About the property

3 King Suites + Queen Loft, 3.5 Baths, Mountain Views, Private Dock-Sun Valley

*Discounted Weekly Rates* Dog Friendly* Non-Smoking* Lakeside Lodge is a beautiful home, custom-built in 2007 on the shores of private Sun Valley Lake to serve as a vacation destination. In a very special corner of the world, the location is within minutes of the town of Grand Lake and the West Entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park! With a large, well-equipped gourmet kitchen and Great Room, the spectacular mountain and lake views provide an unrivaled destination for foodies and outdoor enthusiasts. Soaring vaulted ceilings range from 9 to 30 feet, combined with expansive south-facing windows overlooking the lake make this a spacious, airy and light-filled destination. Three (3) King bedroom suites each have private entrances onto the deck or balconies overlooking the lake. Each bedroom also has incredible lake views and attached bathroom suites customized with either a steam shower or a jetted tub in addition to beautifully tiled showers.

A queen bed in the recently expanded loft similarly provides incredible views. The loft area is open to the Great Room below. Although bordered with standard railing, this elevated loft may not be suitable for unsupervised young children. Two twin mattresses & bedding are available for use on the floor if your group exceeds eight. Enormous decks, balconies, and outdoor tables and chairs provide nice places to relax with a morning cup of coffee or an evening bottle of wine. A large propane BBQ grill encourages outdoor food preparation and dining to capitalize on the beautiful climate.

Lakeside Lodge has a small private beach and private dock equipped with a rowboat, a paddle boat, 2 kayaks, and 2 paddle boards for your enjoyment on Sun Valley Lake. ONLY non-motorized water craft are allowed on this family-friendly lake. Sun Valley Lake is stocked yearly for catch and release trout fishing. No fishing license is required. Only hemostats and clippers are provided; if you wish to fish, please bring appropriate rods, reels, nets, and barbless flies to safely catch and release the beautiful trout.

We are located near the trail head for the Arapahoe National Forest Stillwater Pass Trail System with more than 100 miles of great trails to hike, bike, jeep, ATV, snowmobile, or ride horses. ATV and snowmobile rentals are available from "On the Trail" 1/2 a mile from our home right at the trail head or you can bring your own toys. Grand Lake is regarded as the "Snowmobile Capital of Colorado" and you can ride your sled from our home to the trailheads without trailering! In summer, we frequent the same trail system with ATVs, Jeeps, and mountain bikes. Truly a paradise. Within walking distance of Lakeside Lodge is Winding River Campground, offering horse trail rides, hayrides, weekly ice cream socials, pancake breakfast, and a children's petting zoo in the summer.

We are eight minutes from the historic village of Grand Lake which offers charming boardwalk shopping, dining, and recreation on Grand Lake. Two small grocery stores, a gas station, library and a small town hardware store are available in Grand Lake.

Also within 10 minutes is the Grand Lake Golf Course and hiking trails, which convert to outstanding cross-country (nordic) skiing and a free tubing hill in the winter. We are forty minutes from Granby Ranch for downhilll (alpine) skiing/snowboarding in the winter and mountain-biking and golfing in the summer. Multiple services are available in Granby including a conventional grocery store (City Market/Kroger), numerous gasoline stations, banking and medical facilities.

We are 40 minutes from Hot Sulphur Springs Resort and Spa for those who wish to relax in this historic venue. One hour from Lakeside is Winter Park Ski Resort which offers a movie theater, downhill skiing and snowboarding, and many summer activities including mountain biking, shopping, alpine slide, concert venue, and festivals.

This 4500 sq ft home was custom-built in 2007 with caretaker's facilities on premises, but separated from the rental. The basement, garage, utility area, and quarters above the garage are locked off from the 3000 sq ft main house available to renters with separate outdoor access and keys. The lakeside main structure of the home and private dock area is the rental side you have seen on the website, and you will have exclusive access and use of this area during your stay. The home is equipped with an electronic deadbolt with a customized entry code allowing your group access at any arrival hour - details will be provided by email approximately a week before your arrival.

Owners do have another cabin in the Sun Valley area and typically sleep and work there (or head out on other adventures) while Lakeside Lodge is rented; however, we may potentially need access to portions of the owner's area and the garage on occasion. Although we love to meet our guests, and are happy to answer questions or address any issues during your stay, we typically assume renters enjoy their solitude and don't come onto the property or try to introduce ourselves unless invited!

The owners do reserve the right to access the caretaker area during your rental if necessary. There is a two story indoor "breezeway" that connects the caretaker's apartment from the main home (rental area). Locked doors separate the areas and will remain locked throughout your visit. We would never enter the rental unless requested to do so by the renters or in the event of an emergency. During winter, we may offer (typically by text message or email) to clear snow from the decks and balconies but would coordinate with you. If guests wish to clear their own decks or prefer to just let the snow accumulate during their stay, that normally will be fine! We try to provide the perfect combination of privacy to our guests, while offering some personal assistance if you wish and if we are in Grand Lake during your visit. Just let us know if you wish to meet us, otherwise we will leave you to your enjoy your vacation in privacy.

We've tried to anticipate your needs, and pride ourselves in the extra conveniences, thoughtful touches, and unexpected luxuries you will discover during your visit. There are six electrical outlets provided on each side of each bed. Do you wish to connect a bedside light, phone, clock, CPAP, bed heater and laptop simultaneously? We've got you covered! Tissues next to each bed? Of course! A huge gourmet kitchen with a commercial refrigerator and commercial freezer to hold your feasts for 10? Yes! Full laundry room, with fragrance-free detergent? Yep! A whole-house water filtration system to provide excellent drinking water throughout the home? Yes! A high chair and booster chair for the infants? Yes. Puzzles, books, and games? Sure. An extra shower seat for those with reduced mobility? Yep. How about an extra stack of towels to wipe the kid's and dog's feet after a day playing in the lake? Certainly! Blender, crock pot, coffee maker, huge collection of recently sharpened kitchen knives, and an amazing array of dishes and glasses? Yes. As you will see from the guest reviews, we provide quite an array of kitchen spices, cutlery, dishes, and cookware. Binoculars for viewing the wildlife? Certainly! A backpack, cooler and a few extra jackets that guests can borrow during their stay? Yes, even these. A description of some other special upgrades are described in the "Unique Benefits" section under the Owner Story - but other touches you will discover during your visit.

About Kim Vincent

Recently celebrating their 30th year of marriage, Kim and Mike strive to provide a top-notch destination for their guests. Several travelers have correctly guessed our engineering backgrounds based on our carefully labeled individual binders cataloguing available hikes, snowmobile trails, biking, fishing, boating, wildlife viewing, and dining opportunities - in addition to numerous tips about the home and local area. We hope we've achieved the proper balance of a casual, comfortable home combined with some nice, luxurious upgrades.

Kim Vincent purchased this house in 2015

Why Kim Vincent chose Grand Lake

We specifically selected this property for its prime location, lake access, and unique floorplan with three king suites. This allows three couples traveling together to each have beautiful, comfortable, and private accommodations. No couple gets demoted to the "bunk room" when three couples travel together!

The proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park, the amenities of Grand Lake, and the multi-use trail system throughout surrounding Arapahoe National Forest make it an unrivaled destination.

Although this house is rather new (built in 2007), we've added many enhancements since our purchase in 2015. Because most of our renters are returning guests, we would like to list a few of the improvements you will find on your next visit: The loft has been expanded and now offers a queen bed. No more sofabed! Additional tongue-and-groove ceilings through the kitchen and dining room improve the cozy setting. An on-demand hot water heater has been installed, allowing continuous hot water. We completely reroofed the home in 2017 to eliminate drafts and improve energy efficiency. Two steam showers, two gas fireplaces and bed heaters ensure a warm and cozy trip! A small sandy beach was created next to the dock, allowing easy access for kayaks and paddleboards. An upgraded AV sound system has been installed in the main living area to improve your movie and sports-viewing experience. High speed internet is provided (DSL typically provides 12 to 20 mbps, sufficient to access videos, music, email, etc). Guests now have exclusive use of a dumpster for refuse at the top of our driveway. In addition to the rowboat and pedal boat, we've added two kayaks and two paddleboards to keep you busy on the lake. Umbrellas on the dining table and over the child's sand box are provided for shade on a sunny day.

What makes this house unique

The setting is truly unique - located on a peninsula within a tranquil private lake with excellent trout fishing. Yet we are adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Park, providing far more hiking and sightseeing opportunities than you can fit into a summer. For more active boating opportunities, the largest natural lake in Colorado (Grand Lake) and the second largest body of water in Colorado (Lake Granby) are within 7 and 20 minute drives, providing opportunities to catch and keep Mackinaw, rainbow, brown trout and even kokanee salmon. Sail boats, pontoon boats, jet skis, kayaks, water skiing and other activities abound in the "Three Lakes" district. The Lake Granby Yacht Club is regarded as one of the highest in the world at 8280 feet. Our high elevation water is a bit cool for some waterskiing guests from hot climates, and you will see wetsuits on some wakeboarders, tubers, and jet skiers. But you will also see many of our locals and northern guests enjoy the water in common swim suits.

If water isn't your thing, the wildlife viewing is incredible in this part of the country, and near our home specifically. Moose, elk, fox, and otter visit often and seasonally, you will be amazed by the number of humming birds, osprey, and even the occasional Bald Eagles that have adopted our lake. Please let us know if anyone in your group has peanut allergies. We leave a supply of peanuts in an airtight container that guests can use to feed the Stellar Bluejays. However, we will remove these in advance of your rental if notified.

If you are a dog-lover, our notebooks index dozens of dog-friendly trails, for either a summer hike, a mountain bike ride, or a winter cross-country or snowshoe trip. If you prefer solitude, we have a list of our favorite quiet hikes.

Our area is an outdoor paradise, but sometimes guests comment that the best part of their trip was relaxing with family, playing games, doing puzzles and drinking hot chocolate surrounded by spectacular views!

Loved kitchen, heated floors in bathrooms, large deck overlooking the private lake. Cooking in the kitchen was great. We had the pleasure of meeting Kim and Mike. They are terrific owners of this fantastic property.

Absolutely Perfect - exactly what we were looking for!!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely beautiful home with an awesome kitchen, lots of room to spread out everywhere, very comfortable beds, beautiful bathrooms with steam showers, sits on a lake, awesome views - what more can you ask for! We celebrated our Dad's 80th birthday here with ages ranging from 20 to 80 - there was something for everyone to do. We never bored and enjoyed watching each other kayak, SUP, fish, paddleboat on the lake. Kim & Mike are wonderful people. I love how they have binders for everything. Seeing all the hummingbirds all day long on the deck was quite the treat and seeing a Moose cross the lake the next morning after we arrived, seemed as though they had this scheduled/choreographed. Really love this place, you can't go wrong booking this beautiful place. We will certainly return. Thank you for letting us stay at your home and allowing us to bring our golden - we will cherish the great memories that were made here.

What more could you ask for!!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home! Lots to do, right there at the house. One thing I think you could add, a heavy duty coat rack, at the front entry for purses, coats, etc. Otherwise, it was perfect! The Hummingbirds are so fun to watch. Oh, and we did see some moose! So cool, for us Florida visitors.

OUTSTANDING!!!

  • 5 of 5

This home is the most well equipped rental property we've ever stayed in. Outstanding kitchen, comfortable beds and clean, updated bathrooms - just to name a few. We liked all the helpful binders full of information from hiking trails to restaurants and so much more. The home is spacious, comfortable and a perfect home away from home. Our kids loved the water "toys" that are provided. Being pet friendly made it even more perfect for our family. The wildlife and scenic views are picture perfect. We will certainly return for another awesome family vacation!!!
