This is a Hawaiian style renovated house with an open living room/kitchen/dining area in the front (about 500 square feet), 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a large (240 square feet) covered porch (lanai) that is accessible from the main living room. The home offers a kitchen area with an electric range, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and sink with garbage disposal. There are also cabinets and drawers with utensils, pots and pans, dishes, cups and most of the things you will need. Also within the main area there is a dining table with 4 chairs, more chairs are available and can be moved from other areas. Further back in the front room is a sitting area with a garden view, furnished with a TV (Netflix and Amazon Prime is available), chairs and sofa. This area opens to the large covered lanai furnished with a table and some chairs. The side of the lanai offers an ocean view. Behind the house there is a well maintained fruit and vegetable garden. The gardener comes on Saturday and Sunday, and other days as needed. For sleeping there are two bedrooms. The first one has a California King size bed. The second bedroom has a queen size bed and an additional double size bed in the same room but on opposite ends. There is also a bathroom with a shower / tub. We try to provide and stock a supply of clean towels, beach towels, wash cloths , sheets, blankets as well as disposable supplies such as toilet paper, wipes, paper towels, hand and sink soap, laundry detergent, etc. It takes a lot of items to stock the whole house. There is also a grill and washing machine in the front outside area. These items are meant to be shared with the apartment rental in the front (vrbo listing number 465919) if there is anyone staying there at the time. Due to the higher elevation (970 feet above sea level) and the ventilation of the louvered windows the house generally doesn't get that hot except during the summer months and some in the fall. From November through April the temperature generally doesn't get above the 80's and at night it can even get a little chilly or mid 60's. Just be aware there is no air conditioning or heater but we have not needed them. There is a floor fan in the living room area in addition to the ceiling fans. TA-122-060-3904-01

About Rod Hall
My wife and I live in Fairbanks, Alaska. After visiting the Big Island numerous times over the years we purchased this old house and decided to start fixing it up. The house was built in 1972.
Rod Hall purchased this House in 2011
Why Rod Hall chose Kailua-Kona
This house is very conveniently located if you are staying in the Kona area or your trips start from Kona. When we visit the Island we spend most of our time in this area and make day or half day trips from here, getting back in time to go downtown for a dinner. I also feel that this house has about everything you will need for a vacation at a fair price. You can get to most shopping centers, restaurants and downtown Kailua-Kona in 5 to 10 minutes.
What makes this House unique
There is a lot of space in a relaxed neighborhood. This is meant to be a budget rental. It has the things you need but not necessarily luxury items. It provides a chance for a more authentic Hawaiian experience. You are not isolated by concrete walls, you may feel like you are living in a small Hawaiian community.

Absolutely loved it! Neighbors were wonderful too.
Loved the gardener and his wife, what precious people, loved everything about our stay.
Nice property close to Kona downtown and nice views from Lanai
The house is close to the downtown Kona with shopping and restaurants. The covered lanai has an ocean view and the house itself is nice. Being some 3 miles from the shore and uphill makes it cooler and more pleasant than the shore locations. The owner Rod responds quickly to messages. It worked great for us.
Our stay was wonderful!
Great affordable place to stay
This was a delightful home to stay close to Kona. The home was well equipped and comfortable. The owner, Rod, was quick to respond and very helpful. The location is a bit off putting at first- meaning the surrounding homes are a bit crowded together and some are super junked up...but don't let that get in the way of totally enjoying this home. It has a nice mostly private carport as well as a great back porch. The surrounding neighbors are all very nice. We really enjoyed our stay here!
Nice house. Close to Kona, but at a cooler altitude.
Nice house with a great covered porch. It would be ideal for a family since one bedroom has two beds. Plenty of room. In a nice working class neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay here.
Needs some work to upgrade the back yard. The gardner was working on the property.
The house was not fancy but adequate for our needs. We had a very enjoyable time.
(Street Address: 74-5148 Kialoa Place, Kailua Kona 96740). THIS IS THE MAIN HOUSE with PRIVATE sign on the door. Driving directions: From KOA Airport: Turn right towards Kona on Hwy 19. Go 6.9 miles and turn left on Palani / Hawaii Belt Rd. 1.7 miles, turn right on Palihiolo Rd. .1 mile and right on Kialoa Place 138 feet to green house on the right. Our rental property is located in one of the oldest (early 70's) subdivisions in Kailua-Kona with an elevation of 972 feet. It is the first subdivision you will reach driving up Palani Road above Kailua Town. It is close to an incredible amount of things that the Big Island has to offer. Here is a generalized breakdown of some attractions / activities and time it takes to get there from our place. Restaurants, Farmer's Market and Grocery/Retail shopping from 5 to 20 minutes one way. Closest Grocery is Safeway and Walmart 5 minutes. Costco about 15 to 20 minutes away. Beaches are Kamakahonu (King Kam) Beach (2.4 miles) 6 to 8 minutes straight south on Palani to King Kamehameha Hotel. Here there is swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, kayaking, paddling options. It's a really good choice when you need to hit the beach in a hurry from our place. Going North are numerous beaches, including the Old Airport Beach Park which offers beach and running/walking path in botanical setting, several beaches going north before you reach the famous Hapuna beach (40 minutes N ), near Mauna Kea beach (45 minutes N). Going South is Pier and Kailua town only 5 to 10 minutes away, White Sands on Alii drive is about 15 to 20 minutes, there are several other shoreline places here as well and a fantastic place to snorkel at Kahaluu Beach Park (20 to 25 minutes away). Further South are Captain Cook and Ho'okena Black Sand Beach Park and Two Step Beach for Snorkeling right next to the Hawaiian National Historical Park. Even though the distance is not that far allow for about an hour to these places further south due to traffic. These are only few of the many beaches and attractions within the area.
