Snowmobile adventures

If you've ever been snowmobiling, you know it's a great way to find fun far from the beaten path. If you haven't, well, it's time you tried. Mammoth Snowmobile Adventures is the perfect outfitter for first-timers or seasoned experts. Experienced guides and top-of-the-line equipment grant you access to California's greatest playground including: Thousands of acres of trails, pristine back country, spacious meadows, historic landmarks and lush pine forests.

The Reds Meadow Shuttle Bus provides transit service into the Reds Meadow Valley and to the Devils Postpile Departing from the Mammoth Mountain Inn

A Geologic Wonder

Established in 1911 by presidential proclamation, Devils Postpile National Monument protects and preserves the Devils Postpile formation, the 101-foot high Rainbow Falls, and pristine mountain scenery. The formation is a rare sight in the geologic world and ranks as one of the world's finest examples of columnar basalt. Its columns tower 60 feet high and display an unusual symmetry.

Red Meadow Pack Station Day Rides - Many visitors to Red's Meadow may want the experience of horseback riding through the forest and seeing some scenic country.

“Top of the Sierra Interpretive Center + Devils Postpile/Rainbow Falls”

Gondola building at the top of Mammoth Mountain

Combine these two to make a perfect day enjoying some of the best of the Eastern Sierra Nevadas. If you don't mind getting an early start, I recommend doing the Reds Meadown/Devil's Postpile/Rainbow Falls in the morning and the Top of the Sierra Interpretive Center in the afternoon. If you combine the two, you will get to see a beautiful alpine meadow, a hexagonal columnar lava flow, a 100 foot waterfall, ride a gondola and a 400 mile view of the Eastern Sierra Nevadas and still have time to go fishing or play a round of golf.

Driving down to the Postpile during the shuttle season (summer) is restricted to disabled, visitors to Red's Meadow resort and campers. Park at the Adventure Center (where you can take the Panorama Gondola to the Top of the Sierra)

Minaret Vista Point:Take the scenic drive in the summer or walk in the winter up to the Minaret Vista Point for quick access to some of the best views in all the Eastern Sierras, including panoramas of Mt. Ritter, Mt. Banner, and of course, the namesake Minarets

Experience the adventure of Mammoth's new Tube Park + Snow Play Area, perfect for all ages - featuring lights, music, and action! Come take the ride of your life on our groomed tubing lanes or stay warm by the heaters with a cup of hot cocoa. Families with little kids can build a snowman and enjoy the snow play area. Woolly's Adventure Summit is located on Minaret Road (SR203) approximately halfway between The Village at Mammoth and Main Lodge.

Got a dog? They love Mammoth too. Dogs are allowed on the Town’s trolleys (leash and muzzle), and on Mammoth Mountain’s scenic gondola (leash). All of the camp sights are dog friendly and many of the hotels allow pets. The following link gives some great ideas for activities for you and your dog.

The Mammoth Lakes Trail System offers boundless recreation opportunities on more than 300 miles of trails. From granite crags to trout-stocked lakes, pine forests to alpine meadows, there’s something for all seasons, interests and abilities, motorized and non-motorized alike. Managed jointly by the Town of Mammoth Lakes and the Inyo National Forest, the system includes connections to three wilderness areas, Devils Postpile National Monument, the Pacific Crest Trail and more. Many of these attractions are accessible right from our Chalet! Explore and discover the adventures of a lifetime.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This was our 2nd trip to Mammoth and our first stay at the Mammoth Mountain Chalets. Booked our stay through the website with no problems and the owner of the chalet, John Stiegler, was uber-responsive and helpful in answering all of my questions prior to our trip.

Once we arrived, Dale and Romie got us set up in our chalet in a matter of minutes (which is no small matter given we are a family of five). In addition to just being super nice people, during our stay, they were very responsive to any questions we had and did much to acquaint us with what was available for our enjoyment in the area. The cabin itself was spacious and plush. Another family joined us, bringing our total number to 9, and it accommodated us perfectly. We loved being close to lifts and being able to visit the Inn and even grab the shuttle into the Village from where we were.

Needless to say, it was our first trip to the Chalets but it definitely won't be our last. Usually a trip is filled with one or two hickups along the way, but not this one. In fact, my kids were already asking me when we were coming up again as we were heading down the mountain. I really can't say enough about how smoothly everything went except only how John, Dale, and Romie helped make this one of our best family vacations yet!

Amazing Time! (as usual)

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year staying at the Chalets in Mammoth and I didn't even think it'd be possible to have a better experience than the year prior, but we most certainly did! You truly can't beat the location and the chalets are extremely comfortable. The management (Kelli and Jim) is super friendly and helpful every step of the way. I would recommend staying there to anyone looking to have an awesome time on the mountain.
