With WiFi and Cable to stay connected, countless outdoor adventures, and peaceful sunrises over the lake, it can be as action-packed or relaxing as you make it.
Amazingly ideal for groups of all sizes - feeling cozy for 2 guests yet spacious for 24 guests due to the clever floor plan. The layout offers everything a couple needs on the main level including the Master Suite, Great Room, laundry room and expansive views of the lake.
For large groups and multi-family gatherings, there is no other single-unit vacation option in the Bemidji area able to sleep 24, making it the best option for togetherness! It is spacious enough for everyone to spread out and feel comfortable with 4 indoor sitting areas, 2 large TVs, a game table, and plenty more seating outdoors on both the covered porch and a large patio. The 5 large bedrooms have beds for 16, and the 4-room bonus room area can accommodate 8 more! 2 of the 4 bathrooms have double vanity sinks, separate toilet rooms and plenty of space for multiple people getting ready at the same time. The Great Room is a perfect gathering space that can easily accommodate everyone at the same time. The large kitchen allows for many people to prepare food at the same time or just hang out with the chef while they work their magic! The custom cabinetry, spacious granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, dual sinks, beverage fridge, induction cooktop, central island and vast views of the lake and outdoor activity make it a joy being in this gorgeous space. The large dining table seats 8-10 with direct views of the lake. Plus the kitchen island seats 4-6, allowing 16 people to eat in the same room at the same time. Additionally, the patio seats 6-10 more! The living room has floor-to-ceiling windows for unobstructed views of the lake, beautiful coffered ceilings, a cozy contemporary gas fireplace in a gorgeous wall of built-ins, a comfy sectional sofa, and a large TV that can be easily watched from all parts of the Great Room, all the way back to the cooktop!
The outdoor space is also very accommodating with beautiful landscaping, a paved driveway, and paver sidewalks. There is also a covered porch and large patio furnished with a gas grill, gas fire pit, and patio furniture. The yard is level to the lake (meaning there are no stairs or hills to have to climb!) making it easy to feel connected to both those in the house and those at the dock. The flat yard also allows for easy set-up of various yard games or banquet tables. There is heated garage parking for 3 vehicles (wonderful in the winter!), with room for at least 5 more vehicles on the driveway. Additionally, there is a swingset and pedal boat available onsite for your enjoyment.
LAKE BEMIDJI: Lake Bemidji has so much to offer, more than enough to captivate all interests! Being able to rent equipment for lake activity right at the shoreline makes being able to use the lake in a variety of ways very convenient. Rental options include fishing boats, speed boats and pontoons, as well as jet-skis, sailboats, kayaks, and paddle boards in the summer, and cross-country skis and snowshoes in the winter. Just a few miles away, you are able to rent snowmobiles and ice houses. But renting equipment is not a requirement... the great thing about The Lake Place is that Lake Bemidji is an extension of the backyard and can be enjoyed right from the property with swimming and pedal boating off the private beach and fishing off the dock! However, if you do bring or rent a boat, there's always plenty of options for a good fishing or waterskiing spot. Plus, "dock-hopping" can be an all-day event with numerous options of places to dock for dining and entertainment, and "lake-hopping" is another great way to spend a summer day! In the winter, if you're not out fishing, driving on the lake through the village of plowed "roads" and "neighborhoods" of ice houses is an experience in itself. Watching the 4th of July fireworks from your boat, participating in fishing tournament, and taking the Polar Plunge are a few more unique ways to take advantage of Lake Bemidji.
FISHING LAKE BEMIDJI: Lake Bemidji is well known for excellent fishing of muskie, walleye, northern pike, and panfish (yellow perch, crappie and pumpkinseeds). Most of these have been caught right from the dock, providing hours of entertainment! For serious fishermen, several fishing guides are available in the area to help you get that trophy fish! In the winter, some of the permanent ice houses that make up part of the "ice house village" straight out from the house are able to be rented.
BOATING LAKE BEMIDJI: It is fun to boat to different places right on Lake Bemidji such as restaurants, the touristy downtown Waterfront, Lake Bemidji State Park, and the Country Club. You simply arrive and dock your boat until you're ready to leave the destination. You can also motor boat, kayak or canoe to 2 different connected lakes (Lake Irving and Stump Lake) by hopping on the Mississippi River!
AREA ATTRACTIONS: If you wish to take in the area's attractions, there are countless things to see and do locally that I have described in great detail further under the "location" tab, but to mention a few here... Paul Bunyan & Babe the Blue Ox in downtown Bemidji is hailed as the 2nd-most photographed statue in the country! Plus, the Mississippi River headwaters is just 25 miles away at Itasca State Park, the Sanford Center brings in great entertainment and Bemidji's Downtown is filled with things to see and do. If your desire is for outdoor adventure, you will certainly find your match, and The Lake Place would be a refreshing place to end the day!
If getting outdoors is limited by weather, there is plenty to do within the house itself! Get cozy with a blanket and a good book by the fireplace, or watch a favorite TV episode or movie. Play a game of cards or a board game, or challenge each other to a game of foosball. Take advantage of the beautiful kitchen and create a gourmet treat, or dim the lights and relax in the master bathroom's air tub! If that's not enough, there are several local options for indoor fun.
As a bonus, wheelchairs can easily navigate through the main level and outdoor space of the property due to the 36" doors and lack of stairs. With level access to the patio and flat yard, a wheelchair can even get out to the dock!
CRAFTING RETREATS: If you are seeking a place to set up retreats for scrapbooking or quilting or other crafting, the large bonus room would comfortably accommodates 12-16 crafters, but (depending on your retreat needs) because the house accommodates up to 24 guests, it may be possible for up to 24 crafters to join the group! The large dormers in the bonus room bring in ample natural light to help perfect those fine details. Then, when you want or need a break from creating, there are plenty of options for how to spend your non-crafting time while at The Lake Place.
Plus, arrangements can be made for retreats other than crafting, such as book clubs, church groups, or small business conferences. Please contact me with inquiries on specifics about booking a retreat at The Lake Place.
Raised in Bemidji, MN, myself, I began raising my four children in Bemidji. All was going well until job advancements took my family to another state, causing my family and me to part with beautiful Bemidji and The Lake Place. We miss Bemidji and the endless year-round beauty and events, but we really miss The Lake Place's gorgeous setting and infinite mix of fun and relaxation that can be packed into one spot.
I love to travel (and work at great lengths hoping to give my kids the travel bug). When I travel with my family, we frequently stay at vacation rental homes rather than a hotel, as I have found it provides for a much more enjoyable trip with the comfort and conveniences of a home away from home. I have decided to open up our vacation home to others, knowing that when I travel, I look at vacation rental homes as my first choice of lodging! I also truly love the house, the location, and the notion that it is perfect for everyone! I want others to be able to experience and enjoy everything I have come to love about The Lake Place.
Since I no longer live in the area, I have a local assistant property manager who is available for acquiring keys and help with anything that you may need during your stay. Plus, I am easily reached by phone, text, or email before and during your stay.
Julie purchased this house in 2010
Once our primary residence, The Lake Place is now my family's vacation home where we come back to visit and indulge in the beauty, restfulness, and perfect retreat at this lovely home on Lake Bemidji.
We decided on this house for our family when we thought it would be our "forever" home. Besides being on the desirable west side of Lake Bemidji nestled in a 1.2 acre mostly private semi-wooded setting, we loved that it was in a safe, quiet neighborhood just minutes from town. We loved that the landscape of the property and layout of the home itself was beautiful and accommodating to all ages and all stages. We loved that the new construction provided modern amenities and decor, as well as city sewer and water and natural gas. We loved that the house felt cozy enough for two but spacious enough for large gatherings and entertaining. Plus, we loved that whether in the house or enjoying the outdoors, seeing the neighbors was extremely rare, making it feel very secluded.
Once the home became ours, I knew immediately that it was perfect. I love watching my kids, as well as my parents, enjoy this lake and the home as much as my husband and myself. I love that within minutes I can buy more bait for my son who fishes off the dock for hours, or make a quick run for groceries, or easily get to an event. I love that there is plenty of wildlife to watch and enjoy right from the property, including Bald Eagles, Loons, Ospreys, Great Blue Herons, geese, ducks, and swans, as well as white tail deer, fox, mink and black squirrels. And I love that the lot is flat with no hills or stairs to navigate, and that there is also plenty of flat space in front and in back for setting up a soccer game, badminton net, bocci ball, or croquet along with a flat, paved driveway.
With The Lake Place's prime location, you have access to anything and everything that you could possibly want or need to make this a perfect getaway. It is close to town and all the tourism, attractions and entertainment the city has to offer. But being nestled in a private lot, combined with the amenities of the home, you could chose to arrive and never leave. And unlike many lake homes in the area, the mosquitos and ticks are few and far between (a real bonus!).
Lake Bemidji is truly an extension of The Lake Place, and the lake offers things that can't be found on other lakes. We enjoy taking a cruise around the lake and boating down the Mississippi River, especially in the early summer when the wildlife babies are easy to find, boating to different dock-n-go destinations on the lake, waterskiing and tubing, and of course fishing for muskie, walleye, northern pike and pan fish. Watching the fireworks display by boat is the best way to take in the 4th of July tradition! In the winter, we use the lake just as much with snowmobile rides, ice fishing, skating and beauty, all right from the backyard!
The house itself lends itself to easy entertaining of large or small groups, both indoors and outdoors, all year round. We have had countless birthday parties, holiday gatherings and friends-inviting-friends events at all times of the year. We even had a Baptismal ceremony in the backyard! Whether it's been just my crew of six or a large group, it has never felt too big or too small, and everyone has always had something enjoyable to do!
We went there for a company retreat with 11 people and there was more than enough space for everyone. The house was amazing! The house it's self was gorgeous, the outside was great. The view was spectacular. It was great to be able to go there and just unpack your food and everything else was provided. Julie also provided a number to have the local grocery store come and deliver the food if you wanted them too. Julie was always great at answering all of our questions right away when we had them. I would highly recommend this place. Everyone had a great time on the trip and we would go back next year if it's available.
My family rented this home for our annual summer vacation. With eleven adults and seven kids it is difficult to find a place to accommodate everyone. The Lake Place had more than enough room for all of us and space for the kids to play. The location can't be beat...right on the lake but also in town and close to all of the areas attractions. The house was very clean and well cared for and had everything we needed. This is the best place we have stayed!
The Lakeplace is a beautiful home, spacious and comfortable.
We had 3 families here, totaling 17 people, together for a week.
There were a number of separate spaces people could use, inside and outside, to be alone or to gather with others. Plenty of seating throughout.
The bathrooms were well-stocked with all necessities.
Use of the state of the art washing machine and dryer was very convenient, especially for swim suits and beach towels.
There were a few things that we ran across that could be improved upon:
- At least one of the bedrooms didn't have window shades or drapes, which proved unacceptable for a couple of folks who needed a dark room to sleep. The large, empty space over the garage would have been great for additional sleeping space with the inflateable mattresses, however, without window coverings, we couldn't use it for sleeping.
- The dock was insufficient for the wave runners we rented. There were no rubber bouys or bumpers to keep them tied to the dock, so we had to trailer them every night to keep them from getting scratched up or dented. We ended up purchasing our own bouys after we scratched up one wave runner at the end of the dock.
- The kitchen could have been better stocked with utensils and larger serving dishes, platters, and serving spoons for larger groups eating family style. There were, however, plenty of dishes, cups, bowls and silverware provided.
- It would have been nice to have had a pool table or ping pong table for the adults.
Over all our families spent an awesome week together, enjoying a relaxed time away from our every day work lives.
We loved the property, there was enough room for all 20 of us to be comfortable with space to spare. the wide hallways and extra room everywhere made the whole stay wonderful. Everything in the kitchen worked (we all love to cook and eat so this was huge for us).! We experienced two storms during our stay and were without power for several hours, Renay (sp?) came over to see how we were, which was very nice. The kids couldn't play at the beach or much in the back yard because of downed branches etc. but the public beach just down the road proved to be a great place to spend the day! We had a great family vacation and would recommend this house to anyone looking for a comfortable and luxurious home away from home vacation! My husband especially appreciated the 1st class millwork and cabinetry in the house. The only downside was the small beach, but that didn't stop our kids from enjoying the water and the public beach was just minutes away.
We had 19 adults and 2 children for our family vacation this year. There was a bed for everyone! Julie is very quick to make sure things are just the way you need them. The home is absolutely beautiful and impeccably clean! The kitchen is fully stocked-from a whisk to two different sized crock pots and 3 different sets of dishes (one for the patio!) The beach area was small but perfect for our littles and the dock and boat lift were perfect for the boats we brought! The lot is flat and beautifully landscaped. The fire pit and grill work perfectly! We loved that we could all fit together in the kitchen/dining area for meals. We also loved that everything you needed as far as shopping etc was very close! This is a must rent! Thank you Julie! We absolutely loved it and will return for sure!
The Lake Place is a private home on Lake Bemidji in a pristine location just minutes away from anything you may want or need during your stay.
The property can be a destination in itself, nestled in a quiet semi-wooded neighborhood on a fairly secluded lake lot, where you may never find the need to venture any further, except maybe to launch your boat or rent boats, bikes or snowmobiles to make your retreatful stay more complete. Otherwise, there is endless year-round tourism, attractions, shopping and entertainment in the area for you to take advantage of, most of which can be accessed within just minutes.
Launching your boat can be done just a mile away at Cameron Park or Diamond Point Park. Both city parks also have a public beach, playground and picnic area. Boats and other equipment rentals (fishing boat, ski boat, sail boat, canoe, kayak, pontoon, wave runner, bikes, water skis, x-country skis, snowshoes) are available at Diamond Point Park, Lake Bemidji State Park, or Ruttger's Resort, all of which are right on Lake Bemidji! Fishing equipment, fish houses, snowmobiles and camping equipment can also be rented nearby. Ruttger's offers refueling of the boat right on the lake.
Downtown is just 3 miles away, with Lake Bemidji's Waterfront hosting the famous statues of legendary Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox (note: this is hailed as the 2nd most photographed statue in the country!). The Waterfront has a welcoming touristy area with an information center, souvenir shops, bike rentals and Big River Scoop ice cream parlor. Plus, don't miss the downtown boutique and antique shopping, Chocolates Plus candy store, or live theater at the Paul Bunyan Playhouse (summer). Many festivals take place year-round at the Waterfront including the Water Carnival the week of July 4th, Art in the Park later in July, Dragon Boat Festival in August, Night We Light Festival the day after Thanksgiving, and Winterfest in February.
The Sanford Center, just 4 miles away, is Northern Minnesota's premier venue for conventions and events with a 4700-seat arena. It is home of the popular BSU college Hockey games and offers events year-round.
There are numerous restaurants within 5 miles of the house including popular chains like Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebee's, Perkins and Country Kitchen, or fine dining at Sparkling Waters, Tutto Benne, and Peppercorn, or downtown favorites like Keg'N'Cork, Brigid's Pub (live music), Bar 209, Minnesota Nice Cafe and Raphael's Bakery. Some restaurants can be accessed by boat right from the house, including Green Mill, Garden Court Grill at Ruttger's, and the Country Club's North Shore Grille, all of which have free docking once you arrive. There are also several coffee shops nearby including Wild Hare and The Cabin downtown. The house is lucky enough to be on pizza delivery routes from any of the chains and the local favorites of Keith's Pizza, Dave's Pizza or Giovanni's Pizza.
Essentials are all within 3 miles, with groceries at Lueken's Foods or Marketplace Foods, major shopping at Target, Walmart, and the Paul Bunyan Mall, and medical services at Sanford Health's urgent care/ER.
Great fishing is on Lake Bemidji, and golfing is just down the road 4 miles at Bemidji's Town and Country Club and 10 miles north at Castle Highlands Golf Course. Buena Vista Ski area is 15 minutes away and offers downhill and x-country skiing, a terrain park, and a tubing park during winter plus covered wagon tours in summer and fall. The house is located directly on the routes of Loop the Lake (a 17-mile bike ride around Lake Bemidji) and the Blue Ox Marathon (October). Lake Bemidji State Park is just 5 miles away for hiking or bird watching, and is the start of the 115-mile Paul Bunyan Trail which is part of the longest continuous paved rail trail in the country used for biking, running, walking and snowmobiling. The Movil Maze trail system is just minutes away and has a variety of mountain biking trails. Groomed x-country ski trails are at the State Park, Movil Maze and several other nearby locations. Access to the state's 14,000 miles of groomed snowmobile trails is right from the back yard by going across the lake to the State Park. Ice skating can happen on the lake right from the backyard or at the City Arena's indoor and outdoor rinks just 3 miles away. As long as you hold a license, hunting deer or birds is easily accessed just 5 miles away at the State Park, or within 30 miles at Paul Bunyan State Forest or Chippewa National Forest.
Don't miss the iconic Headwaters of the Mississippi River at Itasca State Park just 25 minutes away. Strawberry picking at Mystic Berry Farms isn't far, two major Casinos are also just a short drive, as are scenic by-ways.
If weather warrants being indoors, there is plenty to keep you entertained right at The Lake Place. Or, turn to nearby Bemidji Bowl, BSU's Rec Center, Bemidji Theater, Glazed & Amused pottery, or Headwaters Science Center.
