Flawless

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently spent 9 days at the cottage. We wanted somewhere to disconnect from city life, read, take walks and sleep-in undisturbed. Although the very sweet owners live close by, they greeted us upon arrival then we didn't see them until we left. My wife is a professor of Interior Architecture and was very impressed with the how well the cottage is done for being such an old property. We usually take a holiday in the south of France, but didn't want to travel so far from LA this year. It felt more like a English country side cottage because of the landscape, but this stay left us as rested and refreshed as France does. The property is a short few minutes drive to the towns of Stockton, Frenchtown and Lambertville/New Hope.

Idylic and comfortable cottage for history-and-nature-lovers

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a week-long stay at the cottage this past June. First, the pictures (while good) really don't do the place and the overall setting justice. We loved the two lofts in this high-ceilinged thick-walled stone cottage. The bedroom, which has a comfortable mattress and nice lighting and bedding, is in one loft, with a sitting room that looks out to the thoughtfully landscaped backyard and a lovely little chicken coop and sitting area. (The roosters do crow in the morning, but we liked that, and had no trouble going back to sleep). The other loft has another smaller sitting area, and if you go when its not too cold or hot, you must open the doors to the balcony and relax and read or just rest in the rocking chairs. The main room is comfortably furnished and has a wood stove and a TV, and while the kitchen is on the small side it is well equipped. We enjoyed coffee and breakfast on the side of the cottage in the mornings, with a view to a part of the farm that looks like an arboretum. We ate in most evenings and sat outside in the back yard or the area just above because it was a nicer setting than even many of the pretty restaurants in the area. Sunsets were beautiful and we were lucky to have several clear nights where we could watch the stars come out.

The farm itself is large, and you are welcomed to walk around the grounds, which I recommend. We especially liked the upper grounds at sunset, which also has a big flower garden. The owners are very friendly and helpful yet quiet and respectful of your privacy. The main house and other outbuildings are all equally historic, and beautifully sited, not too close to the cottage, yet close enough that you don't feel completely isolated.

Its really a treat to stay in such a pretty cottage on a real farm. We have stayed in a lot of VRBO, Homeaway and AirbnB cabins, houses, apartments and cottages over the years, and while I feel successful finding places that are unique and have personality, this is one the top ones without a doubt. We could have stayed much longer and would definitely like to return. The only downside is that it takes a little time to figure out all the switches and how open the windows safely and so on - and the frig isn't directly in the kitchen - but this is a very old property that has been nicely refurbished - so its well worth having some patience about these minor things. All-in-all a great place to refresh and reflect and enjoy the beauty and history.

A Wonderful Experience!

  • 5 of 5

The Stone Cottage was charming and comfortable and our hosts could not have been more welcoming and gracious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the farm, and found it very conveniently located for all of the area's activities. We plan to come back again in the spring and at Xmas next year.

The resident chickens and roosters just added to the fun!

Nestled among tall redwood trees and giant junipers, the historic, stone cottage is the perfect, peaceful getaway! One of the original structures dating back to the 1700's, the cottage is one of the most unique stone buildings on the farm. Conveniently located 4.5 miles North of the picturesque river towns of New Hope, PA and Lambertville, NJ, you can escape into the countryside, but easily enjoy a night on the town! New Hope and Lambertville both offer a unique variety of restaurants, bars, antique shops, art galleries, live music and live theater. The Delaware River provides the scenic backdrop to the many quaint river towns where the old stone homes, mills and canal trails paint the unique history of the area. Take a trip north along the river you will pass through the historic towns of Lumberville and Point Pleasant where you will find river front dining, a winery, and tubing and boat rentals. 15 miles north along River Road (Route 32) you can cross into Frenchtown, NJ. There you will find more delicious restaurants (The Lovin Oven), local artists shops, and a vibrant community.

The farm is 1 hour North of Philadelphia and an 1.5 South of New York City.
