Whether you're relaxing after a full day of skiing or fishing, or just need a break from city-shopping in Anchorage, you will find everything you need here to recharge before heading back out to your next Alaskan adventure! Conveniently located, this home provides guests a centralized place to rest, with all the comforts of home--including a gourmet kitchen, hot tub, and plenty of space for 10-12 guests.
We moved to Alaska for work, but decided to stay because we fell in love with its beauty. In the summers, we love to fish and hike, and winters are reserved for back-country snowboarding and cross-country skiing. We also enjoy traveling and have been slowly adding to our passport collection! But, after every trip, we are excited to get back to Alaska for rest and relaxation.
Owner/ Property Manager purchased this house in 2008
We bought this property because of its location: it's secluded, yet easily accessible by the main road system, and conveniently situated near Anchorage. If you want to feel the privacy of Alaska, without too much isolation, this home the place to be.
This home has an open floor plan, with huge windows in the living room overlooking the beautiful mountains of the South Fork Valley. The property sits on 4.5 acres, with a creek running alongside. If you open the windows at night, you can fall asleep to the comforting sounds of the creek.
We have fished, walked on a glacier, explored the zoo, and hiked up Hunter's Pass. Some of us traversed across the ridge (which was awesome!) while others visited the Nature Center. We had 18 family members together. We have laughed so much and enjoyed the scenery from this beautiful house. Alaska is fabulous!
There was an interesting episode with a moose at midnight one night. It had the most unusual moose call.
When it was time to finalize travel plans to my son's wedding, I knew I wanted to stay in a nice place to commemorate the occasion. After reading previous reviews and being familiar with the area, I knew this was the place for me and my family. Me, my daughter, my 89 year old mom, and 7 cousins were so comfortable, it didn't even seem like 10 people were in the house. The hot tub was a welcome treat after a long day of hiking and the well equipped gym was used by the more hard-core athletes in the family.
If there was one downside, it was emails from different sources that had conflicting information on how to access the house. However, after a few phone calls the issue was resolved in short order, including a call back from Mary herself.
For me, the best part was being able to host a family dinner for more out-of-state relatives attending the wedding and a post-wedding champagne brunch. It was great to be surrounded by family and all the beauty Alaska has to offer!
Mary, your home exceeded our expectations! We brought my parents, mother-in-law, youngest son and niece and nephew(ages 18 to 20) to Eagle River to see my other son and daughter-in-law. We planned on the kids staying with my son but there was so much room in your lovely home that everyone was able to stay together a few nights which was wonderful. When we walked into the house we were beyond excited at the large open layout of the kitchen and living room. The large windows gave a perfect mountain and wild flower view from all rooms in the house. The large gourmet kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances was out of this world and the laundry room offered Samsung appliances that were state of the art. Mary even has a Dyson vacuum cleaner. Mary has thought of everything. We liked her Chicago Cutlery set so much I just ordered a set today for our kitchen. There was plenty of room for 5 of us to help prepare dinner in the kitchen with plenty of counter space and a huge 6 burner counter top gas stove.
The master bedroom and bath are luxurious with a king size bed, large dresser and separate shower and large jetted whirlpool tub with double sinks and lots of counter/drawer space. Putting on make-up was so easy with the wonderful lighting. There is a heated ceiling lamp as you step out of the shower (2 wonderful shower heads) and lots of space for towels which are provided. She even provides beach towels to use in the large hot tub on the large wrap around deck, overlooking the Eagle River and mountains. The sound of the river is so soothing as you sit outside on the patio furniture and is a great way to start the day with a cup of coffee from the Keurig or standard Mr. Coffee pot.
There are 3 bedrooms on the main floor and a bunk bed with a double and single bed and crib down stairs off the TV room. The leather living room furniture was very comfy and the kids were so impressed with your wall hangings and lovely photography. The large garage was very clean and had any extras needed for the home, even an extra toilet.
Many things were provided for us in the pantry, refrigerator and bathrooms and we were very happy to leave our extra items that we did not use for the next visitors. The only things we could not find were dishwasher tablets, bath soap and a dish towels & tub to use in the large sink.
I would definitely recommend this home! Thanks Mary for your attention to detail and for helping our stay be so comfortable!
We were in Eagle River,Alaska for a family wedding and needed a spot to stay together. This house was very well equipped in the kitchen, theater room and outside hot tub. The highlight for us was being able to see and hear the river from the house deck. Mary was very attentive to our needs and made it very easy to find the house. We would definately stay here again on our next trip to Alaska.
What a great place to stay! Really peaceful area. We spent quite a bit of time just relaxing on the large deck listening to the quiet valley and the beautiful south fork river just down the hill below us. We were also close enough to everything we wanted to do: anything you would need is in Eagle River (15 min) Anchorage is only another 10 min, Eagle River Nature Center (beautiful, camped out in yurt), Eklutna lake (beautiful, kayaking, hiking)
House itself was super nice...big, clean, well appointed.
Thanks for our stay Mary!
Wow! The inherent beauty of Alaska is encompassed in this rental property. Thank you for the excellent stay and the wonderful recommendations for what to do in the area. It is truly a spectacular location and house!
This house is secluded, yet only a 20 minute drive to downtown Anchorage for shopping and entertainment.
