands this business from the heart. To everyone who knows him, he is the 'prince of Aloha'.

I have lived on Maui for 30 years and am a mother, artist, Arborist, Massage Therapist and Pilates teacher.

We both love to hike & botanize, cook & entertain, farm & garden, and watch T.V. in each others arms.

Wonderful place . Old Hawaiian feel . Cool at night with the sea breeze . Instant access to the beach ! Walk to multiple restaurants. Not a condo! If you're a bit independent you'll love it . The owners are charismatic and available. Enjoy a glass of wine and the evening on the front lawn with a good book and the surf at your feet!!

Position "A" on a Great Beach!

We've just returned from 5 peaceful nights at this sweet spot steps from the beach and wish we were still there! I can still hear the constant sound of the ocean waves lulling me to sleep, and I can picture the gorgeous ocean views from all throughout the upstairs unit. The owners Derek & Arlene treat you like ohana from the moment you check in, and they provide everything you need for a relaxing and fun stay – there are quality beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, and boogie boards for beach & ocean play time – and there’s a large hammock in the yard from which to enjoy the afternoon breezes after a sunny morning on the sugar sand beach. This location is perfect for exploring South Kihei on foot – you can walk steps from your door directly onto Charley Young beach at the north end of Kamaole I and continue walking Kam I, II & III for a great morning beach stroll greeted by turtles. If you paddle, the morning waters of Kihei are flat and forgiving. This studio apartment is perfect for two people, spacious and clean, and very nicely decorated with high quality linens and towels…and a very comfortable bed too! You can walk to great local restaurants, the grocery store and a better than average natural food store (Hawaiian Moon), and it’s only a short car ride to the great beaches and amenities of Wailea and Makena. The kitchen is well stocked to make your own meals, though admittedly we mostly made breakfasts and enjoyed dining out at night at places like Sansei, Café O Lei, and Tuesday taco night at Moose McGillicuddy’s. To satisfy your sweet tooth, check out Maui Pie up the road and we dare you to try to choose just one kind. Though we mostly stayed local because we wanted to chill on a great beach, this location is within easy-to-drive distance to upcountry towns you’ll want to visit like Makawao and Kula (visit the Kula Wed/Sat farmers market, then Surfing Goats Dairy and Hawaiian Sea Spirits within a mile of each other), or hop over to Paia town. Be sure to get back home by sunset so you can witness the majesty of it from Charley Young Beach – simply stellar. We will absolutely return for a stay here, just our style!

If you are able to book time at this abode you are lucky!! My opinion of course.

Long term Hawaiian's place which has a unique ambiance. Open air " air conditioning" - perfectly comfortable. Walkable to most of the local restaurants and beaches. Personable owners with in depth local knowledge . Literally a few steps to a swim able local beach. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants out of the generic condo gig. And it's also adjacent to one of the most popular surfing break beaches in Maui!!

We are glad to be your host, please feel free to ask if there is anything you might need to make your stay as comfortable as possible, and feel free to use our local expertise to help with planning your activities, or suggestions on exploring the island.

We please ask everyone to show Aloha and deep respect for the property, the house and our other guests and tenants.
And a few other little things like:

-NON SMOKING environment, we please ask that you do not smoke in the apartment or anywhere on the property.

-In Hawaii it's customary to remove your shoes before you enter a home because it helps keep it clean. Please remove your shoes before you go inside.

-We please request that you do not sit on the couch in wet & sandy swimsuits.

-Please, no pets, no parties or overnight guests.

-Quiet time after 10 p.m. please. : )

-Please empty your trash everyday and do not leave any food out.
