I am a social worker and my husband, Richard is a business man. I grew up in the greater Boston area and attended college at B.U. and Suffolk Univ. I have lived in Newton since 1969 and love the convenience and safety that Newton affords. Newton is known as the Garden City and for good reason. There are many flowering trees and shrubs throughout the city--It is a truly beautiful place. It is also a place where you can walk and run safely. Lately many bicycle lanes have been added. All this and so close to Boston. It only takes 15 minutes to get to Boston via the Express Bus which stops just one block from the property.
Because Rte 90 and 95 run through Newton you can also travel by car to either the beaches or mountains for scenic day trips very easily.
Susan Mann purchased this apartment in 1970
I love Victorian architecture and when I saw this property I fell in love. Typical Queen Anne design with period details. Angles and nooks and crannies, high ceilings, large windows and the feeling of space---priceless!!!
location and convenience are the true benefits. You can enjoy all the comforts of home and be close to the Arts, Historic places, Universities and the Ocean.
Also, my husband has installed interior Sound Proof Windows on all the windows in the house making the inside space like a museum.
My mom and I stayed here and really enjoyed the comfortable accommodations in a very clean home. I like the no-shoes rule in the house. Fireplace was really nice and easy to use. One parking space and one bathroom would make it a little tough for a larger group, but the actual home is very spacious.
From ease of booking, information exchange, greeting on arrival and then Peter's introduction to the home itself, we were absolutely delighted with our stay at Susan's home. We were pinching ourselves for finding this gem and will return again on our fairly frequent trips to Boston. The home was built in 1890 and has been beautifully modernized while keeping the charm of the original style. High ceilings in each room, wooden floors, covered radiators, lights on dimmers, beautifully appointed kitchen, wrap around porches and a full sized bathroom that we didn't mind sharing. The furnishings and bedding were very comfortable and we truly felt we were guests in someone's home. I was glad to have met Susan in person and her personal attention to whatever else we might have needed was unexpected. This is a family home in a beautiful Newton neighborhood that has been lovingly extended to HomeAway. My family and I are very grateful for the opportunity to have stayed here.
The house looks exactly like the pictures listed....only better. Everything from the full kitchen to the porches to the comfortable beds more than exceeded our expectations. To top off the lovely home it was located in a historical area full of history with two exquisite churches and many other homes built in the 1850's. You must take a walk in the neighborhood and explore the well kept homes and visit those churches. Grocery stores were nearby along with restaurants. We were very pleased with the short and easy trip on the highway to the downtown area and Logan airport. The house is approximately 15-20 minutes away to any of the hot spots in Boston and right off the Mass Pike for convenience. Local drivers were available for fair prices as well. Overall, the house and Newton were simply wonderful and we are already planning to come back and visit family in the area. Why stay in the city when you can have this house to stay in? The owner made herself very available and was a joy to work with. If you are going to Boston, this is THE place to stay!
It's a cool old house converted into a condo. I wish the weather had been cooler, so we could have enjoyed the outdoor space a bit. Great kitchen that I would have used more if we had stayed longer.
Nice accommodations and plenty of room. A bonus was the collection of spices and oils that allowed us to do some creative cooking. The porch was a delight at the end of the day. A 5 Star for sure!
