Why we like it

A secluded cabin tucked away in the trees, with just enough distance from the hustle and bustle to give you some extra privacy, but not so far away that it’s inconvenient. It works as a quiet escape as well as it does a group destination—either way, you can bring the dog!

What’s nearby

Check out Trout Creek Recreation Center for fitness facilities, pools, a sauna, and more. Feeling more adventurous? Rent stand-up paddle boards or even sail boats at the Tahoe Donner Marina. And for the snowy months, Northstar California Resort is about 11 miles from your door, while Tahoe Donner Ski Area is even closer.

Things to know

TV with Netflix.

The futon is in the living room.

Yes, there’s a dishwasher.

Heads-up: using the Tahoe Donner HOA facilities (shared pool, etc) requires modest day-use fees.

solid value - don't judge the rustic look

 • 4 of 5

The Turmans have thought of everything with this rental. They do a very good job of keeping the house stocked with anything you could possibly need or want, whether it's coloring books for kids, instant oatmeals or coffees. They've really thought of everything. The kitchen is beautiful. Some guests are taken aback by the rustic and cozy feel of the living room and decor, but don't judge a book by it's cover. The only real critique I'd give is that the mattresses for most of the beds could use replacing. They're not very comfortable and are a bit old.

Owner's Response: We are sorry and disappointed to see this guest didn't enjoy this unique cabin. There are several lights throughout the home on the ceilings, walls, tables, and floors. This guest did pay a higher price due to the holiday rates, and we are sorry to see they could not find the value in it.

Great little place to stay in Truckee

 • 4 of 5

My wife and I came with our dog and new baby and enjoyed a few nights stay at this cabin. It's clean, everything is provided and instructions for your stay (wifi, checkout, etc.) are all readily available. It's close to downtown Truckee and north shore ski resorts, so overall a great little place to call home for a vacation up to the mountains.

The only drawbacks we noted were 1) The old, creaky and uncomfortable beds and 2) The fact it's on a busy road (Northwoods). If you don't know the area you wouldn't know it and it doesn't really state that when you're renting the unit. It's set back off on the lot so you have a little privacy, but the fact it's on a main road might make some think twice.

Lucky Cabin

 • 3 of 5

If you want to stay in Truckee and be in a very cool older style original log cabin, this has a lot of character. It is small but provides everything you will need for a fun stay in the mountains. We have stayed in the cabin, both in the winter and summer, and would highly recommend. That said, it is also not a 4-star lodge so if you are looking for something newer and or nicer this is not the place.

Quick mid-week trip

 • 4 of 5

This house is the right price and comfort level. The house was warm, clean and we had hot water. There were tons of board games that kept us playing together as family. No issues or complaints. We will definitely stay here again.

Great cabin

 • 5 of 5

The location was great- close to i80 and Truckee, but still secluded enough to have privacy. The back yard is great- stretches down to a small creek. Very dog friendly- just be careful when unloading your vehicle as the parking is right off a somewhat busy road. The cabin had a ton of kitchen appliances I did not expect-it was super convenient. The beds were very comfortable. They also keep a ton of firewood to keep the wood stove going... great to sit around and read a book from the eclectic collection they had (there are also board games and supply for arts and crafts for kiddos). If you get there early check out the cabin yourself as we did not get an email notifying us it was ready and just happened to arrive 2 hours ahead of schedule. The cleaning crew were already gone so we let ourselves in. Overall great experience and would definitely go back

About Vacasa, CA - Lake Tahoe Office

Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.

Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental managementthings like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.

Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!
