About Michelle and Shannon Lackey

My husband and I purchased 12 acres of land in 2013 surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Nantahala National Forest. Little did we know (for the thick pine saplings) that we had a Million Dollar View of a Horseshoe Bend on Fontana Lake and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! It took viewing Google Maps to see what a gem we had found. We moved to Bryson City after selling our home and printing business in Fletcher NC (close to Asheville). My husband grew up in Bryson City, and I fell in love with this "Gateway to the Smokies" town when we built a house boat at Almond Boat Park in 2013, that now floats on Fontana Lake. We started building Eagle's Nest soon after starting the build of Eagle's Landing (our first completed cabin) in Nov 2014 with the help of some great friends and a very talented builder. This is a completely different lifestyle than we're used to, and we are incredibly Grateful for all the Love, Support, and Divine Miracles that We have been Blessed with along the way. Now we're ready to share Eagle's Nest with the world!

Michelle and Shannon Lackey purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Michelle and Shannon Lackey chose Bryson City Area

There's a Peace here that we've never felt before. This place is awe - inspiring. It almost forces you to stop in your tracks every time you look outside. We built Eagle's Nest to give our guests the feeling they were floating on water...and sometimes in clouds. From the Living Room and both Bedrooms there are French Doors that open out onto a 728 sq ft (partially covered) deck that extends out over top of Fontana Lake. From the theatrical morning sunrise to the day's last light, the show this magical place performs is ever changing and always jaw dropping.

What makes this cabin unique

We designed and built 'Eagle's Nest' to accommodate anyone. This cabin is ♿️ wheelchair accessible with a sidewalk and wheelchair ramp. The large master bedroom and master bathroom include enough space to turn a wheelchair within a 5 foot radius. Without much extra time and materials, we've tried to create a thoughtful home, keeping everyone in mind.

We call this cabin Eagle's Nest because Bald Eagles are always near by the cabin. They can be seen flying close to the cabin's deck, playing in the air at eye level, and even diving into the lake after a fish. This is an unforgettable experience.

If your doubting the travel time or the expense, DON'T!!! This place was absolutely breathtaking!!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, where to start! Scenery hands down the most beautiful, breath taking, spiritual lovely place we've ever seen. I loved and appreciated every little "special touch" in the house from the artwork to the custom made and painted cabinets. We had about 25 bear sightings down on the bend. Glad we brought a telescope!!! So much fun watching the momma bears teach their cubs to fish. Also saw several bald eagles. Having an endless amount of firewood was a nice touch. Couldn't get enough of the view from angle on the property!!!! Owners were on point if you needed anything. Very private. Treat yourself and make a reservation to the eagles nest!!! You will be glad you did. Thank you Michelle and Shannon!!!

Amazing view from the deck of a clean, well-maintained cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Our little family of three absolutely loved staying at the Eagle's Nest. It was perfect for us: a sweet time of relaxation and great basecamp for exploring the National Park. The cabin was the cleanest we'd ever stayed in, and Shannon and Michele were very accommodating. The cabin makes great use of its space and definitely feels bigger than it's 1000 square feet. It was perfect for the three of us. It can sleep more, but there's no dinner table, so if you want to gather around a table with lots of folks, keep that in mind.

Stunning View for Labor Day

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a fabulous time over Labor Day weekend! We just kept taking pictures of the same view, but it is difficult to truly capture all of the ever-changing landscape of this stunning view. Our 5 year old enjoyed throwing football in the driveway and watching the friendly black cat come around and our 16 month old enjoyed going up and down the handicap accessible ramp:) We saw 3 bald eagles flying around our first day there before we could even get unpacked. It is definitely quiet and peaceful, which makes it easy to tell when a boat is approaching the bend in the river. We took a train ride, played putt-putt, drove through the Great Smoky Mountains (where we saw a huge Elk), and enjoyed multiple meals on the front porch. We would definitely recommend this modern decorated cabin if you are interested.

Spectacular view from this fabulous cabin. Well appointed and extremely comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

The is a special find. The cabin in situated in an impossibly spectacular location with breath taking views that memorize all day long. Quiet, private, comfortable cabin with attention to detail befitting a 5 star hotel. Owner is very attentive and responsive. Couldn't have been more impressed.

Be aware that there are two other cabins on the same site, but tastefully positioned and separated. Also, the remote location precludes fast internet access. Don't plan on downloading movies while there.

The place was spotlessly clean, and well maintained. The beds were comfortable. The hosts are attentive without being invasive, and they do a great job with local recommendations! We look forward to another visit!
