Neighboring Montgomery Centre, 5 mins away, offers a full grocery store, liquor store, highly rated restaurants, pubs with live music, inns and a bike/ski equipment shop. In addition there is a large Hannaford's 15 minutes away.
We were in Vermont this July for a family wedding taking place in Montgomery Center. We had 10 adults (aged 26-62) and 2 children ( 8 +11) staying at the house. The house is just lovely, and there was lots of space for all of us. The kitchen is well appointed and had plenty of room for numerous cooks at one time. Each bedroom was very comfortable, with lots of storage room. The loft was very spacious and held two full size beds. Both sitting areas are large, and we had a fun post-wedding snack time on the gigantic porch. The home has lots of details that made the stay easy, such great parking, china dishes, labeled light switches, fluffy towels, etc. It is a great place for a group that knows each other well. we had a great time here.
There were a few easily addressed flaws, which is why it gets 4 stars. The house is NOT air-conditioned and that was NOT mentioned in the listing when we booked it. We get that it is in Vermont, and generally doesn't need it. But when we arrived it was HOT! We definitely would have adjusted our plans to open up and air out the house before going to the pre-wedding BBQ. The owner provided fans in every bedroom, but if anyone looking at this place has health issues, be aware of the lack of AC. A little prior notice would have gone a long way. Also, there is only one real shower, and it is slippery. There is a rain shower in the second floor bathroom in the tub. The older folks in our group felt it was difficult to get in and out of the tub, and there are no grab bars. The other "shower" is a spray attachment on a hose in the third floor tub. It was ok for the kids, and those of a smaller height, but it wasn't a shower. Should you have mobility issues, this might be a problem. But overall, after adjusting to these minor issues, we had a great family weekend.
Large house, 15 minutes or so from Jay in Montgomery. Close to restaurants and small grocery store. House is whimsical. Comfortably sleeps 10. Great option versus staying on the mountain!
This house had everything that was needed for a comfy stay. The owner of the house was super helpful. It was nice to learn the local history about the town, you can tell he really loves sharing his vaction house with others. I love to cook and the kitchen is amazing and has everything you need to prepare meals for everyone staying at the house. If your come to ski, explore rural vermonts history or just plain relax with a book, I would highly recommend this amazing vaction home!
We have stayed in this house a number of times, both in the summer and winter, and it is a fantastic place in all seasons. The house itself is situated in a friendly village and offers every comfort and cosy detail - from a lovely natural fire stove in winter to a huge garden in the summer. The surrounding area offers a wealth of activities, which my 7 year old took full advantage of. Nearby Jay Peak offers skiing and a water park, and in the summer local swimming holes abound, as well as many great hikes and beautiful views. Stowe is only a 50 minute drive away and the local cycling is also very good. We look forward to coming back again!
