About Marilyn Oberbeck
I grew up in southern California and attended Loyola Marymount University, majoring in mathematics and philosophy. As a kid I was also interested in electronics and ham radio. This made me a prime candidate for employment as a telecommunications expert by the Department of Defense, which wanted to hire me before graduation. After obtaining my undergraduate degree I did work for DOD for five years, from 1966 to 1970, gaining lots of hands on experience with telecomm and electronics navigation systems. Then I rotated into the private sector, careering out with Exxon Mobil's ocean tanker division. I picked up graduate degrees in mathematics and electrical engineering along the way, and have also taught mathematics and electrical engineering in various universities. My retirement career as a real estate developer has heated up and prevents me from enjoying Pacific Vistas Retreat to the extent I had hoped.
Marilyn Oberbeck purchased this Estate in 2012
Why Marilyn Oberbeck chose Gold Beach
I traveled the Oregon coast for 48 years before purchasing Pacific Vistas Retreat in 2012. The 12 acres of privacy on a high oceanic bluff, stunning ocean views, and the potential for a private trail to a secluded beach and other walking trails on the property, were irresistible incentives.
What makes this Estate unique
The home has a low gray rectangular exterior profile, with odd interior angles. It took me two weeks of living there before I stopped getting lost inside the house. It is wonderful to sit in the living room on a stormy winter day, staring out to sea. The winds can blow in off the ocean at 100 mph, yet the sound of the interior central heating system overwhelms the sounds of the storm.

Restfull and private
We found this property to be even better than expected. It was restful and private with beautiful views from almost every room and lots of space for our group of 10. The house was clean and uncluttered and we found everything we needed was provided. I would definitely stay again.
Great Retreat House
We so enjoyed staying at this beautiful house. The views were amazing and the house was perfect for our crafting weekend. The kitchen needs some updating, but everything was great and worked well for our group. We loved the privacy of this home.
Rodent Infested, mouse poop all over, rude and aggressive management, deceitful owner!!!
When my family and I arrived at the property things appeared to be suitable. By the time we were ready to go to be and pulled back the covers there was significant evidence of mouse poop on the decorative pillows on the beds as well as the sheets where the pillows were and on the head boards on both down stairs bedrooms. Upon further investigation there was mice poop in the hallways, the bathrooms on the counter by the sinks and also the counter space around the Jacuzzi tub and soaker tub in both bathrooms upstairs, mouse poop was also found on the floor by the sliding glass doors in the upstairs bedrooms and the sliding glass door in the kitchen. The next morning the property manager was contacted via phone call and text message. The property manager said the owner was contacted and informed and that the cleaning lady was on her way to take care of the situation. I spoke to the property manager late in the day again and she said she would come to the property to negotiate a reimbursement, I told her that the house still needed cleaning and sheets needed changed and that coming in person to negotiate was not needed that could be done on the phone. The third day of our stay the cleaning lady had still not arrived and no resolution had come to pass. I was told by the property manager that she was busy trying to leave to go to Peru and that this was not her problem and that we would need to contact the owner directly, with no forwarding contact information. After searching on the homeaway listing I found the owners phone number and called. I was able to contact Mr Yerkers, told him of the situation, he sent over the property manager immediately. When the property manager arrived she was very aggressive and yelling saying this was not her problem, she then came into the kitchen where the rest of my family was having brunch and yelled as she walked through to the garage saying "Sorry about the mess" she then got out the shop vacuum and cleaned up two spots of mouse poop in the entry way, I asked if she was here to clean the rest of the house and clean the sheets and she said "No that was not her job or intent, she needed to go to Portland to get on a plane to Peru" I told her the cleaning lady was supposed to be there two days ago. The house was never cleaned in the 4 days we stayed, the owner promised a full refund, then made up lies about us damaging the property so he wouldn't have to refund. Very poorly maintained property!
What she doesn't tell you is that she agreed to vacate the house immediately and finish her vacation at a nearby upscale motel. Instead she stayed two more nights in my house, completing her reservation. She also damaged a screen door, broke the glass on an outside tabletop, and took a blanket from the sofa.
The view was fantastic, the landscape needed attention, overgrown. The house was clean except for dead bugs in the bathtubs and sinks. There were comfortable beds for ten of us, 6 adults and 4 children. The curtain rod in the lower rh bedroom slips at the touch, also has water damage in the ceiling in that bedroom. There's a wheel that falls off the bbq on the left side. The family had a good place to be all together. Thanks!
We had a great stay and except for VRBO's new fees and added costs, the price was right. Five of Eight children from the baby boomer generation shared this home for a week. This was a glorious 1970's architecture designed stunner with four master en-suites ideally separated for maximum privacy. Out door spaces and Views are AMAZING. Total Privacy. Beds comfortable. Not in town, but very close to a nice little golf course. Not updated or well decorated, but house was clean.
Nice large house with great ocean views
Overall house worked well for our purposes. Very large bedrooms with great views. Good for large groups of adults. House is somewhat out dated, and TVs were hard to figure out. Bedroom TVs didn't work. Still recommend it for people looking for big house in this area.
Located 12 miles North of Gold Beach, Oregon and the Rogue River. Two golf courses, jet boats, mountain biking, both fresh water and salt water fishing, surfing, scuba diving, and more.
