About Helen Neary ( Property Manager)

I am a licensed architect, grew up in Honolulu and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Architecture. I currently live in Lake Worth, on the property. I have had a 25 year career as an architect, and when I discovered Lake Worth I knew that its small village scale, with sandy alleyways, charming cottages and intact downtown would be the perfect place for me to create a vacation retreat, for myself, and for visitors. When you come and stay, I hope you appreciate Lake Worth as much as I do. America has very few charming small towns left, and in Florida, they are rare as hen’s teeth. Lake Worth is a treasure that its citizens have preserved through designation of a series of historic districts. While still a transitional community, with pockets of poverty and attendant issues, it is fast becoming "the" destination for those who are seeking "old Florida" and a place which has a real village feeling where one can walk to the library, the grocery store, the post office, city hall, catch a movie at the independent movie house or see a live play and have a meal in a restaurant. The weather is warm and tropical year-round, so it makes an ideal getaway for anyone seeking a respite from the cold.

Why Helen Neary ( Property Manager) chose Lake Worth

J Street Lodge is located in Lake Worth, Florida , Palm Beach's hip little sister, chock full of charming mom & pop shops, restaurants, antique and consignment stores and minutes away from the more publicized Palm Beach. Enlightened residents have blocked mass commercial high-rise development in favor of preserving Florida's last remaining walkable human-scaled village. While Palm Beach features private mega-mansions, Lake Worth keeps a lower profile with hundreds of original 1920's cottages. Palm Beach has the black tie charity affairs, Lake Worth has a jazz club, theater, independent movie house, cafes and art openings.

You have many options when staying at J Street Lodge when it comes to enjoying the South Florida weather. The ocean, beach and fishing pier are minutes away as well as a public Olympic-size pool. Right over the bridge, play golf and dine at Palm Beach Par 3 recently redesigned by Raymond Floyd or eat at Bennie's on the Beach overlooking the surf at Lake Worth Casino (the name is a holdover from the 1920's gambling heyday).

You are a 3 minute walk away from the town's main street, Lake Avenue which features a live playhouse, an independent movie house, many restaurants, bars and clubs. Enjoy consignment and antique shopping and the weekly Saturday Lake Worth Farmer's market!

But for relaxation, you do not need to go anywhere. Your lodge is in a private compound, quiet and tucked away from any traffic noise. You will share the communal garden with the other 2 apartments. Owned and restored by award-winning architect, Anne Fairfax, she bought the house in 2013 and with great love renovated it so she can share it with others. She has a property in Palm Beach but would rather live in Lake Worth. She says, " I think of Lake Worth as what Brooklyn is to NYC. Hip, creative, a bit rough at the edges."

Come alone or bring friends. Each of three lodges are approximately the same size, with the same amenities but with different color schemes.

What makes this apartment unique

Among the unique benefits of this historic property is that it has been completely renovated, but retains the charm of its original Mediterranean Revival style. The property's walkable proximity to vibrant downtown Lake Worth makes this an ideal getaway for those who want to ditch the car and get some sunshine while enjoying all the amenities of a small town.

Great tiny apartment for 2, close to the beach and downtown in quiet neighborhood.

  • 4 of 5

We loved the ability to walk/ride everywhere from the compact apartment. The courtyard is beautiful and has chickens roosting in the trees at night! It's a quick ride on (provided) bikes over the bridge to the public beach for sun, surfing, and swimming, and an easy walk up to the main strip for food, shopping, and grocery. The apt is small and functional at a reasonable price, but better for 2 people if you plan to spend a lot of time in the apt. Fold-out couch is basic but serviceable. The free laundry is a plus after a day at the beach. Really accommodating and helpful when we had questions or needs. A great place to unplug and relax for a long weekend!

Local options in walking distance: coffeeshop with open mic, oyster bars, bars with live music, lots of different cuisines, blues bar, farmer's market, art galleries, playhouse and movie theater, most major banks.

Owner's Response: Gosh, thank you for such a lovely review. I had aimed to provide just such an experience for my guests when I began this little venture, and you all really described it to a T! So glad that you "get" Lake Worth with its small town charm.

Loved J Street Lodge

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in apt 2 for the month of February 2018 and absolutely loved it. The apartment was a perfect size for the two of us and had everything we needed for a great stay. Nicely designed, a combination of a Mediterranean pied à terre in a Caribbean garden. We especially enjoyed being able to walk and ride our bikes everywhere. Lake Worth is an eclectic town with a nice mix of things to do. We never got tired of checking out all the sweet cottages that line the neighborhoods. The beach is less than two miles from J Street and it is beautiful! We went there every day. Also loved the street painting festival and the farmers market. We plan to return to Lake Worth for two months next year and would have booked same apartment gladly but the price increase put it out of our budget.

Great spot, quiet but close to downtown

  • 5 of 5

I was in Florida for two weeks on business and had a great stay. I was glad to find this place and not have to stay in a hotel. Very easy commute to Delray Beach for work. Beautiful courtyard/garden. Location was quiet but it was still a quick walk to downtown Lake Worth restaurants and shops. Kitchen has everything you need to cook your own meals and save money on eating out...but the restaurants nearby are great too. Clean, comfortable, and feels like home.

Cute, tidy, but dirty

  • 2 of 5

The property was nicely landscaped, had chickens roaming around and adequate parking. We only stayed 2 nights. The apartment was decorated nicely and seemed tidy at a glance. However, it was too dirty for my liking. Fan blades, bed head board, window sills and base boards were very dusty. There were glass rings on the night stands and place mats. The worst was the scum on the shower floor. Disgusting! The cleaning fee was unjustified.

I had an amazing time here. The Apt is beautiful with everything you need and owners are so nice. Nuego even helped me carry my very heavy suitcases up the steps. I feel like I am in the Mediterranean when I stay here. Truly a hidden jewel! I highly recommend this property. It's CHARMING!!!!
