Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

The kids are gone, the dock is empty, and this place is too special not to share. We've converted the upstairs into a one bedroom apartment for your enjoyment. It features a queen size bed and the kitchen/ dining area includes a set of twin bunk beds. All rooms share views of Lake Pend Oreille and the Selkirk Mountains, We just built a ramp directly from parking to the front door. Our home is surrounded by giant cedar trees and looks across the lake at Sandpoint (6 mile drive) and Schweitzer Mountain (18 mile drive). Full access to all other property amenities featuring our fire pit (Smores anyone?) and hot tub in the Winter, or the dock, BBQ pit, waterslide and lake in the Summer. Additional amenities include a heated ski room and expert equipment maintenance on request in the winter, plus on-site boat moorage in the summer. But what truly sets this property apart is having the owners as a full time resource. We raised our kids here, know all the local activities and destinations, and can help you solve unanticipated travel needs. Sort of a concierge service.

About Shep Snow

We're both career military officers and travelled all over the USA and the World for 30 years. Shep is now the director of an alpine ski racing team, and also runs an avalanche school. Joy is an avid skier, sailor and kayaker when not keeping a lid on things at home.

Shep Snow purchased this apartment in 1991

Why Shep Snow chose Idaho

As we prepared to retire from the military we searched for a small town to raise our children. Another essential ingredient was finding a place where we could pursue our hobbies of skiing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, etc, etc. Sandpoint has it all!

What makes this apartment unique

Our home offers the quiet of the South shore while being minutes away from downtown Sandpoint. Most of the residences on our road are vacant in the Winter, and few things are finer than sitting in the hot tub, gazing at lights across the lake with the only sounds being snowflakes floating through the trees. In the Summer, the lake gives us fast and easy access to everything town has to offer.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time at the staying at El Casa de Snow! Shep and Joy were outstanding hosts providing suggestions, maps, and insight to Sandpoint and the surrounding area. Things that stood out about our visit: The Property - Absolute A+. The house sits directly across from Sandpoint so all views are of the lake, downtown Sandpoint, and the mountains. You literally look out and see the ski runs on Schweitzer Mountain directly in front of you whether you're laying in bed, sitting in the jacuzzi, the hammock, or on the dock. This in itself made the booking worth it. The house is a quick 10-minute drive to downtown, so it was nice to quickly grab something when we needed it. The hot tub and hammock were perfect and really close to the room. The separate entrance to our room was nice, it felt removed and secluded from the rest of the house. The space in their house that they converted into the VRBO "apartment" was their son's old room, and it felt like his old room with his trophies, photos and decor still up. This didn't bother us at all, if anything, you can feel the pride that the paren't have for their son... "Show Your Snow!" There are actually two rooms you're getting, a front room with a queen bed with the neighboring room with bunk beds. The room was really nice because we have a 2-year old girl and it was easy to put her to bed in a pack-n-play, close the door, and let her fall asleep. Since we brought our video and audio monitor, we were able to enjoy the property while she slept in the room. One criticism (this is very minimal) are the blinds in the room - they don't block out the sun so the room gets extremely bright starting at 5:45am... I'm not a morning person and I like my room dark - again, minimal. Overall, we had a A+ experience and we're excited to go back..... outstanding place and many thanks for being great hosts!

Very well kept, private property and totally amicable owners!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was our lil slice of heaven this year. The Snows honored our special requests and the property was in pristine shape and who could describe in words the backyard view. We definitely hope to visit this property again.

Beautiful place on the lake! Great hosts and view.

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time hiking nearby, kayaking, visiting the town shops, and best of all the hot tub on the deck at night. Such a great stay with my husband.

Beautiful! Peaceful! Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

The property, the living quarters and the view is excellent. We went to sleep and woke up with the window shades up so we could enjoy the breath taking view of the mountains, lake and secluded wooded area. It was very romantic for our stay for our wedding anniversary. They even got us flowers as a little anniversary gift and offered to let us take out the kayaks. They were more than eager to make our stay everything we wanted it to be. They are wonderful and generous people. We look forward to going back again and again.

Great amenities, cozy home, beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

The home was beautiful, with enough privacy for a fun weekend away, but still with the comfort of having the owners there. The hot tub in the snow was great after skiing and snowshoeing (with lots of trails in the area) and the bed was so comfortable! They had a tv and movies available, did the dishes each day for us, and had everything we needed for a little kitchen with a grill outside. We would definitely stay here again!

Low key and just what we needed

  • 5 of 5

Shep and Joy were super friendly and felt like family away from home. Any time we asked about the area they would give us pointers and even had some great DVD recommendations for us to borrow. The views from the house are amazing to wake up to.

Great stay!
