Beautiful Custom Craftsman-style home built in 2010 is your perfect destination stay in Girdwood. Featured in Alaska HOME magazine Winter 2014 issue.
Great location with walkability access to slopes, restaurants, bike/hiking trails. On the Glacier Valley shuttle bus route as well. Quick walk to ski lifts and Day Lodge (winter) area hiking trails, Crow Creek Mercantile, Post Office, and Girdwood Clinic.
Whether your travels to Girdwood are winter or summer, our location makes a perfect base for day trips to explore the Kenai Peninsula or Prince William Sound. In summer, the Kenai Peninsula offers the outdoor enthusiast unlimited options: hiking established USFS trails, mountain biking, guided whitewater rafting or kayaking, clear water fishing, ocean shore dip-netting, or a gorgeous scenic drive all the way to Homer and Kachemak Bay.
Prince William Sound and all it has to offer is easily accessible via the Whittier Tunnel, a quick 30 minute drive south from Girdwood. Seward is about a 2 hour drive south on the Seward Hwy from Girdwood. Both are deep sea ports for cruise ships, the Alaska Marine Ferry system, and numerous local fishing charters and scenic cruise boats to view marine wildlife and blue-ice glaciers that cap surrounding mountains.
Another day trip option during the summer is to catch the morning Alaska Railroad train at the Girdwood "Depot" for a breathtaking and relaxing 3-hr train ride in glass-domed cars to Seward, take an ocean cruise charter out of Resurrection Bay to the Kenai Fjords National Park for a couple hours, wander the streets of historic Seward, then catch the evening train back to Girdwood. The train route is different than the Seward Hwy corridor so you get to see mountains, glaciers, rivers and wildlife that are not accessible by road. Alpine Air, located at the Girdwood Airport offers summer helicopter tours and glacier dog-mushing rides in Punchbowl Glacier above Girdwood.
Winter activities include backcountry skiing in Turnagain Pass -- a mere 15 minute drive south, cross-country skiing here in Girdwood at Moose Meadows, and the 5-mile Nordic loop accessible near the Hotel Alyeska. Chugach Powder Guides offers heli- and cat-skiing for the serious powder hounds. Downhill skiing on Alyeska Mtn is just two blocks away with high-speed quad lifts to whisk you up the mountain. There are also two Magic Carpet conveyors for beginner skiers/boarders right at the base.
We are happy to assist you in planning your adventures -- whether day excursions or exploring the local features of Girdwood and Glacier Valley.

Robin Smith purchased this house in 2010
We've always been skiers and took family ski trips to Colorado annually, as well as ski trips with friends to Whistler, BC and Utah. After a lifetime in Fairbanks, we decided to leave the cold, dark winters and move to Girdwood, purchasing our lot in 2005. Once we settled on just the right house plan, construction began in 2009 and we moved in to our new home Christmas Day of 2010 with some interior work yet to complete.
We love the fact that Girdwood is midway between Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula, or Prince William Sound via the Whittier Tunnel which makes our location a perfect base for visitors to explore the greater area--just as we have!
Our home was designed for Girdwood -- rain, snow, sunny days -- which makes the wraparound covered porch/deck a great feature. You can sit outside and enjoy the ambiance, be it rain, snow, or sun and be sheltered from the elements. No snow shoveling the deck in the winter!
"What a small world that our good friends stayed here just days before us! A beautiful home, perfect set up for a family. Enjoyed ringing in the New Year in our favorite town.
We had only a short window of time to spend in Girdwood and this house was perfect! The house had plenty of room for all of us - a party of six in all. The great room was gorgeous and everyone enjoyed playing chess on the beautiful hand-made board and hanging out on the couches chatting. The kitchen was well stocked with all the extras that we always forget to pack, like olive oil, mayo and ketchup. And the built in dining room table was spacious and stunning in design. Now I want one in my house! The bedrooms were very comfortable and large, and we all loved the layout of the house. The house was within walking distance of the lifts and the close to Moose Meadows for cross country skiing too. Robin was accommodating in allowing us an early arrival and made sure that our stay would be perfect. We loved our time here and look forward to making it our lodging destination next year!
Our family of four adults from DC, CA, AK gathered here for 5 days over Christmas and did not want to leave! We thoroughly enjoyed this very clean, lovely, upscale home with its beautiful fireplace, comfortable furniture and good beds, full pantry, and so many accoutrements . We had fun looking in all the kitchen drawers and did not lack for a thing. Robin was available from the moment we made our deposit and encouraged a phone call should we have questions. All was in walking distance: eateries, hotel, slopes, winter biking, and we never noticed any problem with traffic.
This house was a great place to spend our winter holiday! It is the perfect location, walking distance to the mountain, but a few blocks away for the quiet. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything you could need for cooking. The living room is so comfy, with a great couch and a gas fireplace. We wanted for nothing during the whole vacation. Definitely recommend
This house has a casual elegance that made our stay care free. Totally beautiful spacious open floor plan, appointed with quality linens, towels, comfortable beds and cool furniture. It was spotless when we arrived and stocked with all the kitchen equipment, spices and basic necessities. No need to run out for this and that - it was all there. The layout of the house is perfect for family togetherness and for privacy if you need it. Plenty of room to spread out and to gather. Robin was great to communicate with. She gave us many activity ideas for the area. We emailed back and forth, no issues - easy peasy.
The location is fantastic. The village is an easy walk down the hill featuring the Mercantile grocery/liquor/general all things Girdwood store, along with good restaurants, coffee shops and yoga studios. The ski village (bakery, bike, art and wine shops) is an easy hike up the hill. We were in Alaska to attend a wedding, the welcome dinner was at the top of the mountain. We rode the tram up from the Alyeska resort, celebrated in the "deli" which is a bar/restaurant on top of the mountain that we hiked up the day before, and ended the night with a tram ride down the mountain.
We enjoyed several hikes with panoramic views up the mountain and through the woods. Waterfalls, Alaska Wildlife refuge, Portage Glacier, Whittier, cruise in Seward and visited the village of Hope. Every view is post card quality, it is all breathtaking. Girdwood, aka "Glacier City", and our perfect Alaska home rental, were the perfect base for our vacation where we began and ended each day.
The house was very nice, Robin was good to work with and returned messages very quickly. This place has everything we needed and all was very nice. Special thanks for all you did for us Robin!
This house is amazing! Great for a family or a few couples. The kitchen has everything you can think of, the rooms are spacious, the location is excellent, and the house is just so warm and inviting. We didn't want to leave!
The property's location has great walkability - ski lifts, the post office, grocery store, and all restaurants are all within a half mile or so from the house. The bike path that runs through Girdwood is continuous from the Hotel Alyeska all the way to Indian on the Seward Highway -- about a 35 mile round trip ride. We frequently ride just to Bird Point and back home -- only a 20 mile ride and the scenery along Turnagain Arm never disappoints!
Crow Creek Historical Mine is open summers and offers visitors a chance to pan gold and learn about the early gold miners that founded our community of Girdwood.
