Our unique home sits atop the mountain and is built literally on the edge of the undeveloped side of the brow, it is open style with windows throughout both sides and both floors of the entire home, the top floor is a full open loft with 2 separate bedrooms both with their own balconies above the main deck for sipping coffee or a glass of wine while watching the sun set, and both have King beds, one bedroom has its own fireplace and flat screen TV,. True to the open bungalow style the entire house is open air with vaulted wood beam ceilings-but for privacy there are pull curtains to separate individual rooms upstairs. There is one master bath downstairs with shower and tub. There is a great-room downstairs as well with large flat screen TV over the spacious gas fireplace.
There is a large Galley style kitchen with gas stove and large refrigerator and butlers pantry. There are top of the line stainless steel appliances, dishwasher, washer and dryer. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you will need to cook or entertain. There is a wine refrigerator with controlled temps, ice maker, and dishes/pots and pans etc. We have a spacious front porch with swing, in addition there is a swing on the edge of the brow a short distance through the woods for a romantic stroll. The screened in side porch overlooking the valley has a new 4 person massage therapy hot-tub by Sundance Capri. The back porch sits on the edge of the brow, and runs the entire length of the house. The sun sets in a lake that can be seen several miles away just behind the porch. Sunsets? Good luck finding a better place to watch one as the sky sets itself on fire, watch it from the hot-tub, the balcony or the deck. If you wake up early, watch the fog roll up from the base of the mountain and you will actually think you are sitting in a cloud. We have French Doors opening to the balcony up and down, so feel free to let the breezes flow(as long as you turn off the central heat and air)There is a charcoal grill on the back porch for you to cook your favorite meal with the wine you will be sipping while taking in the view. The great-room is cozy with an oversize couch and chaise lounge built right in, sitting in front of an oversize gas fireplace, with a large mantle, Direct-TV, Large screen flat TV for those that can't miss the Games. DVD Blu-ray and xbox, downstairs, Blu-ray and Direct-TV upstairs. Small TV and dvd in second bedroom upstairs. Great cell service, for data and cell on all networks. Outside- fire pit with cedar chairs and tables, with a natural rock ledge for seating as well for telling of tall tales and short ones. We have a circle gravel drive behind a wooden fence just off of the scenic parkway, so privacy is never an issue, there is no house within half a mile of us. Watch the video, see the pictures, because words cannot do this home justice. Want to ride your bicycle downtown? No problem-its a short ride. Watch the eagles fly? Deer in the front yard? We have it all here at Valhalla. Check out Away From it All 480579 and Fernweh 666662, if this cabin is booked! Beach needs? Sandy Bottoms-vrbo#665401
Hi! We love Mentone! We have several cabins here that we have built and come as much as we can. We live in Birmingham, and are both in the medical field. As hectic as that is, this place is our place of refuge and refreshing of our minds, relationships and spiritual revival. It is just a magical place. Period. We love sharing our home with respectful people seeking the same rejuvenation. We hope that you will leave better than you came. We always do.
Rob Shaffer purchased this cabin in 2015
We have been coming to Mentone for many years, from Desoto State Park Camping and hiking, to floating the rivers, we can't get enough.
Spectacular Views, breathtaking sunsets, all the comforts of a home away from home. All so very close to Mentone.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Valhalla although I don't know how I missed the fact that there are only two beds and both are upstairs which meant my husband had to sleep on the sofa. The mattress upstairs is a memory foam type and heavenly, in fact I am waiting on an item number! :) You can't beat the views; you feel you are in the treetops!
Our stay was one that can't be compared to any other getaway we've had in the past... It was so very unique. It's in an area between Desoto State Park and Cloudland Canyon, which are both filled with great hiking, running, and biking trails. And the cottage itself is filled with more personality than any other we've ever stayed in before. It's atmosphere is so romantic with views that inspire and refresh. Just an all around perfect getaway choice!! You can't help but enjoy ( and never want to leave!!!) Vicki Adcock
My husband and I spent our 15 year anniversary here for 2 nights. The house is nicely tucked away away from neighbors. We drank coffee every morning from the balcony over looking the beautiful mountain! So serene!! The owners style was TOP notch, with a rustic yet modern feel. Loved all the windows throughout. The king beds slept awesome!! We loved the hot tub with how it's enclosed on the screened porch. The property is very well taken care of. We visited the Little River Canyon, Desoto Falls, and Orbix to see glass blowing (highly recommend the drive out there, and follow directions on their website NOT GPS). I would suggest if you go to Wildflower Cafe then make a reservation!! The food was fine, but the desserts were the best thing on the menu!! If you plan to rent a kayak or canoe at Desoto Falls, then go early!! It seems the town kind of shuts down after 2pm on a Saturday. We planned on visiting all the little shops about 4 and everything was closed:/ Overall it was wonderful relaxing get away, and I would highly recommend this house!!
This is the perfect place to stay if you want stunning views and lots of privacy. Plus, Dr. Rob quickly answers any questions you may have.
Our family had a wonderful stay at Valhalla! The cabin is located close enough to some great outdoor activities. We went to Desoto State Park, Cloudland Canyon State Park, Little River National Preserve, Rock City, and the Tennessee Aquarium. Next time we will make it to Ruby Falls. We had a great time hiking with our 2 girls and the dog. The cabin is well appointed and has all you need! The view is absolutely wonderful from the back porch. Such a nice area of Alabama to be in. We normally stay in the Ellijay or Blue Ridge area of Georgia, but will definitely be back to this beautiful area. Thank you for such a relaxing place at the end of each day!
This was a perfect weekend getaway from our anniversary. We have been to Mentone several times and this by far has been our favorite cabin. The views are amazing, the cabin is beautiful and Mentone is the best little town. We definitely hope to come back soon!
