Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in West Riverside - Charming Uptown Loft

Located Within Walking Distance To A Number Of Top New Orleans Restaurants.

This one bedroom, one bath loft is complete with a kitchenette - including a fridge, microwave, coffee pot, dishes and granite countertops. It is in the heart of Uptown New Orleans, one block from Magazine Street. It is within walking distance of two grocery stores (Rouse's and Whole Foods), and some of the city's top restaurants (Shaya, La Petite Grocery, etc.). The converted garage is cozy with new window a/c units and a space heater for those rare instances when you need one in New Orleans. The apartment is located at the back of the property, at the end of a driveway. The property is crammed with fruit trees - lime, satsuma, blueberries, fig, along with a few chickens and ducks in the backyard. As we have young children, we can help you out with a portable crib and other kid paraphernalia. The couch folds down into a double bed, and the sleeping loft is huge and can accommodate an additional air mattress (we have a twin you can borrow). Cozy for most, but if you are mobility-limited, the loft space could be a challenge. Check out my other listing on the same property if you are looking to rent a couple of spaces to accommodate a larger group.

You'll love the accessibility and walkability of the neighborhood. We are a 10-minute drive to the French Quarter and a 5-minute drive to Audubon Park. You can walk to some fantastic food places (La Boulangerie, Creole Creamery, Shaya, La Petite Grocery, McClure's Barbeque) and some great bars and music clubs (Dos Jefes, Le Bon Temps, Publiq House). If you are traveling with kids, you'll appreciate that there are two playgrounds within a few blocks of the apartment.

You'll have access to the apartment and the driveway used to access it. We have a playset in the yard, and if you have children, they are welcome to use the playset. This apartment is just behind our house, so we are available and accessible whenever you need. We're also happy to leave you completely to yourselves.

We are 8 short city blocks from the St. Charles streetcar line. The city bus line also runs along Magazine Street (1 block) and Tchoupitoulas Street (3 blocks). Close street parking is readily available.

Additional guests after the first two will be $10 per person, per night.

About Jacob Landry

I'm a native Louisianian and a New Orleans entrepreneur. Together we're a family of five making the most of this wonderful city.

Jacob Landry purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Jacob Landry chose Uptown

This property is a classic New Orleans double that has been modernized to include a cozy garage apartment. The property includes a number of fruit trees (fig, satsuma, lime, blueberries, etc.) and a small flock of chickens and ducks. Its a veritable urban farm.

What makes this cottage unique

The location can't be beat. You're within walking distance of classic New Orleans venues (Le Bon Temps, Creole Creamery), yet only a short time away from the French Quarter. Free street parking makes it even more convenient.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed our stay at Jacob's place! The little apartment was quaint and perfect for us for our three day stay. We were close to Magazine street, so the location (and Jacob's recommendations) encouraged us to get out and discover some new restaurants and provided us with awesome dining experiences. The apartment was well lit, cute, clean and provided us with a quiet place to recover from our adventures. We appreciated the genuine hospitality we were shown. It was a fun experience for us :)

Beautiful Loft In The Heart Of New Orleans!
average rating of 4.0 based on 4 reviews

Great location, private, good value, with a few quirks

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. This rental had a great location, was quiet and clean, private, and a good value. Easy interaction/responsiveness from the owner, with great neighborhood suggestions to get us started. All of our core needs were met.

A few quirks that caught us by surprise--

-There is not a formal place to unpack and hang clothing.

-Beware the bathroom door - it is on a slider w/out a regular handhold and resulted in a smashed hand between door and frame the first time used.

-Anyone with wrist or knee issues (I do) should be aware that you have to crawl to and from your bed each night. The stairway to the loft is hard to negotiate, and the loft ceiling is quite low.

That said, these were quirks, not dealbreakers. We slept well, had peaceful evenings and enjoyed our visit.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review! I've updated the description to note the potential mobility issues of the loft space. Sorry you didn't see the hangers and hanging bar in the wardrobe to the left of the TV. The drawers beneath the TV are also available to unpack and place clothing.
