Daymer Cottage, high on the cliffs, in a stunning location overlooking the sea, is a luxury,detached, family house, with uninterrupted sea & coastal views. Cliff top, garden terraces look out along the impressive N.T. coastline to Exmoor, with access to the Coastal Path & spectacular walks.

It is a house for all seasons, a comfortable & restful retreat. The spacious light interiors, have a contemporary coastal style. Deep sofas, log burning stove, extremely well equipped kitchen, utility room & bathrooms, make this an hospitable place to come together with friends or family.

There is wi-fi, Sky+ HD TV with DVD player, Bose docking station for iPods & CD player.

Large glass doors look out to sea & open onto the verandahs, sun deck, & outside dining area.

A warm house, with constant hot water, white cotton bed linen & fluffy towels. Parking area & short walk to beach.

Chef service, fresh meals delivered, is highly recommended by all our guests.

The garden and beyond:

Outside the house.

Terraces of decking and lawn stretch across to a dry stone wall and down to a white picket fence bordering the garden. Beyond is the cliff edge making a dramatic setting whether the waves are pounding or the sea is a becalmed 'pool'. It is completely safe within the garden boundaries.

The decked veranda which runs around the back and side of the house is a great place to relax,sun bathe or eat and to watch the stunning sunset come down over the sea.

It takes 5 mins to walk down to the local bay and there is a very pretty walk by the stream from the bay back up to the village pub and garden if a pit stop is required before climbing back up the hill!

As well as the cliff walks westwards to Bull Point, Morte Hoe and Woolacombe or east to the Torrs and Ilfracombe, there are paths through the wood.

Local Activities: Woolacombe Bay is perfect for those who want to surf or play on a beach. Miles of golden sand and designated one of the cleanest beaches in the EU, it has good facilities for children and surfers. The high cliffs and headlands along this coast are popular with rock climbers.

Exmoor National Park with its wild open spaces ,provides great walking, riding or cycling. There are also all the hidden villages with wonderful pubs to drink and eat in, as you explore the Park or bird/wildlife watch.

For golfers, there are the famous links courses, Royal North Devon and Saunton Sands, as well as the less demanding local courses and ranges.

There is sea fishing from Ilfracombe and some of the finest fly fishing rivers in the country around Barnstaple.

The mild climate is great for gardens grand and small from RHS Rosemoor to specialist nurseries.

Daymer Cottage

Our second visit to Daymer Cottage and it was superb - perfect for our two families. Stunning views. I would recommend this place to anyone. There are great walks on the doorstep and also a short drive away at Saunton, Woolacoombe, Croyde and Putsborough beaches. We really love this house.

Fantastic house and location

Long weekend with 3 other couples - weather not exceptional but this didn't affect our time here. Some great local walks and if you use Julia's services on the food front you will be delighted at very reasonable cost. The facilities in the house are everything you would expect; the decor is well thought out, lots of clean lines and no unnecessary clutter or over elaboration. The bathrooms function well with unlimited hot water and powerful showers. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a break in this wonderful part of the country.

GREAT PLACE FOR A GETAWAY FOR A LARGE PARTY :)

We needed a large property on the coast for three nights for a party of ten adults and this suited our needs perfectly. The coastline in this area is very dramatic and we enjoyed a lovely walk along the coastal path, and appreciated the beautiful sunsets. We used the house as a base for activities in both Ilfracombe and Woolacombe. The house itself is extremely well equipped, and definitely a home from home. The kitchen, dining area and living room are all very spacious. The provisions left in the fridge for our arrival were very much appreciated, as was the 'welcome supper' delivered to us on our first evening. Lasagna and salad with homemade focaccia still warm! Excellent meal. The booking was straight forward and any questions quickly replied to. Many thanks. :)

Dramatic views in unspoilt Lee Bay

The house is truly wonderful. You get the most dramatic views of the sea crashing into the cliffs and remarkable sunsets. The accommodation is brilliant, with fantastic facilities. Visit the amazing Grampus pub! Walk on the wonderful South West Coast Path. We'd love to come back.

A beautifully situated house on the coastal path

This a wonderfully situated house with spectacular views over the sea.The downstairs is spacious and ideal for a large party. We had evening meals provided and they were delicious and very good value. The house was clean and very well maintained. The walks from the house in both directions on the coastal path are beautiful. We would certainly recommend the property and hope to go back again.

Daymer Cottage in the September

We arrived, parked the car and were immediately impressed by the view out to sea and by the decked and lawned garden. We entered the house which was simply and elegantly and very comfortably furnished with a beach house fee. There was also an excellent welcome pack, eggs, bacon , bread, milk etc.

We were staying there as a family grouping of 10 for a wedding in the village. Daymer accommodated us easily and had the facilities for catering for a large group whether eating in or out.

A welcome tea/supper was provided by Julia Waghorn. It was just what we needed. She also did the catering for the wedding which was to a very high standard, well worth booking her for "take ins".

Very happy memories of the cottage and would recommend it to family and friends,

The house looks over Lee Bay and its charming village,which lies at the end of a winding Devon lane, in a coastal wooded valley, surrounded by the rugged landscape of North Devon. The bay has its own small beach, a joy for those who love to mess about in rock pools, searching for crabs, and shells. It is quite sheltered and safe for swimming and canoeing at low tide. Through the rocks is a beautiful sandy cove, perfect for picnics, with access by a wooden stairway to the coastal path above.

The surfing beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde are a 10 min drive away. Instruction/equipment can be arranged

The Tarka Trail lies at the head of the valley for miles of safe off-road cycling.

The house is a five minute walk from the village . It is adjacent to the North Devon Coastal Path, providing spectacular walking country in either direction from the house. There is a graveled parking bay which is well lit at night with easy access to the front door.

Other Activities: Trout fishing & sea fishing, rock climbing, sea kayaking, wildlife and bird watching

  • The main bathroom runs from the back to the front of the house with painted wooden boards on the floor and walls. There is a 'double' shower enclosure with power shower. There are two large washbowls set onto a wide counter. There is a ceramic bathtub. Toilet. Beach towels are under the counter. The two ensuite bathrooms are 'limestone' tiled and have heated towel rails. They have ceramic bath tubs with overhead showers. Toilets. The downstairs wet room, tiled in green slate, has an electric shower, washbasin and toilet. All the bathrooms have a good supply of white cotton towels in 3 sizes. They are centrally heated and the windows double glazed.

Bedroom 3 has twin beds and has a sea view across Lee Bay and the NT headlands beyond. Bedroom 4 has a 'pocket guest bed' which can be adjusted from a single divan to either a double or twin beds. It has a sea view across Lee Bay and to the NT headlands beyond. Bedroom 5, adjacent to the main bathroom, overlooks the herb garden and down across the Lee Valley. There is a double sofabed in the downstairs self-contained den,which has french doors onto the veranda. There is an adjacent wet room. All the windows are double glazed and all rooms are centrally heated. White cotton bedlinen provided. 4.5 tog summer/ 9 or 13.5 tog winter duvets. There is a travel cot available on request.

Notes:
The open plan living and eating area downstairs, opens out onto veranda through large glass doors. There are lounging chairs and tables on the terrace and a 'jetty' leads down to a lower decked platform, with bleached teak tables for outdoor eating and it looks across to the sea cliffs and the Torrs beyond. A large hatch opens from the kitchen into the eating area, where the 5 ft. square ash dining table has upholstered seating for 10 people. The living area has comfortable seating for ten people, arranged to maximize the views. There is a wood burning stove with logs and kindling. A TV/video and DVD player as well as stereo system sit under the book/DVD shelves. Telephone, BTpoint with broadband access provided. The den is set up as a quiet office space or granny/nanny annexe, with wet room. The utility room, has its own entrance, with washing machine, dryer and a drying cupboard. The cloakroom has hanging space, beach and ball games, badminton set and wellington boots.
