Situated on a hilltop close to the medieval village of St Paul de Vence this spacious villa has a spectacular panoramic view from the mountains to the sea. It is located within a private gated domain with a (shared) south facing swimming pool and private covered parking. The historic and beautiful village of St Paul, renowned for its art galleries and the famous Colombe d'Or restaurant, is within walking distance. Skiing in the Alps is 80km away.
The villa has been charmingly restored, with master bedroom, one double bedroom and one twin, all with French windows leading on to the private terrace with its magnificent views. There are steps leading down to a further terrace with planted borders. The living area is light and spacious with cream leather sofa and separate sofa bed, DVD player and storage. There is a dining area with seating for 6 people, which is situated next to the open fitted kitchen. There is a main bathroom, shower room and separate WC.
Our family had a fabulous holiday in this villa. It is well equipped with extra's such as table tennis,DVD's, Books and board games. The pool was very handy, not busy and had plenty of sun loungers and brollies. The location was good for looking around the surrounding area and visiting the coast, although we did find the restaurants a little pricey. The villa is set in a quiet, private location which we found to be very relaxing. I would happily recommend this villa to my friends.
The villa, which is situated close to St Paul de Vence, is very private with wonderful views of Nice and the surrounding countryside. The owners left a bottle of Burgundy in the fridge for us when we arrived, so the holiday got off to a great start. The shared swimming pool is accessed via a side gate on the property and our children spent many happy hours playing in it. There's a local supermarket nearby and St Paul and Vence are easily accessible by car. The domain itself feels very safe and secure and there is parking outside the house. Would we visit again? Unquestionably!
We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in this beautiful villa situated in a lovely domaine in St Paul de Vence. To relax on the terrace, looking out at the fabulous views of the valley and sea, as the sun went down was the perfect way to unwind after a day exploring the surrounding area. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment. With three bedrooms and a light and bright kitchen and living area the villa was very spacious, clean and welcoming. Combined with a large terrace and a large garden too, we were spoilt for choice of places to sit with a glass of wine and plan our next days adventure! We also loved being beside the large pool with private access to the villa, so nice on those warm days to cool down with a swim in such a lovely pool. Liz was very helpful as we planned our trip which helped ensure we had a wonderful time. We have come home with many special memories and will return again.
My partner and I and our two-year year old daughter returned to Domaine du Piol in March 2015, having first visited the property in 2011. Needless to say, a second visit speaks for itself: we are enamoured with this charming villa, perched just below the picturesque medieval town of St Paul de Vence. The villa is well-appointed - in fact more than most self-catering villas we have stayed in - and is very clean. Indeed, our daughter was soon romping around the villa shortly after arrival as if it were home.
You are spoilt for choice: the sun-kissed coastline of the riviera, the sophistication of the art galleries in St Paul, or the rugged terrain of the Hautes-Alpes and the Alpes-Maritime. Being walkers, we particularly dabbled in the latter, and thoroughly welcomed returning to Domaine du Piol after a long day's hike to rest weary limbs and to enjoy a glass of red. The villa is nestled amongst other villas, forming what feels like a hamlet. Beautiful views of woodland and coastline from the shaded terrace are abundant.
The villa is in easy reach of NIce, a good supermarket and other conveniences. We could not recommend more highly. Thank you, Liz, for another wonderful stay!

The villa is located on a hillside, 5 or 6 km inland; a 20 minute walk up a steep hill will lead you to the picturesque village of St Paul de Vence – well worth the effort.
The villa has a nice view from the terrace down to the coastal resorts. Unfortunately, the villa’s terrace suffers from dampness; attributable to the climate in that area according to the owner. Unfortunately, as a result of this, use of the large terrace was limited.
The facility is quite spacious inside, with 3 good sized bedrooms; a family of six would be accommodated easily. However, the interior of the property is in need of refurbishment. Amenities are pretty basic; there was clear evidence of dampness in several of the rooms and the bedding provided by the owner was of a poor standard, although the owner did offer a 5% refund in recognition of this.
Generally cleanliness was pretty poor throughout the property; it was also unfortunate that the main bathroom toilet leaked; according to the owner, French plumbing can be unpredictable!
The communal swimming pool is really close by and fairly well presented. We were there early in the season, so getting a lounger was no problem.
The property is in a good location for those keen to explore the area, whether you target other hillside villages or trips to the coast, everything is pretty much in reach – providing you have a car! Beware the numerous toll-roads; make sure you carry plenty of Euros in change within easy reach inside the car!
We found that the cost of eating out (across the entire region really) is not great value; a family of four will struggle to keep the bill under 150 Euro for a reasonable restaurant (for only 2-courses and soft drinks!).
A more appropriate accommodation could have resulted in a higher rating for this area.
On the edge of St Paul de Vence but away from the tour buses and crowds the villa in Domaine du Piol was a great and quiet escape for our family. The pool is large (shared but generally not heavily used) and well kept with direct handrailed access from the villa's terrace. The terrace itself gets oodles of sun and is a lovely place to sit and catch some breeze on the warm evenings, plenty of shade for dining at the table outside.
Kitchen well equipped, loads of toys and games for the kids to play with. All clean and tidy on arrival, the owner very easy to liase with over sorting keys/directions etc.
We went as a family of 4 which worked great, you could comfortablt be a 6 in there but any more might feel a bit of a squash.
Worth exploring the neighbouring villas in the hills such as Tourettes sur Loup, Biot, etc, Nice is fab(old town especially), Marineland at Antibes is fantastic but be warned, it costs a flipping fortune.
Antibes old town great fun for supper out with kids - lots going on and lots of kids zooming around. Don't miss Fennochio in Nice old town for the best ice cream known to man.
Only 10-15 minutes drive from Nice airport, St Paul is a beautiful fortified medieval village 'perche' situated on a hilltop with stunning views, and home to the famous Colombe d'Or restaurant which displays original art work by Chagall, Matisse, Picasso and others. The area is popular with artists attracted by the extraordinary light quality, and the renowned Fondation Maeght art museum is a short walk away. Domaine du Piol is an excellent base from which to explore Nice and Antibes, Cannes (20 min), Monaco (40), St Tropez (90) and the surrounding picturesque villages of Vence, Tourrettes sur Loup and Mougins. Beaches are a short drive away, and in the winter skiing at Greolieres is only 40 minutes away; the international ski resort of Isola 2000 is 80km.
