This adobe is a great place to spend your time in Marfa. In a town where nothing is more than a 10 minute walk away from everything else, this house is very conveniently located a few blocks from all the restaurants, coffee shops and bars in downtown Marfa. It's been lovingly refurbished by the owners over the years as a place to escape to from the hassle and stress of real life.
There are two futon couches and a couch with a pullout bed that each can accommodate 2 people, and there's a regular sofa where you can put one more person. The fully functioning kitchen has a gas 4 burner stove and oven, microwave and refrigerator, as well as a full complement of cooking utensils, pots, pans, skillets, and baking sheets. There's no dishwasher, but there's a nice big sink.
If you are there during the summer months, the house does stay pretty cool during the day, but there are also portable A/C units just in case it gets warm. And if you're there during the winter, there are several gas heaters to keep you comfortable.
The house is fully stocked with towels, linens and blankets, so no need to bring any of that.
We have a washing machine, but only the washing machine. The dryer is on the way. That being said, there is a laundromat just a few blocks away.
There's no TV, and currently we don't have wifi set up in the house, so bring a book. There is wifi down at Frama (the local coffee shop) as well as most of the other bars and restaurants in town, in case you need to get your fix. And there's really good cell phone reception for most carriers, so you're never really out of touch unless you choose to be.
The interior layout is a little funky in that there's a big living room, a kitchen, and in between them is a room that serves the function of being a lounge/dining room/bar/reading room/guest room. There's no real bedroom in the house, but you barely notice it.
If you like sitting on screened in patios and sipping wine while watching the sun go down, then we've got you covered. If you get cold, feel free to start a fire in the wood burning stove that we have out there.
As far as finding the house when you come into town, it's at the corner of Lincoln and Neville Sts. Both the city of Marfa and Google Maps are confused as to what the exact address is, so we have jokingly put the house number as "211 or 216". All you need to know to find it is, it's the only house in Marfa painted in a deep pink with blue trim and a gigantic cedar tree by the front door. It's been called "The Watermelon House", and once you see it, you'll know why.
Hello there. My name is Daniel and thanks for checking out the Watermelon House. In all honesty, I didn't name it that. Like all good nicknames, it was given to us because of the pinkish color of the paint job. And I didn't pick the color. Ok, here's the story. My parents purchased this house back in 2003 after visiting Marfa and falling for the place. Over the years they've used it as a vacation and getaway house, and have spent that time slowly refurbishing and rehabilitating the old adobe to get it to the nice and cozy state it's in today.

There were 6 of us girls staying in the house for the weekend. We all slept comfortably on the futons and pull out couch. The kitchen was well stocked, which was great as we cooked many of our meals. We especially loved sitting on the porch around the wood fire stove drinking wine into the night. I would definitely stay here again.
I booked this location for weekend as a base camp for adventures in Big Bend. The house was well kept and served us well. We used the kitchen to cook for the group several times and thoroughly enjoyed spending time on the screened in patio. Marfa itself is also worth visiting. The house is easily within walking distance of anything you want to do in the town. If you need anything at all, Dawn is very accommodating.
This was the perfect location for our family Spring Break trip to Marfa! We could walk to many restaurants! The home was very clean and had everything we needed. The manager, Dawn, was very helpful in communicating places to eat on certain days when not a lot was open.
Even though the home doesn't have any traditional bedrooms, it felt private enough with the design of the layout. My favorite part of the home, aside from the terrific location, was the screened-in patio. We spent the evenings there playing games, enjoying the peace, wine, and sunset.
We would definitely stay at this charming home again.
thank you sooooo much! we had a wonderful time. the house was lovely and we used the porch woodstove so much. the sunny backyard was a perfect spot to sit and relax. excellent water pressure in the shower!! many thanks from NC.

Thanks for booking with us! Your point person in Marfa is going to be Dawn. She's the best. She's also our eyes and ears out in Marfa and really looks after our property and our guests for us when we aren't there. She'll meet you at the house and get you all settle in, and then she'll be there when you leave to see how you left the place. If there's any damage or a mess that goes beyond the bounds of normal use, be sure to let her know before you check out. Her word is final when it comes to returning security and cleaning deposits, so check with her before you go.
Dawn is also an amazing personal chef, who you can book to come over and create amazing culinary experiences for you, and makes one hell of a pink jalapeno margarita. Be sure to ask her about all of that.
Thanks again for booking with us. We hope you enjoy it, and please be sure to let us know if we can make any improvements.
