This beautiful home has ocean views from living, dining, and kitchen areas. A deck with ocean views adjoins the kitchen and living room. Both master suites upstairs also have ocean views, as does one of the two downstairs bedrooms. There is a small additional bedroom attached to the bathroom of the eastern upstairs master suite, ideal for kids. Each bedroom has a private attached bath. The upstairs master suites have a private shared deck with ocean views, and the western upstairs master suite has an additional small private deck with stairs leading to the downstairs patio deck. The western master suite bath has a jacuzzi. Both downstairs bedrooms also have private decks. The large three car attached garage has a shop area. Additional parking for two more cars is available in a detached carport near the house.
I grew up in southern California and attended Loyola Marymount University, majoring in mathematics and philosophy. As a kid I was also interested in electronics and ham radio. This made me a prime candidate for employment as a telecommunications expert by the Department of Defense, which wanted to hire me before graduation.
After obtaining my undergraduate degree I did work for DOD for five years, from 1966 to 1970, gaining lots of hands on experience with telecomm and electronics navigation systems. Then I rotated into the private sector, careering out with Exxon Mobil's ocean tanker division. I picked up graduate degrees in mathematics and electrical engineering along the way, and have also taught mathematics and electrical engineering in various universities.
My retirement career as a real estate developer has heated up and prevents me from enjoying Pacific Vistas Retreat to the extent I had hoped.
Marilyn Oberbeck purchased this estate in 2012
I traveled the Oregon coast for 48 years before purchasing Pacific Vistas Retreat in 2012.
The 12 acres of privacy on a high oceanic bluff, stunning ocean views, and the potential for a private trail to a secluded beach and other walking trails on the property, were irresistible incentives.
The home has a low gray rectangular exterior profile, with odd interior angles. It took me two weeks of living there before I stopped getting lost inside the house. It is wonderful to sit in the living room on a stormy winter day, staring out to sea. The winds can blow in off the ocean at 100 mph, yet the sound of the interior central heating system overwhelms the sounds of the storm.
We stayed as a group of 4 families. There was plenty of space to mingle, cook, play games, wander or sit and enjoy the sound of the ocean. The place has a retro vibe so if you are looking for the most up to date kitchen and technology (there is cable tv in both masters) this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a great place to enjoy the scenes of nature and spending quality time with family and friends this place is wonderful. Everyone enjoyed their time spent at the house and at the beach. We went to town a few times and really like the charm and friendly people. Perfect mountain/beach destination!
The master with the attached children's room worked well for us. We loved the deck off of the kitchen. It was a favorite place for meals and for just relaxing and enjoying the water below
The decks and patios were the highlight of the property.
6 adults and 8 children were accommodated well in this awesome house. The 4 bedrooms with bathrooms attached made life very easy for all of us. The private balcony up stairs was great for morning coffee before the kids woke up. The first floor porch is where we spent most of our time. This area had stunning views and perfect temperature at all times. We all lived this vacation house.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this spacious, restful home. The views from the two master suites, and the wrap around deck are outstanding. There are two fireplaces and plenty of wood to make the cool, foggy days very comfortable. Our three families had a great time visiting and enjoying the view from the deck while the charcoal grill bar-b-que warmed up. Plenty of bathrooms and beds for all of us. The property manager, Marilyn, was quite helpful and responsive to our inquiries. She even furnished some of her own personal items that we had left at home. All of us highly recommend this beautiful venue.
Located 12 miles North of Gold Beach, Oregon and the Rogue River. Two golf courses, jet boats, mountain biking, both fresh water and salt water fishing, surfing, scuba diving, and more.
