Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Sagle

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

The kids are gone, the dock is empty, and this place is too special not to share. We've converted the upstairs into a one bedroom apartment for your enjoyment. It features a queen size bed and the kitchen/ dining area includes a set of twin bunk beds. All rooms share views of Lake Pend Oreille and the Selkirk Mountains, We just built a ramp directly from parking to the front door. Our home is surrounded by giant cedar trees and looks across the lake at Sandpoint (6 mile drive) and Schweitzer Mountain (18 mile drive). Full access to all other property amenities featuring our fire pit (Smores anyone?) and hot tub in the Winter, or the dock, BBQ pit, waterslide and lake in the Summer. Additional amenities include a heated ski room and expert equipment maintenance on request in the winter, plus on-site boat moorage in the summer. But what truly sets this property apart is having the owners as a full time resource. We raised our kids here, know all the local activities and destinations, and can help you solve unanticipated travel needs. Sort of a concierge service.

About Shep Snow

We're both career military officers and travelled all over the USA and the World for 30 years. Shep is now the director of an alpine ski racing team, and also runs an avalanche school. Joy is an avid skier, sailor and kayaker when not keeping a lid on things at home.

Shep Snow purchased this apartment in 1991

Why Shep Snow chose Idaho

As we prepared to retire from the military we searched for a small town to raise our children. Another essential ingredient was finding a place where we could pursue our hobbies of skiing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, etc, etc. Sandpoint has it all!

What makes this apartment unique

Our home offers the quiet of the South shore while being minutes away from downtown Sandpoint. Most of the residences on our road are vacant in the Winter, and few things are finer than sitting in the hot tub, gazing at lights across the lake with the only sounds being snowflakes floating through the trees. In the Summer, the lake gives us fast and easy access to everything town has to offer.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time at the staying at El Casa de Snow! Shep and Joy were outstanding hosts providing suggestions, maps, and insight to Sandpoint and the surrounding area. Things that stood out about our visit: The Property - Absolute A+. The house sits directly across from Sandpoint so all views are of the lake, downtown Sandpoint, and the mountains. You literally look out and see the ski runs on Schweitzer Mountain directly in front of you whether you're laying in bed, sitting in the jacuzzi, the hammock, or on the dock. This in itself made the booking worth it. The house is a quick 10-minute drive to downtown, so it was nice to quickly grab something when we needed it. The hot tub and hammock were perfect and really close to the room. The separate entrance to our room was nice, it felt removed and secluded from the rest of the house. The space in their house that they converted into the VRBO "apartment" was their son's old room, and it felt like his old room with his trophies, photos and decor still up. This didn't bother us at all, if anything, you can feel the pride that the paren't have for their son... "Show Your Snow!" There are actually two rooms you're getting, a front room with a queen bed with the neighboring room with bunk beds. The room was really nice because we have a 2-year old girl and it was easy to put her to bed in a pack-n-play, close the door, and let her fall asleep. Since we brought our video and audio monitor, we were able to enjoy the property while she slept in the room. One criticism (this is very minimal) are the blinds in the room - they don't block out the sun so the room gets extremely bright starting at 5:45am... I'm not a morning person and I like my room dark - again, minimal. Overall, we had a A+ experience and we're excited to go back..... outstanding place and many thanks for being great hosts!

Perfect lake weekend

  • 5 of 5

We loved spending our weekend here! We went for a ride in the kayaks, went for a dip in the hottub, and soaked up some sun on the dock! We loved the lake access and the beautiful views. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful property, very friendly hosts.

  • 5 of 5

The property is right on the lake with views across the lake of the ski hill. The upstairs room of the house looks out on the lake. A very nice dock and crystal clear water. I saw two otters swimming near the dock. Hottub. We had a fire one night. The hosts are great. This is their home so they live in the house below the rental unit. Our hosts shared wild huckleberries with us and gave us great directions for a hike to an alpine lake where we harvested our own berries. They were also nice enough to let us use their boat for a ride on the lake. (Note that I do have significant boating experience and own my own boat.) If returning to Sandpoint, I would stay here again.

A Perfect Piece of Paradise on Lake Pend Oreille !!!

  • 5 of 5

The property has everything we were looking for !!

Picture perfect, private, quiet location on the lake, surrounded by majestic trees.

Great Location from Sandpoint, 10 minutes away.

The loft was "cozy & well equipped", with wonderful views of the lake from all rooms.

The owners were very friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous with our whole family.

The weather was fabulous while we were there, which made the water sports so enjoyable, and the lake is very warm to swim in...., "for hours if you wish".

The property has everything you could ask for and more...., great wharf & slide, firepit area, hot tub, internet access, parking, etc.

We also enjoyed good reading material & playing games that are available in the loft at night, along with star gazing from a spectacular lit up sky !

Definetely a spa/retreat atmosphere !! and close to all amenities !!

Our Best Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I both agreed that staying at the Snow's place on Lake Pend Oreille was our most successful family vacation. They have re-purposed their son's upstairs room to mimic a two room hotel room but their addition of crock pot, waffle iron, grill and fire pit meant that our family was able to do many more meals right there than we ever would have in a standard hotel room. In addition, while the listing says the place sleeps four, they offered a cot so that we could enjoy the lake with our three children. The room has a separate entrance from the main house helping to create our own space. While there wasn't a lot of room inside for a family of five, we had no desire to be inside anyway, so we had no problem with this.

This leads me to what stole the show. Shep and Joy have a wonderful yard that leads to a private dock with plenty of water toys to use and rent. We spent one day picking huckleberries up at Schwitzer (a surprise hit!), but the rest we spent on the lake, mostly on the dock. It was heaven on earth with the water at a perfect temperature for full days of fun in the sun. The Snows had piles of "floaty" toys for us to use and four wonderful kayaks to rent at very reasonable prices. Being right on the lake made a beautiful location perfect. If anything we wish we had planned for longer than a weeks vacation.

The Snow's are the perfect hosts. They gave great recommendations for bike trails, restaurants, and other activities in Sandpoint, while giving us plenty of space. You could not ask to meet kinder people. I have already recommend Sandpoint, Lake Pend Oreille and especially the Snow's to all of our family and friends.
