The property was as described and pictured; however, there are several things all travelers should be aware of.
This property has a lot of steps, which you would expect with three levels of living space. However, the steps proved to be extra treacherous for us. My husband fell on the outside steps the first night and although he suffered no injuries, both his pride and clothes were a mess. Beech Mountain is frequently wet/snowy/icy during winter months and the outside steps have no "skid strips" and some of the steps do not even have a hand rail. Since this is a "pet friendly" cabin, you have no choice but to use a few flights of stairs to get to the outside so this is a challenge. Our 25 year old daughter tripped on one of the inside flights of steps on our 4th night in the cabin but was agile enough to "stick" her landing. Less than a minute later, I came down the steps and was not as fortunate, landing on the hardwood floor; subsequently, I am now in a "boot" nursing a severe sprain and bone bruise, but thankfully, no break. The lighting on the stairs is perhaps a little dim with the dark brown carpeting.
The furnishings in the cabin are old and worn and while the level of cleanliness was typical of some of the cabins we have rented previously, it left room for improvement. There was food packaging and trash left under the beds and sofas, likely leftovers from children who had visited in the past.
I'm sorry, I know it sounds like we are complaining about everything but truthfully, there is room for improvement. The location was wonderful as were the surroundings - loved the "stream" (water drainage) flowing through the yard and we did have several deer come and visit - and you are close to the ski resort and a couple of restaurants and other retail shops. The firepit was nice although the weather never allowed us to use it - it rained most of the time we were there. All of that part was exactly as described. But the steps make it challenging for many reasons and the cabin could use a "deep cleaning" with some updated furnishings. The cabin is very spacious with plenty of beds, towels, etc. I would recommend it although it does need some attention from the owner.
We found the home to be clean and amazing, and it was everything it was described to be. Plenty of room for our large family to be together or to spread out. Kitchen had everything you could need for meal prep (only thing I needed was foil or plastic wrap for leftovers, there was even a crockpot, toaster oven, toaster, and blender). It was nice that each bedroom had it's own thermostat. I was also pleased with the super capacity washing machine/dryer. The views from the home were amazing. Location was super convenient to slopes, kids even walked home a couple of times. We were able to make quick trips to town while the kids were on the slopes, visiting shops and eating at Brick Oven Pizza for lunch one day, with great pizza and service too. We found the cheapest rentals for equipment at The Ski Shack just a 10 minute drive down the mountain, $10 skis, boots, poles, and $15 snowboard and boots. I would definitely recommend this property! Also, the property owner was very friendly and helpful, and quick to respond to questions.
Beautiful and quiet location!! The house and location were great for a family or large group. The setting was j u still perfect!!!! The little kids (2) to the oldest(65) loved it!!!
Great, family friendly home. We all felt right at home. My 13 year old daughter said "I love this house". Pretty impressive bc we have rented dozens of different homes across the USA and the kids loved the comfortable, cozy vibe of your house. Great movie collection, lots of towels and several cozy beds. Everyone was very comfortable and happy. We are already thinking of coming back with friends and staying at your home again. Thanks for the hospitality.
I'll go ahead and admit it, we had idyllic winter weather. Fresh snow regularly, and the threat of being snowed in... which makes every little kid (and adult who wants to skip out of work) excited. Those things were beyond the control of our property owner. However, everything they could provide - they did. The cabin was amazing. It had great wooded views and a creek. It was spacious and handled our 3 families and all the kids with ease. While the kids weren't outside or on the slopes at absurdly nearby Beech Mountain Ski Resort, they could hang out in the basement with their own TV and gaming system while the adults stayed upstairs and enjoyed the fire.
The cabin was nicely decorated, but in no way such that we ever worried that the kids (ages 7-21) were going to tear something up. There were fresh towels and linens and enough bathrooms to go around. The radiant heaters have individual thermostats in each of the bedrooms allowing you to stay as warm as you needed.
The little details were there. There were snow sleds we could take to the town of Beech Mountain and use on the public sledding hill. The washer and dryer were clearly new and worked flawlessly as we dried out an immense amount of wet snow clothes. The fireplace was large and can handle as big of a fire as you care to maintain.
We're coming back.
The homeowner was also very gracious when we thought we were going to be snowed in. It's clear he was as excited to share his cabin with us as he was to use it himself. Genuinely a great guy who even called to check on us to make sure we had gotten down the mountain ok.
If you're looking to be close to the slopes and the Beech Mountain Village but also feel like you're getting the mountain cabin experience without sacrificing amenities, you've found the right cabin.
